      Music and Noises

I've had a lot of dreams in which I can remember certain things that people have said, but it's weird, and when I wake up, I can only remember that they did say them, not the actual act of them saying anything, or even the act of their mouth moving. It's more like telepathy, rather than talking...

There's also the problem of music. And this one's really a problem, I've been wondering about it for, like 5 years, long before I heard about lucid dreaming. Anyway, I cannot and have not ever heard music in my dreams. I find this almost disturbing. I've been playing the piano since I was 4, and since then, I've added ukulele, upright bass, electric bass, guitar, and cello to my repetiore. I'm very musical, and I love music too. I spend hours on some days just playing. But why can't I ever hear it in my dreams? It's just maddening.

What I'm wondering is if, during a lucid dream, I'll be able see people talking, and if I'll be able to even just hear music, not even play it. Thanks.
      Don't ask.

Yes, it is very possible and likely that, if you want to play and hear music in your lucid dream you will be able to do this.

About the telepathy thing: Yes, this is very common, but why do you think it matters? The whole point of dreams is that you are free of the boundaries of having to use mouthes, having to listen to voices. In a lucid you could transform the telepathic information into a voice or just try to hear the voice. But for me it doesn't really matter. Rarely do I have a clear memory of an actual consistent voice speaking to me in a dream.

This also has to do with your brain: Creating realistic human voices is not at all an easy thing to do. And this is espeically true for female voices. Some months ago scientists found out that this is indeed the reason for why most shizophrenics hear only male voices.
In a lucid dream, the realism is a lot higher though. It should be easily possible to make people talk in real language with their voice.

About the music thing. I would very well guess that you could make yourself/your unconsciouss produce a musical dream. You could meditate on it or use autosuggestion, expectancy or send a wish to your unconscious. If you and your soubconscious are good partners you should be able to influence your unlucid dream content to a certain limited degree.
Music in dreams is definately awesome. I have musical dreams every once in a while in which I play various instruments like drums or piano which I got no skill in. In real life I'm a guitarist. In a dream you can play any instrument you want perfectly or can even make up your own instruments and sounds (in a lucid that is). Best dream so far (nonlucid) was a big jam in a a huge hall with me as guitar, and I just conjured huge ass amps and it started. You don't have to think about anything, the best music will just come out of your dream soul and will directly manifestate itself in audible ways in the dream. Music in dreams is really the most astonishing thing for me.

Wow, that's interesting. I think I'll look up stuff on voice patterns now.

Ooh... that's nice. My main thought on this was that I might be able to practice or compose during my sleep, and that brought me to noticing that I'd never even heard music, let alone much sound or voices.

Everything people say makes my want for a lucid dream increase, and it's killing me!

It's an interesting point. I'm unsure whether I've actually HEARD something in my dream.
There's times that I know that someone said something, and that music is playing, and the general mood and information about it... .but did I really HEAR it? Can't say I remember ever experiencing the sound itself either

      Music

Many years ago a teacher told me that we can't hear anything when we're dreaming... I accepted the fact. I've always been playing instruments like the piano or the guitar, but only recently got into composing electronic music (techno) on the computer. now, what's been happening to me maybe 2 or 3 times was that i was composing the (according to my half-lucid perception) most amazing sound in my dreams (which i was able to listen to as i composed). these sequences lasted only maybe 30-60 seconds each. unfortunately, i wasn't able to remember anything other than what kind of music it was... no tunes, no rhythms...
one more thing... i think when i heard/composed the music i had a kind of visual counterpart to this music, as if on psychedelic drugs (i wasn't sitting in front of a computer or anything, all i saw was darkness and some foggy patterns). i'm wondering if other people had similar experiences.

I have even had an audio-only dream in which I heard a conversation taking place. So, you can hear things in your dreams, even people speaking. I hear sounds all the time, actually, though I also have the 'telepathy-effect' in my dreams too.

I'm also a very musical person and quite often hear music in my dreams...actually really beautiful music.

I distinctly remember this one dream where I was in a store and they were playing this music in the background. I don't remember the melody or anything about it now, but it was original music. In the dream I was aware of how good it was - like it could have been a hit on an Adult Contemporary chart kinda thing in real life. The band playing was called "The Gigantics"

Another distinct dream music that stands out to me occured during a dream where I was watching the music Rent. I have never seen the movie/musical before, so my brain invented this opening number called "Through the years" that was so damn beautiful I woke up crying
