      The Hill

Okay, you guys were great at the Old House Dreams interpretation. I feel at rest with that one now.

Here's another frequent dream of mine...

My mom lives next to a large hill. When I was younger, I used to go and explore this hill. There's caves and such.

In my dream, I sometimes drive up this hill. There's a lot of water erosion, sometimes steep cliffs. The scape doesn't seem familiar anymore. Sometimes there's military action going on here...army vehicles. On the other side of the hill is a creek. Sometimes I drive down to the creek and explore. It's all different. Strange vegetation with overhanging branches. There's someone's house back there that I'm looking for but I know I will never find.

In one of these dreams, there was a great slide. Dirt was pouring off of the hill, in the opposite direction of Mom's house. I stood watching as the dirt slid off the hill, exposing bedrock in towering spires. Boulders were crashing to the ground and rolling in my direction, and I was dodging them. When it was finished, there were spires pounting skywards like fingers.

The hill behind mom's house has importance to me. When I was younger and feeling lost, I'd climb to the top and sit there. You can see the entire town from there. I'd pray and meditate there, in complete solitude. Theres no roads that lead up there. There's a single tree on the edge of the cliff, and the ground is mostly rock. I named this place Prayer Rock.

In the dreams, I'm usually looking for something. One of my elders, in the dream, told me that I had to go back here and find something. It was something of great importance. I'm on the lookout in the dreams. Keeping careful watch all around me.

My feeling in these dreams is one you get when you're out exploring. You know that feeling? Cautious and a bit afraid...but excited at seeing a new place? I'm afraid that if I go too far, I'm going to get lost. But I keep on going through steep slopes.

I have this "hill dream" about once a month. I wake from the dream feeling lonely and exhausted.

Mom is still alive. She lives about a ten minute drive from my house. In the dream, I never get a sense of what type of vehicle I'm driving. If I'm hiking in this dream, I'm usually well-prepared...I have a canteen, boots, the whole nine-yards.

Thanks for your insight on this puzzing dream.

To start off, you being in a car and driving it yourself would represent your ambition, drive and ability to navigate from one stage of your life to another. With the theme of the hill I would guess it would represent your struggles in achieving a goal. Though, do you ever get to the top of the hill? And also, how is the drive for you up this hill? Is it rough or smooth on your way up? I would say seeing a military actions going on would show your authority and you’re emotional repression. But I would assume that the dream is showing your progression on your transition in your life. The theme of water and military I would assume is representing your emotional state while in the progression. Though, you did say you saw the other side of the hill so you may have reached the top and were on your way down (I’m assuming because you didn’t say.) So if that did happen you may not be ready with your final goal or you’re still searching for it. But with the creek on the other side I think would represent you’re personal emotion and flow if it. Oh, I think I got it! If you have never hit the top of the hill but you saw on the other side of the creek which would represent you’re emotional release. So, as you’re driving through your transition of you’re old life to your new one the hill and the creek on the other side could represent what could be waiting for you on the other side once you achieved your goal. Which would mean you’re emotional contentment with your life... Dare I say peace?
I think what the house you’re looking for is yourself or your own self. So maybe you’re searching for yourself but with you saying that you’ll never find it. May mean you’re just not ready to find it.

I think with the theme of the Dirt sliding off the hill would represent the emotion that you’ve been holding back and with the dirt sliding off is exposing your emotion that you’ve been keeping back. Also, I think it may represent the stress of you’re old life and the responsibilities that you think rest on your shoulders. I think this may go with the theme of the Military as you were driving up the hill. Maybe the Military is representing yourself keeping everything in line and under control. Though, with the slide of dirt is the downfall of this and you’re emotions. I remember reading that rocks/Boulders meant "commitment to a relationship” So, maybe with your dodging the Boulders could mean your dodging the commitment?

As you said that there is someone saying that you have to go back to find something (something of great importance) could mean that you cannot make this final transition until you find this thing. You never know you may find it in the house that you can’t find either. Though, because you said this place was a some what safe haven for you when you were younger... could maybe represent/mean your retreat or as you said when you felt lost. So what I get out of this dream would be that you’re basically on the transition for your old life to your new one. So you’re kind of in the middle. And to be able to complete the transition you need to find this thing that, that person was telling to look for. The rest I would assume is your emotion state through all of this. Like the Military, the slide of Boulders, water, and you dodging the Boulders. Though, whatever is on the other side of the hill like the creek, I’m guessing, means what is one the other side after you finish your journey .

Oh and you said, you’re exploring.. “Cautious and a bit afraid.” But I would guess you’re excited to see what your new life has in store for you.

well the hill you have mentioned is especially important to you. So the dream relates to moments when you WISH TO PRAY and have time to reflect. Yet the hill is on the move and sliding. So no doubt the dream comes at a time when you feel unable to have time to reflect and time to sit and think.
      ------------------------
Freud often used to connect dreams to fantasies. That is a rather negative way to look at dreams. In some cases the fantasies that we have get out of control and bear no relation to reality. In that case your dream may bring you back down to earth and will represent ways in which your fantasies are unrealistic. But in many cases its best to use the term motivating rather than fantasy. So for example if wake up with a highly positive dream where you are in your workplace and getting things done then you could see this dream as evidence of your own positive outlook. In real life look for signs of such the positive outlook. You may have been thinking about clearing away past failures or trying to connect and communicate better with people. In what ways did you lie awake thinking about the day to come and how things will be getting better soon.

I just can't believe how easily (it seems) you guys do this!

Dreams that have haunted me for years are beginning to make sense now.

      My heart is at rest.

In the dream, the ride to the top is bumpy. The jeep or whatever I'm riding in, is rocking and bouncing and I'm hanging on for dear life. I never seem to make it to the top, though...but yeah, I have seen the other side of the hill. Maybe I went around?

I usually get distracted before I get to the top...helping someone to hide from the military presence, stopping to chat with someone I see along the way. Fixing blown tires, etc.

I'm in a relationship, yeah. And in a way, I have been dodging commitment, so that part just sent cold little spiders crawling all over my back!

Thanks, guys! This has been very settling for me.
