      Smile Can't cross the bridge.....

      Hello,

I was hoping someone might have some ideas about a particular part of a dream that I just can't quite figure out. I am able to understand most of it, but there is one part that just bugs me.

The main subject of the dream was that I was leaving everything behind, and just started walking. At one point in the dream I came to a very long bridge (the bridge is real. It is very high traffic and dangerous to cross on foot.) For some reason I really needed to cross it, but could not figure out a way to do it. I then had the ability to "fly" back and forth the bridge to look for a way to cross. From below, I could see people in round wire cages above the bridge, but they weren't moving and didn't seem to be crossing. From above, I looked for a pedestrian walk or another road that crossed the river, but I was out of luck.

At this point there is a gap in the dream. Next thing I remember I was in a diner preparing for the next leg of my journey. I don't know if I crossed the bridge or decided to go another direction.

I'd really like opinions about the bridge it's self, it's importance, and why I couldn't find a way to cross.

      Thanks, 8Ball

      Hello there

I amnot an expert on this , and I'm very new to the whole thing of dreams and interpretation and so on . However , I would want to ask you a few questions about your real life : are you taking any important decisions ? are you trying to solve a mystery or a problem or trying to connect two things ?

      Hi Isabelle1,

Thank you so much for replying. In my real life, I'm a very busy person and at times it is stressful, but there is really no decisions or connections that I'm trying to make (at least none that I'm aware of on a conscious level). I think that's why that aspect of the dream confuses me so much. It doesn't matter to me about your experience level of interpretation, I would just really like an opinion or ideas that I may not have thought of. If you have any ideas, I would love to hear them! It might give me a different way of looking at it....

Hmm, are you considering to leave that busy stressful life but don't know how and that you've tried looking at it from a couple angles but to no avail?
Also something I wondered was if you associate 'very high traffic' with busy and stressful. If so, I might guess that your busy and stressful life is also making it hard for you to figure out what you want to do next...which is pretty usual.
You say the bridge is real; is it in your city, and does it lead anywhere of interest to you?
You perceive the bridge as long which might indicate a psychological state of fatigue.
Have you had those feelings about your situation, with work and where you live?
Also, "People in round wire cages" could mean a few things; what does it mean to you?

As it stands, my interpretation is that you want to change your living situation (with work and residence), the place you want to go is across in the direction of the bridge (across the river), you feel afraid, too tired, and stressed to figure it out, but that you know you need to do it and the next opportunity you have some free time you want to sit down and give it your full focus.

Funny you should bring this up ... I just now started reading about yer dream. Then my eyes drooped and my face fell down flat against my keyboard cause I fell asleep for a micro-moment. You didn't bore me. I just sleep like ... a LoT. ... And as I slept I had a drEaM about what yer drEaM means!

Consider that life is a kind of game where the goal is to master (or at least fumble through) various assorted challenges. Those challenges are bridges, in yer dReam, anyway. But you just COULDN'T stay in yer lane could you ... you couldn't even stay on the bridge! Na! You insisted on getting all creative and taking flight. You wanted to view your life from overhead, get a macrocosmic view, get the bigger picture, appreciate the whole gestalt! ... Your brain, kid, is trying to tell you to use creative, even unconventional means to deal with your life challenges (ASSuming you aren't, already). Using more creative tactics for problem-solving will simplify your tasks, make things easier. ANd take more vacations for cripes sake.

All those caged human cReAtures on the bridge were caged as a consequence of refusing to or not knowing how to color outside the frickin box, if ya feel me. But I don't mind caged things. I get hUngry aBout 70 times per day.

The last time I had a dream about a cage, it was about self censorship, but that was what was caging me at the time, you need to figure out what is caging you in - even though you were not one of the people in the cage but often in such dreams the other dream characters might be us as well, so maybe you were both in a cage and flying free.

Perhaps it is not that you are currently at a bridge decision point, but maybe your subconscious is telling you that you need to be. Maybe there is a gap in your life / a chasm / an issue / a disconnect which you need to cross over but maybe you not only are having trouble figuring out how to cross it, but you do not even realize that there is something that needs to be crossed right now, because you are so stressed out that you are not self aware enough to see the issue. You may need a different perspective to realize what your issue is first, and only once you have identified it can you figure out whether there is a bridge and if so how to cross it safely.

I hope this helps. And if it does not, feel free to disregard.

Edit: it is also possible that the reason why you do not realize which issue this is about is because this subject is so dangerous (like that bridge) that your mind does not really want to cross it despite deep down knowing that it needs to be crossed. Also the bridge being so long means perhaps that this is an ongoing problem, so not something happening right now in your life but rather something that has been going on for a while and will continue to go on unless you do decide to cross that bridge after all, to acknowledge that yes there is an issue there that needs to be resolved even if your mind would rather avoid it.

Edit2: I just had another thought. You know that saying "we will cross that bridge when we get there" which is at times used to postpone thinking about an aspect of an issue that is still just a future possibility. Well, maybe this dream is either saying that the time has come: that you did get there, and now you need to cross that bridge which you had postponed crossing before (that risk that you put off considering because it seemed like a distant possibility). Or maybe the dream is cautioning you against postponing considering something now: don't say "we will cross that bridge when we get there" but do engage that part of the issue that you thought you could dismiss for now, because if you do dismiss it now, you may later find that it is too dangerous to cross it without a thorough prior plan?

Thank you guys for your replies!

I think all of you have touched on different aspects of the dream that are giving me a much better understanding of what it means to me/my situation.

That particular bridge is in the area that I used to live. The other side of the bridge hold the towns where I grew up and where most of my family still lives. I may be looking to leave all the stress of my life and long to go back to a time/place where life was much simpler. Fracas, I particularly like your insight of my "flight" back and forth to look at the bridge from different angles. I like that it suggests that my "flight" means I'm looking for different ways to solve the problem at hand. I don't necessarily want to change all of my life, I'm happily married for almost 15 years and have a lot of thing that are good. His job and my job make things very busy and stressful and I think that's what I want to change. The fact that the bridge is very difficult to cross, I think, means that getting to a calmer life is simply going to be something that won't be easy but I'm up for the challenge.

Thanks again for all of your replies. You have helped give me a better insight as to what this dream means to me and my situation.
