      Unable to take control

I had a 'lucid' dream the other night if you can call it that. I say that because i knew i was dreaming and was constantly telling myself that i was dreaming but i still had no control over my body or surroundings...anyone else ever had this problem?

When you say you were unable to control your body- were you trying to?
Either you had a lucid and were doing something wrong (moving your arms and walking around shouldn't be any harder (or different) than it is in waking life), OR you had a dream about being lucid. If you realized you were dreaming at some point, then you were lucid. If, on the other hand, you were just saying that you were dreaming but didn't become conscious of it, then it was just another dream.

      Hey Point
Thanks for the quick reply, yes i believe i was conscious that i was dreaming i was arguing with DC's about the fact that i was dreaming as they kept trying to convince me otherwise, but other than that i could not affect much else. I guess i was expecting some sort of big revelation moment whereas instead it was a bit like watching a movie??

Was you dream from a third person view? could you see yourself?

Well, in a lucid you normally have an *aha!* moment and then you decide what you're going to do. Maybe it was "low level" lucidity? Anyway the thing about moving your body is that you shouldn't try thinking about moving your arm like in a daydream- instead you should try moving your arm like when awake. Even when the dream is in third person view you can usually just feel for your body or try moving it and what do you know- you have a dream body. Doing that may cause a false awakening sometimes, though.

yes as you say it was exactly like that, i only had 'passive control' (for want of a better phrase)

and it was a mix of both a third person & first person perspective

Its good that your recognizing that your dreaming but as Point said maybe it was just low level?. As i said i do often have dreams and I'm keep telling myself I'm only dreaming but cant do anything that i want to do just like a normal dream.

What was you doing can you remember?

i was walking through my home town when i realised that some things were not right with my surroundings and people were acting oddly, i then proclaimed to myself that i was dreaming
i was then pulled away from this scenery to be confronted by 5 beings sitting in huge white chairs and they kept telling me that i was not yet ready and so would not be able to be allowed to become lucid and stated this was because i was infact not actually dreaming, this was obviously frustrating as i knew it was obviously not true but these beings seemed intent on making things difficult, i was then returned to a local pub but had no control knowing it was a dream but unable to act upon this knowledge

If it happens agian..........tell the beings to do one.....and zap them.

I'm guessing it was lucid because you knew you was dreaming.

Just one that you couldn't get control of

      Hi Cleef,
This is a powerful technique to establish full lucidity when you become aware that you are dreaming. The moment you realize you are dreaming, look at the nearest object in front of you. Look at your hands, although they may look odd at first, but keep looking until you are fully awake. Or you can look at the soil in front of you, pick it up and let it run through your fingers until you are wide awake in your dream. Normally dream images fly away or evaporate once waking consciousness replaces it.
There may be a point, when some guys in your dream "sitting on white chairs" advice you that you are not ready as yet. Its good to adopt a positive attitude, spiritualise your consciousness through meditation perhaps. The main point though is not to be afraid.

Well, so that was definitely a lucid. An odd one by my standards, though. I don't know how you could be unable to control your body, unless you were watching "your body" from third person view. In that case I think you should try to switch into first person (just try moving your (own) arms and legs- that should do the trick). Or were you unable to control your body in first person?

Doood! All my dreams are like this. I rarely wake up and remember my dreams, I usually wake up and remember being in the dream at some point.

I can usually make decisions, weather it's touching something or saying something. It's kind of like a multiple choice question where my dream pauses for a second and I think about what to do, but never is,"I am dreaming, do what ever I want" an option.

For instance I saw these 7 foot tall giese outside my old house and I went outside and I walked up to them and I decided I wanted to touch them. At that time in the dream I could have touched them, or decided not to, but nothing in between.

More recently I had remembered this dream in the middle of the day.(also rare for me) The weird thing was that I remember controlling a dirtbike throttle while doing a wheelie and actually ballancing with my own conscious judgement. Things really REALLY weird happen in my dreams, for instance I was back at my old house and I saw people in hazmat suits in a blizzard. Even before this dream, I knew that my old house was a dream sign, that still never occured to me durring the dream. The only LDs I've had just started randomly, I never had an "aha!" moment.
