Dreams where you are not yourself?

This is a repost from general dream discussion, I thought it would fit better on this sub forum.

Hey everyone, I'm new to these forums. I'm a 23 yo male and I am a part time lucid dreamer. I have been having some strange non-lucid dreams though and I was wondering if anyone else has ever had these kind of dreams.

The main thing is that I keep dreaming I am a woman. I had one a couple weeks ago where I was a gorgeous blond. I was alone in this rich guy's house. I decided for some reason to cut off my head and set it down on a chair in the middle of the room. Then I grew another head and began stealing as much of the rich guy's stuff as I could. All the while, my severed head's beautiful eyeballs were following me through the room. When I started getting creeped out I leaned close to my face, and it started speaking in tongues to me, at which point I had to wake up because I was seriously freaked out.

As far as how this dream made me feel, when I first cut off my head and looked at my face I got a big rush of euphoria and I felt very sexy. My severed head was seriously the most gorgeous thing I'd ever seen. But the rest of the dream was more or less a crescendo of fear and trepidation until I woke up.

Some of my other dreams about being women have been more disturbing than that one. I don't usually get to do anything fun in these dreams, and sometimes I'm being victimized or abused. I've never suffered any abuse in my waking life. One time I had a dream in which I was several women over the course of the dream and each of them were killed in different ways. It isn't just my body that changes, it also seems to be something that I just "know". I'm not sure why I want this interpreted but I was thinking that it's kind of wierd that I haven't been "me" in a while in any of my dreams. Whoever this "me" person is.

      Thanks, malkavian

Hi malkavian, and welcome to DreamViews.

I have dreams where I am not myself too. I don't know what your dreams mean, but the one thing I can tell you is that a recurring theme like that may make it easier to become lucid.

Try to remember to think about it a lot, reminding yourself that the next time you "are not yourself" or "are a woman" (however you want to think about it) you will remember that you are dreaming, and you will become lucid. If they are bothering you, maybe you can change them into something else that way.

At least the dreams may be good for something. Good luck.

I just recently (last night) had a dream that I was a different race, and another dream just after that I was a completely different person, with a different personality and characteristics than I usually have.
It was cool, and kind of wierd at the same time.
Perhaps these characteristics are something of what we wish to become (not saying that you want to become a woman ) or flaws that we find in ourselves that we wish to change (not that there neccesarily are any).
      Just a thought-

I once had a dream that I was a Catholic Priest who was really Mickey Mouse in disguise. In reality, I'm not Catholic, I'm a woman, and I certainly am not Mickey Mouse. It was strange.
All is not what it seems in your dreams.

I think I remember being some 11- or 12-year-old girl in a nonlucid dream I had well after my childhood years. And that early-adolescent girl was not just a younger me, because she was in a movielike scenario unlike anything I ever lived through. She was basically a character in this drama or adventure that was going on. That's all I can come up with for dreaming of not being myself.

No dream goals at the moment...just flying and letting stuff happen is kinda fun, and it's hard to motivate myself to try LDing lately.

It's pretty normal by dream standards to be someone else. Just look at me - I had a dream where I was a giant six-legged wooly mammoth type creature with a long trunk and an even longer tounge, who was out in a dry lake basin taking DNA samples with my tounge from things that looked like black kittens.
