360 vision in a dream?

Just watched Waking Life again... and that one guy at the beginning of the movie was briefly describing LD's to our protagonist, and he said he was working on 360 vision.

The question was...is it possible to do this?? I can't even really fathom what that would be like.

You will have a semi-transparent sphere, i.e. field of vision, in front of you. The closest part of the sphere is what you see behind you. As you look further through the sphere, the further out in front of you it is. Think of the holographic picture of a globe that rotates on a screen.

If you learn to go out of body, you can tell your vision to look like this. Of course, if OOBEs are really just dreams, then yes it's possible in dreams.

Assuming OOBEs are real, and one can do in an LD what one can do in an OOBE, then yes you can have a 360º field of vision.
However, if OOBEs are real, but one cannot do in an LD what can be done in an OOBE, then we can neither confirm nor deny. Someone will have to do this during a dream, then we will have our evidence.

I think it's really hard, but possible.

However, I think that in dreams you only see what your mind thinks about. You don't really have eyes in dreams. So you could create the illusion of 360 vision I guess.

Our brains are enclosed in our physical body in real life, but in dreams they are not. I believe that our brains are capable of much more than our phsical body allows.
I guess that it would be possible, but very hard to comprehend, since we have got used to our 'real' vision over many years.

Of course...its pretty easy too, just have to practise with it a little. With an OK control over your dreams just increase your visual range slightly every time...and with a little time it will be a full 360.

I have an idea on how this could be possible and it includes envisioning separate fields of vision. First I'd see what is in front of me. Keeping that in mind, I would then look to my immediate left and immediate right, keeping each one in my minds eye. Then I'd "see" what was behind me. I'm not sure if I'm explaining it right but it makes sense in my head. It's basically just extending your field of vision.

However, being able to look in spherical direction, also being able to see above and below yourself. That'd be pretty cool but would take a while to figure out, I would think.

P.S. It's really hard to type with gloves on.

lol, I know what you mean. It was really cold in my room last night, so I put on some thin cloth gloves and tried to play computer games, but gave up >_<.

And yes, it is very possible to see 360 degrees in a dream. I've done it multiple times. I've also seen things through the eyes of two and three people at once. LD's are governed only by willpower, not physical bounds, so just willing yourself to be able to see in all directions would work, so long as you've got sufficient willpower and control to do so. And you don't have to do it by creating a sphere or whatever, you can do it however you find easiest.

Well, at that point it is not really vision anymore. You see, what happens is that one's Body Consciousness spreads out from one's body and stretches out over the surrounding territories, and one does not so much 'see' as feel everything that is all around.

In one of my sojouns to India I had a friend who would do this kind of thing during his brief restful meditations. he'd spread out over a couple of city blocks and 'see', or rather 'feel out', what was going on. Once we were sitting under the tree, waiting for the Guru to come out and give Darshan... a day to day thing, when my friend came out of his light trance, and said "come, on, this won't take long". We walked off about a half a mile to where we found a rare sight -- somebody had tied up a working ox and left it (usually they are allowed to wonder about free, and when they are required for work, somebody simply goes out to find them, but some lazy fellow, learning from the Western way of doing things, must have tied this one up to keep him handy). Anyway, its water had been knocked over, and my friend went to a nearby well and got the creature more water. Now, I had been with my friend all day long, and so I know almost to a certainty that he did not set up this situation to impress me. Indeed, to him it was just an errand, and we spoke of quite different things... gossiping like women.

We can read of quite the same kind of experience in that wonderful little book "Autobiography of a Yogi" by Yogananda... only in his version, he can spread out by the mile and never see a problem that needs mending.

So, it works like an extension of the body's 'Proprioception'?
