Ok, I will share with you some theories about dream imagery that might be helpful. There are a few schools of thought on this.
1) dream imagery is archetypal (black cats mean the same thing for everyone)
2) dream imagery is totally subjective( a black cat in your dream means only what it means to you and noone else)
3) dreams can be a mixture of archetypes and subjective imagery and are influenced by what we watch and experience and our state of mental health as well as drugs and alchohol
I tend to feel that number three is the best way to begin understanding dream imagery. Some archetypes are communicated through social exposure (acculturation). So death in your dreams may have significance as you have seen it portayed in the media and been around or heard of it. However, there is another aspect of dreams that people often overlook and that is this. Our dream imagery is usually influenced by the things we watch alot. So if you are into army movies and supernatural thrillers from an early age I am not surprised at all that your dream dictionary would use death as a common motif. If you are also suffereing from depression well then its more serious and you should find someone to talk to about it.
I say that with some caution. Because there is a line that can be crossed where it becomes too much that may be different with each person. So if I were a psychologist (and I'm not) I would want to examine how you really feel about death and then talk about the scenarios of some of the deaths you see in your dreams. The one you have mentioned suggests to me that your concept of death is sort of a media thing. Was he dead, maybe, maybe not, who the hell knows? It's like a bad vampire movie.
More seriously you might take a look at mom and son here. Are you concerned about this friend? Or perhaps you are at an age where you are starting to question the wisdom of parents, mothers perhaps.
Anyways, what it means it means to you and if you sit and carefully consider it along with your feelings and thoughts I think you will find more there than you currently imagine. In fact if you write them down night after night and learn to hear the message you might find that you are telling yourself important things about how you feel.
If you want the imagery to change start reading stuff that has something other than death and mass murders in it (if in fact that is the case). As they say garbage in garbage out. This is an LD site and I would hope that when you master it you will paint your dream world with better things than gratuitous violence and indiscriminate killing.
Best Regards
EJ
