      Hello and Help (please)

      Hi All,

I am a complete newbie and posted this in the intro forum, but thought I'd pop it here too for any comments......................

As a child I was troubled by nightmares, but also got very involved with my dreams and enjoyed them playing out - the good ones that is. I can still recall dreams I had some 35 years later!

As an adult, I used to dream about my teeth falling out, but just put this down to sleeping with my mouth open and my tongue resting against my teeth :-S this has stopped now.

I split from a (very) long term relationship (my decision) and had reoccurring dreams that fish were out of water. This stopped after a couple of years, when my life settled down again.

I often have nightmares, I am aware it's a dream, and in my dream I scream to wake myself up, but only muffled sounds come out. My partner knows the warning signs and if I don't managed to wake myself up 'screaming', then he does this for me :-)

This is just background. What really intrigues me is my persistent reoccurring dream about packing to go home, with lots of obstacles in the way. There's usually a flight or boat trip involved, endless car journeys on motorwarys or around cities, even complicated hotel corridors, but it's the endless packing that goes on and on that is the bulk of the dream. It is always to get home, rather than go away. The dreams can last for ages. I usually have a dream like this at least once a week.

I know I am probably waffling and there's lots of information, but would love to hear anyone's comments......................

      Thanks !!!

Welcome to the forum =) I have not had many nightmares in general but I used to have a few. But ever since I started to pay attention to my dreams and practice my awareness of the dream,
I have had more stable dreams and very few nightmares, well what I call nightmare now is probably not what people would define nightmare either so.
Last night I dreamt that a woman pointed a gun to my head and I was kidnapped, but it wasn't scary it was more like watching a movie, I know it's a scary theme but I don't get scared.
This frightning feeling have completely disapeared since I started lucid dreaming.

There are written tutorials on this forum on how to lucid dream, but if you rather would like to listen and see examples "inside" the dream world this is the best beginner guide according to me.

Lucid dreaming can help you get rid of nightmares. You can for example have a nightmares about skeletons chasing you (sorry for giving your mind ideas ) but then realize it's a dream and just get a baseball bat and kick their a*ses the only downside is that if you don't get lucid but only a little more aware and not relizing it's a dream, well then it increase the terrifying feeeling :/
But when you start practicing you will later on get lucid immediately when a nightmares occurs because it's you will be critical to what you see.

      Good luck =)
