Could someone help me interpret this dream?

Usually I forget my dreams, but this one I remember fairly well. I feel I should tell everyone a little bit of pertinent info. I broke up with this girl about three months ago, and while I don't still talk to her or anything, I haven't really gotten over her. She's been in several of my dreams, and this one is the most vivid.

So the dream started off in an acting class (we used to take an acting class together in real life). The room was a small black theater with maybe 40 - 50 seats. There were only four people in the room at the beginning: me, my ex girlfriend, my teacher, and someone else. The fourth person left pretty quickly. I did not want to be alone in there with her, so I thought about leaving class myself. Then she looks over at me and whispers "we never would have worked out anyway" with a smile, and then I really wanted to leave. But I decided to stay because I have a tremendous respect for acting and the teacher.

So my ex started doing an acting exercise by herself, and I tried hard to not pay attention to what she was doing. Then the room transformed to an outdoor setting (a grassy hill next to a road), and my ex started doing a different acting exercise which had her crawling around on all fours on the grass. The teacher wanted me to participate in the exercise with her and I refused, and was about to walk away. Then my ex tripped over something and hit her head on the cement curb and started crying. At this moment I was filled with compassion and I ran over to her and started taking care of her. I looked at her forehead and there were two bruises from the cement that she hit her head on, but there were also two more nastier looking bruises on her head that didn't come from the cement at all.

Then the dream ended and I woke up.

Anyone have any idea what this means?

Certainly interesting. Again, i shall raise an idea, note that i am just thinking out loud, and i am just guessing based on my reading and feelings.

The reason we get interested in the opposite gender is for psychological reasons. Physical appearance plays a role, but we apologize to ourselves to fit it into the psychological one. In the first half of life we are attracted to our opposites, to work on our weaker functions via projection on a trusted person associated with our anima (female)/animus (male). Hence, the significant other isn't just a person, but the part of ourselves we want to develop. If you had a strong association with her, she may be more of a feeling to you than a person. If so, her rejection of you can be translated as a rejection of yourself, something you may be refusing to accept.

If that makes sense to you, the rest of the dream should also make sense, because the playing out of the "i pretend not to care", "i'm not really part of you", works out well, and the sympathy you cannot ignore either, begging for integration.

I would suggest coming to terms with what she represents to you. That alone can break the bind, and eventually, help you find it somewhere else.

To tell you the truth, I never really found her all that physically attractive. I mean, I liked the way she looked, but that wasn't really what jumped out at me. It was more of a communication thing. I felt like I could talk to her about anything.

I'm not really sure what she has "that I'd like to develop in myself" so to speak. Our tastes in art (museums, movies, plays, etc) are almost identical. Our backgrounds and how we were raised are really similar. Our life views are a little bit different, but not too much.

Also, I'm 27 and consider myself to be a fairly well developed human being. I say that because you mentioned "in the first half of our lives"....
