Dream characters - Why are they so real?

I never really bother talking to anyone or even notice people much when im having lucid dreams but when I do I cant help thinking that theyre real. They have real personalities and answer all the questions I ask them.

For example a few weeks ago I was flying over this mad looking town and i landed and walked into a building. There were all these ornaments on the shelves and I walked upstairs and through a door, it was the bathroom and there was a famous actor in there taking a shit. I started laughing but I couldnt help thinking he was real so I apologized for walking in and left. I went downstairs and there was a nice looking woman down there and I was considering doing a bit of the old in out in out with her but down comes the actor and for some reason I didnt want to bang his wife in front of him even though I knew it was a dream and like his wife he was just a figment of my imagination.

I went off on my way and took off into the air again then I noticed a doorway to an underground tunnel or something so I landed again and there was a big chain and padlock on the door. I tried to break it but instead of snapping it stretched and I woke up.

      Seconded.

You're pretty lucky if your DC's seem real. Mine are really stupid, for the most part. The ones that aren't tend to avoid me.

They're only as real as you think they are.

In my last LD, I came to the realization that everyone around me was completely fake, and they started to act that way. I predicted their movements, and they did them in the order I thought of.

I think the reason behind it is because of your subconscious mind. It holds all the information of everything you've ever heard, seen, thought, touched, smelled, and tasted. It has millions of experiences to extract from, and so it uses that to create the DCs that inhabit your LDs.

Yeah, in my LDs if I actually spend time with one DC and talk to them, I realize that they do exactly as I expect them too [like what they say or react, etc.].

It's because in dreams if you truly [consciously or not] believe in something, it'll be exactly as you believe it [like I've rarely caught my DCs say stupid things but I never remember them so I can never post it on that wonderful thread]

Well said. My DCs always act as I expect them to, especially if they are someone I know in real life. But occasionally they'll say something really off the wall. In LDs though I can talk to them like I would anyone else. Sometimes I think about it, and I realize that the person I'm talking to isn't real, and in a weird way me, and freak myself out.

Hi, this is my first post here.

Once in the midle of a dream I became aware and since I was walking along the street I decided to take a look at peoples' faces.
Amazingly, every face was different and had its own unique characteristics like in reality.
I couldn't believe my mind was making up all those faces.

And a couple of times I was able to conciously compose a melody in my dream. Now that was cool. It wasn't just one instrument tune but I was able to harmonize more instruments to get a complex melody.

I can't even imagine doing it in reality because it would require unprecidented multitasking capabilities. Maybe if my brain were a dual core processor

I don't think it's only our brains that are participating in this whole process.
