Was Lucid Thursday morning, tried to fly

Became lucid in this particular dream when I thought to myself in the dream that something like this happened in another dream. (Reoccurring event). And then it hit me I was dreaming. So the first thing I did was touch a wall and it didn't feel very real at all. In fact, it creeped me out a bit. Next, there was a fan blowing with dust on it. I looked at it but it was pixel-like. Blurry/blotchy/not clear. So I decided to fly for the first time.......I jumped up and demanded to fly. And I fell into darkness...and kept falling straight down with this horrible feeling in my stomach until my body woke me up.

What did I do wrong? Should I have not jumped up before demanding to fly?

In my opinion you should try to make your dream more clear before attempting anything such as flying, but why you randomly fell into darkness lol. I have no idea :S

I was going to say the exact same thing as lucid-princess. If your lucid already lacks the quality like good visual realness and your tactile sensations are not working properly, what sort of flight are you planning on experiencing? Things are going to look shitty, and you are not going to feel the rush of wind, clouds, rain, etc. Man, I'd rather not even fly in that case!

I think you should have taken the time to stabilize the dream and your lucidity (because you can always lose lucidity and the dream by rushing into things). So it may simply be because you rushed that you woke up. Always work on touching and looking at things while saying aloud that you are lucid, that you are in a dream.

Also, what were you flying into? If there was a ceiling about you, maybe you didn't 100% believe that you could fly through it. I'd recommend watching some Powerpuff Girl episodes, ceilings never seem to bother them

Another consideration is that you were doubtful about your ability to fly, and immediately thought more of falling than of flying. What you think of and worry about in dreams will manifest itself, and if that is indeed what happened then it is no surprise that you fell. Taking that time to remain very much aware that you are dreaming and are in control of the universe will help your confidence and therefore dream control.

And the last thing I'll add since this is getting so long! Read up on methods of remaining lucid and in your dreams, because something like losing all visual sensation can be gotten around and you can prolong the dream and get it going again. Do that by any method which floods all of your senses to prevent your body from using its senses to find itself in your bed. This means touching, smelling, tasting, and hearing things if you can't see.

Thanks both of you. That makes perfect sense that it didn't work because the dream wasn't stable. In my other lucid dream, when I started to lose clarity and lucidity, I focused on making sure I didn't and it did work easily. Why I didn't do it this time? I guess because the dream wasn't very clear before being lucid or after so I didn't feel I was "losing" clarity when it wasn't clear from the start. This was my first time trying to fly and I just did it on a whim because I never did it before. Boy was I surprised when I fell straight down LOL. I actually thought it would work. Well in the dream, the ceilings were very high so I would've had enough room to soar across the living room and out of the window haha. Next time, I'll try again and make sure everything is stable and that I'm fully lucid like suggested.

I have read the different methods. (Unless there are new ones), but I've never used any of them to stay lucid. I just sort of stand still in the dream and focus on it. In what seems like dream seconds, everything is clear and I'm fully lucid again. It's pretty easy and works for me so I just figure that if it's not broke, don't fix it.

What I did this morning was to first simply levitate about a foot off the ground a few times. This began to work after a few tries, so I knew I could fly. So I flew around like Superman all over the place. It's awesome.
