I keep having "black outs" during lucids

So last night I had another lucid dream, actually it was a series of a lot of DILD lucids, very cool and very fun. I have a problem though and maybe others have this same thing. Whenever I LD at some point it will destabilize, but I won't be aware that it is fading. Then I will find myself just staring at blackness, like the back of my eyes. I know I am a sleep but I can't see anything, it can remain like this for what seems like a few minutes then I'll either fall into deep sleep or enter another dream (and maybe not be lucid). I'm wondering if anyone else experiences this, could I possibly WILD when I see the dark. I wish the black outs would stop because they come on so suddenly and interupt my LD

This happens to me sometimes. I am lucid and then I black out and I have to do a DEILD. I usually notice it is happening so I am prepared to stay motionless until the dream scene comes back. Maybe you should look into DEILDing so you can outsmart the blackouts

I notice dreams fading like this a lot. Its either leaving REM sleep or waking up.

The spinning technique is good. When/if the dream stars to fade, spin around and around like crazy. The dream scene will change, but by spinning its though that you force your brain to focus on the dreaming you rather than the waking you.

A new dream scene should form around you.
As you spin you need to remind yourself "im dreaming im dreaming".
If you don't you might enter next dream scene non lucidly.

Experienced this last night.. i had a lucid dream in which i was talking to a person and then i realized i was dreaming..i decided to rub my hands to increase vividness but i must have rubbed them too much cause the dream faded and i got the same black out.. i was in my bed.. i made a reality check (NP) and i realized it was a false awakening.. now i wanted to get up and go in my dream but i couldn't.. just black vision and the pillow under my head.. the only thing i could do was the damn nose pitching LOL so i continued for a while pitching my nose and breathing and telling myself "I'm dreaming".. then i lost awareness and woke up

Thats interesting. I keep reading that rubbing hands is supposed to increase vividness too. But every time I try it it makes the dream go fuzzy.

Reading some of Laberge's papers, I note he states that hand rubbing and spinning have a near identical purpose, which is to ground you when you feel the dream is fading, and keep you dreaming. The main difference being that with spinning you're more likely to end up in a new dream scene, whilst hand rubbing has a greater (but not total) chance of keeping you in the same scene.

I'd have to conclude that it is best not to do either until the dream truly is fading.

As a general means of grounding yourself in a dream, its probably best to use the tactile sensation by making contact with the objects around you.
