This may be a tip for more experienced dreamers, but once mastered it is a superior method of becoming aware.
Try to walk directly into the dream, already aware. The easiest way to "walk" into a dream is to wake up in the morning, and then lay back down with intent to fall back asleep.
Place yourself into a familiar invironment. Picture yourself walking down a street in your neighborhood. Stay focused on the environment you are picturing in your head. If you stay focused, your imagination will become more and more vivid untill you actually step right into the dream. The hardest part is staying focused. ITs very easy to get over excited by the increase in color and sense as you slip into your dream. If this happens, you will wake up and have to try again.
      Good luck.

^That is vey good advice, I've done it before. It's a little tricky, but it works. Also the reason you haven't been able to recognize could be from stress or anxiety in your life. If that's the case I'd recommend meditating or generally clearing your mind before you go to bed.

Welcome to the forum! Alas, this happens to me too, sometimes. It gets frustrating, sometimes. Having a very specific intent of what you want to get out of the dream is also key. Setting your intent will help you to stay focused.

I think it might be because your not "awake" enough in your dream to recognize your dreamsigns. you're in too deep of a sleep. for me, im pretty good at recognizing my dream signs, but i can still only be attentive enough if im not too far gone. this is why wbtb is such a good technique. it wakes your mind up enough so you dont just float through your dreams. try it out and good luck.
