8/23/08 - The Pool, The House, and The Door

Case #1: The Pool, The House, and The Door

I am a friend of a member of a New York police squad that is in charge of investigating a death. I do not know the details, but I know that the death is wrapped up in a bunch of other issues.

A location involved is a house with a swimming pool, which a dream memory says is rare in this part of the state. The door to the house does not open. The owner house, a woman with red hair, is linked to the crime in some way. We find out that some sort of spirit or ghost affects the place. If you move toward the house, it is possible to walk on the surface of the water. The proper way to enter the house is to do this while whispering "Jessica, marry me." The owner's name is not Jessica, which I found strange. After doing that, press yourself against the door and you phase through it.

There is a play at a theater at some point in the dream, the lead actor and actress being an older couple. The couple are involved in the crime too.

A subplot in the dream is that Brianna, a person I know, and one of her friends are part of some sort of honor ceremony, like a college graduation. Briana's parents work a lot, and she is afraid her mother won't be able to come to the ceremony. In the end, I go to the ceremony to see her mother arrive. Everything is happy for a moment, and then I feel a huge surge of adrenaline, as I think I solved the crime.

I race back to the pool house and cross the water saying the words. I lean against the door and... nothing. "What do you want, a bribe?" I ask. Then I fall in.

Suddenly it is nighttime. The house I entered has a staircase directly in front of me, with a closed door to my right. A light is coming from the crack beneath the door, and I think it is a bathroom. A wide room opens to my left, but it is dark and I do not look in. To the right of the staircase is a series of doors down a hallway.

I feel threatened for some reason, and note that a screen door was behind the unopenable one. In this dream, I am stronger than I am in waking life. I wrench the screen off, intending to use it as a shield, but it is too unwieldy and I set it down. I notice a cane in the corner, and I hold it like a baseball bat.

I move up the stairs slowly and see a huge bedroom at the top. It is empty and has two doors leading off, one at the far side, one on the same side as the stairs. I go to the far door and peek through just long enough to see the old couple taking a bath together. I close the door before they see me.

I suddenly forget all about the crime and remember the owner is a friend. I don't want to scare her, and I am unsure if I should wait inside for her, or go out and come back in once I am sure she is out of the bathroom. On my way to the stairs, she comes up and greets me. We are talking like old friends when the other bedroom door opens. Inside, a man on the police squad is loading clothes into a suitcase. I assume the room was for rent.

The woman comments on how "I might like to go into Brook or Manhat[This isn't abbreviated, she actually said that verbatim] and see some old friends". I realize that this woman is also Brianna's friend's mother, and that the friend is probably asleep in one of the downstairs rooms.

I now see a group of children in the corner of the room, probably about 10 years old. They are playing a game with some electronic device. It emits a series of beeps, and you have a button that mutes it when held down. The objective is to hold down the button just long enough to block out one series of beeps, and nothing more.

Despite the kids making a lot of noise, I fall asleep in the dream and wake up for real.

I'm not totally sure why this dream stuck out in my mind. Probably due to the fact that I managed to break a dry spell of recall with this one, by a simple autosuggestion.

      Very cool. Decent length, strange/creepy.

Definitely my type of dream. 5/5
