When I was 14ish I had a dream that I made love to a gypsy girl beneath a gypsy wagon, away from the noise of the bonfire. For years I was vaguely in love with that girl who never existed, and maybe I still am. My memory was jogged by this lyric from the Decemberists' song Shiny

A tawny gypsy girl
sleeping blanketed by stars

the song I've been playing several times each day since a cramped, fumbling, anticlimactic sexual encounter on Tuesday night, which nevertheless has left an impression.

Does anyone have an interpretation for the gypsy girl dream, which has stayed with me for fifteenish years now? It has a symbolic resonance that suggests to me I might not be the only one with this dream.
