What does it mean to dream about the same man?

For the past year, the same man has been appearing in my dreams. In the realistic dreams - the ones where I wake up confused because I think it's actually happened - he is often right beside me, as either my friend or boyfriend. But in the others, he appears only briefly. He may be stood in the distance, staring at me or may be walking past if I'm in a city or something. I always mention it to my dream 'friends' as well, if I'm with any. You can always rely on him to be there. Most of the characters in my dreams don't really have faces, but this guy does. When I'm awake I can't imagine it, but I know that he does because he's very handsome. I can only remember that he has dark hair and eyes (which is unusual for me, as I like blonde and blue eyed fellas). I used to dream nearly every night, and most of the time they were the ones where I knew him personally. I've even had sex with this guy in them. But recently, my dreams have been less often and in them he has mostly been far away. It's almost as if he's angry with me. I love my mind. I feel like it's made this drama for me to follow, that has extended past one dream and into many. But what does it mean? Who, or what, does this man represent?
