I was going to say the exact same thing as lucid-princess. If your lucid already lacks the quality like good visual realness and your tactile sensations are not working properly, what sort of flight are you planning on experiencing? Things are going to look shitty, and you are not going to feel the rush of wind, clouds, rain, etc. Man, I'd rather not even fly in that case!
I think you should have taken the time to stabilize the dream and your lucidity (because you can always lose lucidity and the dream by rushing into things). So it may simply be because you rushed that you woke up. Always work on touching and looking at things while saying aloud that you are lucid, that you are in a dream.
Also, what were you flying into? If there was a ceiling about you, maybe you didn't 100% believe that you could fly through it. I'd recommend watching some Powerpuff Girl episodes, ceilings never seem to bother them
Another consideration is that you were doubtful about your ability to fly, and immediately thought more of falling than of flying. What you think of and worry about in dreams will manifest itself, and if that is indeed what happened then it is no surprise that you fell. Taking that time to remain very much aware that you are dreaming and are in control of the universe will help your confidence and therefore dream control.
And the last thing I'll add since this is getting so long! Read up on methods of remaining lucid and in your dreams, because something like losing all visual sensation can be gotten around and you can prolong the dream and get it going again. Do that by any method which floods all of your senses to prevent your body from using its senses to find itself in your bed. This means touching, smelling, tasting, and hearing things if you can't see.
