      Experimenting with alarms

      Hi!
      I tried something last night. I have a PDA with an extensive alarms application that can play audio files at a certain time. So I recorded a whispered 'dream suggestion', just some keywords, and set it to play at 3h00 and 4h30. I got to bed at about 23u30.
      I think it actually worked, since I remember at a certain time that the things I recorded actually occured in my dream. I'm not going to get too excited, since I can't remember if it was before or after I woke up in the middle of the night. For all I know it could be the act of thinking it up and recording it that made me dream of it in the first place, not cause I heard the recording.

      Anyway, I was wondering if anyone has suggestions for other experiments with this? I was also thinking along the lines of anchoring an experience in a movie for example to a certain sound, so that after some time you would relive the experience in your dream by hearing the sound in your room. Can this be done? I'm just thinking out loud here. Please share any ideas and pointers

      I'm trying a similar experiment.

      For now I have a 5 minute MP3 with suggestions to become lucid.

      I'm experimenting with changing:
      1) time of night when file is played
      2) volume levels (this one has been hardest, many times file either woke me up or was completely ignored)
      3) length of file

      I also experiment with playing a file during WILD attempts. No success so far, but found that I needed a file at least 10 minutes long, and that it helped me to get closer to WILD without just dropping into deep sleep.

      interesting topic for me since I started doing something similar a couple weeks ago. I have an ibook and have an itunes alarm. I have it set to go off in the middle of the night playing sounds of rain. I have an hour of rain audio in three files, and I have it all repeat. So basically ,rain going off by my head for two hours. Now, everytime it rains I do a reality check. Im in portland, oregon as well, so it rains a lot. Ive had lucids since but never from a rain reality check. But maybe its helping on a subconcious level having the sounds playing. Anyways, I just started doing it and I do plan on making this a regular thing. Very easy to keep up and I imagine it would work better than the vocal cues, but Im not sure since Ive never tried it.

      Thats an interesting idea. I'll have to give that a try sometime as well

      Oh, and the reason I put it here was because my idea doesn't involve getting lucid, I just use the suggestions to specify the subject of the dream from then on.

      Oh right, makes sense. I guess even my method would induce a rainy dream.
