As far as the waking world is concerned, sometimes a craving for dirt, rocks, or large quantities of ice in females can indicate pregnancy or severe anemia in either sex. This is referred to as pica. One's body loses precious minerals such as iron and calcium during the gestation of the fetus and the human body has a tendency to crave what it needs. Dirt, rocks, and even ice may contain such minerals in limited quantities. Somehow we instinctively know this.
Now, in the dream world there are some interesting parallels to what I've just stated above. Old or weak bones represent poor nourishment. This doesn't necessarily pertain exclusively to food, but possibly to emotional or spiritual concerns. Given the fact that an archeological crew discovered these bones, I imagine some of them were broken. Broken bones represent a lack of support or unclear feelings. Rocks typically represent stability. Obviously, there is a paradox present here. Such stability can be extremely negative where emotions are concerned as they may indicate a person who is emotionally closed. The eating of the rocks may represent the integration of new feelings or ideas into one's life--good or bad.
Have you or someone close to you experienced an unexpected pregnancy that you feel unsure about? Has a loved one (even a pet) recently passed away? Have you recently terminated a passionate relationship? I noticed that you have a career in mortuary science. Have you recently had to perform services for an infant or young child? If so, you may be questioning the nature of life and your role within it. You may be tempted to close yourself off from feelings. The archeologists in your dream (which closely align with the dream symbol of a scientist) indicate to me that you are at least mulling something over. The overall symbolism of the dream reveals that you are working through some emotional conundrum.
The fact that the dream occurred in your yard tells me that your inner self was the focus of this dream. The fact that specific items were discovered along with the bones indicates that you need to pay more attention to your own feelings (jewelry) and that these feelings need to be reshaped (pottery) in order to grow--hence the symbolism of the yard where one finds many living things.
Finally, when you experience emphasis on a particular emotion within the dream world, there is a possibly that such feelings are repressed in the waking world. If you have indeed dealt with one (or more) of the circumstances listed above recently, your subconscious may be trying to tell you that you must work hard to sort out your feelings to get where you are going--and you will get there (joy) in time.
