      Blacking Out

The last few times I've become lucid in a dream it has been very lame, and after becoming very excited I start paying attention to my heartbeat. After a few seconds I blacked out. It doesn't seem like I actually woke up immediately after blacking out though.

It's funny...once I became lucid while sitting in the passenger's seat of my dad's car. Once I knew it was a dream, he just completely forgot how to drive and started drifting off the road. I had to help him. Then after a few seconds of that, the dream ended.

Point is, could anyone just give a few tips on how to take control of a dream while still involving your imagination enough to avoid blacking out...Thanks in advance!

In our dreams, our subconscious enacts what we think. It seems that you have a preconceived idea that you will "black out" if you become lucid. Just forget about that, your always in control of your dream. Believe in what you want and you'll get it, it's that simple.

I agree with spartiate, if u believe it will happen, it will.
There is no real-life, there is only AFK.

That sounds like things people sometimes tell children... 'You can do anything as long as you believe you can!'.

Only in dreams this actually works, and the 'anything' is really ANYTHING. Hurray for dreams!

      Very good advice already!

Additionally, if the blacking out does start up again, start immediately paying lots of attention to your dream when you feel it coming on. Focus on touching things, listening to sounds, looking around you. Rub your hands together and focus on how it feels.

Turning your attention to dreamsensations like this tends to solidify the dream, make it more vivid, and hopefully stop the black out process. (which sounds like its basically you losing the dream).

      Hope that helps,
