Girl with purple ink steals dictionary

I am at a large university similar to the one I attended in college. There is a large thunderstorm and an announcement is made that everyone will have to stay for the night until it is safe to go home again. Not having anyplace to sleep, I go to sit at a cafeteria table to wait out the night. I also realize that my coat is missing. A young college age women, perhaps around 20 years of age, comes over the table and sits with me. I have a very large old dictionary and a small plastic tool box filled with small delicate instruments that I will need because the university has just hired me to do "odd jobs" around the campus. The young woman has purple marks all over her face and hands and I cannot tell if the marks come from purple ink or are from fresh bruises because she has been hit in the face. The young woman steals the dictionary and runs off, telling me that she will come back with it in only a few moments. Some time has passed and I decide to go to the "campus security" department to tell them about my dictionary has been stolen. They show little interest in helping me but ask if I still have my toolbox. I go back to the table I was sitting at and I find that my toolbox has been stolen as well. End dream.

Bingo! I think I know what the dream is about now. Somehow writing it down made it easier to understand... but I am still puzzled as to why the girl has purple marks on her face.

If you're at a college campus and somebody steals your dictionary - what does that mean?

      1. You consider someone else to be smarter than you?

      2. You do not fit into the university because you are easily pushed aside or stolen from?

      3. You are looking for rules from the university but these rules are easily broken or changed?

      4. You will fail if you feel you need a rule book?

      5. ?

This is a real "shot in the dark", but purple is a colour often associated with royalty. If you are indeed afraid of someone doing better than you (see the above poster) perhaps that has something to do with it?

      Another website talks about ink:

      http://www.brilliantdreams.com/dream...ctionary-d.htm

      Ink
To see ink spilled over one's clothing, symbolizes bitterness, spite and envy. To see ink on your fingers, signifies jealous and rage toward someone. To see bottles of ink in your dream, suggests that a solution to your problem will soon become apparent.

      Dictionary
To dream that you are using a dictionary, signifies that you rely too much on the opinions of others in the management of your own affairs.

Did you have a difficult time at college? It seems that you feel that you have lost something, some part of yourself, do you feel you could have done better at college and that circumstances and situations may have been the cause of you not doing as well as you had anticipated?

Yes. That is very accurate. But the details are still somewhat hazy. Why would the girl have purple marks on here face? Why would I have a "set of tools"? Would losing the tools mean I lost the way to do better at college?

I think I know what this means, now. When I was studying for a Masters Degree at Michigan State University I was hired to do a job as part of my student thesis. A month or so after I got hired, the professor who hired me decided he wanted to hire a girl who was younger and brighter than I was. This set in motion a 'competition' for the job and I was let go and the girl was hired in my place. After several months I dropped work on the thesis, because the professor who had hired also lost interest in helping me with the thesis.

I have often thought of trying to return to MSU to finish my Master's degree by starting a new project, but I don't know if this possible. I feel that not finishing the thesis means that I have failed and I will not be allowed to get my Master's degree because the university has rules about that. To make matters more compicated, the State of Michigan has announced that some college students who have not finished their degrees may return to finish them under a new state program. I am thinking about doing this but am afraid that something else will turn up that will cause me not to finish again.

I love the academic environment but I am tired of the dull, stupid people who seem to run it.

I have not read the other comments as I like to write fresh.
Your unconscious is focusing on the past which may be appropriate to what you are feeling now.
Your warmth or security to help you sleep is missing. You have to share a big class and this forces you to an uncomfortable table.
A young girl concerns you because she may be bruised there is no dialogue that you can remember?
Your view is the dictionary is more important than the tool kit for odd jobs. However, the Security view the tool kit is more important than the dictionary.
I am wondering if the dictionary represents written and the tool kit practical.

Yes. I am out of work and going through a difficult job hunt right now. I live in Detroit and I am going to have to move because the economy here is very, very poor.

      That makes sense.

Not really. I got the impression that the girl is a failure although she is very bright. She doesn't fit in or gets in fights very easily. She seemed very misdirected. Her bruises look like she got "beat up". Her hands looked "beat up" although the marks could have been more from purple ink than from damage.

Would that represent the more practical 'training' one is supposed to get at a college? The toolkit representing 'job skills'?

So in r/l you are trying to find a job.

Maybe the dream is playing on the word "Security", as in job security, security in the home etc. The security rests with what you defined as "job skills" not dictionary which I would see as more intellectual pursuits.

The young woman stole your intellectual pursuits (I read your prior posts). She wears purple ink on her hands and face. It appears she is bruised, maybe the young intellect played bruised. Purple can also be the colour of old copiers.

But now she does one more thing. She steals your job skills and ends your dream for you, leaving you in the air.

So what I want to do is talk to this young lady about her stealing. Security only wishes to talk to her about the job skills. That episode deeply damaged your confidence and she is now back there ruling your dreams also.

I am thinking now we have found the culprit, that maybe she might do us the courtesy of popping into your dreams and explaining herself. It would be nice she not play with the photocopier again. She can come as anyone or anything she likes but this time I want her to help you.

I am hoping as this resolves in your inner world that a good job will help brighten your day.

Yes, that is quite accurate. In the real life situation above, the girl who got hired about a month after I did copied ideas from me and would present them to the professor as her own.

Now I remember! When I was in grade school, many years ago, they used to make copies of handouts and assignments using something called "mimeograph". The mimeograph copies used ink that was a dark purple-blue color. So the girl has this old mimeograph ink smeared on her hands!

      http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mimeograph

The stencil duplicator, or mimeograph machine (commonly abbreviated to mimeo), along with spirit duplicators and hectographs were for many decades used to print short-run office work, classroom materials, and church bulletins. These technologies began to be supplanted by photocopying in the 1960s, although in mid-range quantities, mimeographs are still more economical than photocopiers. Photocopying and cheap offset printing have replaced mimeography almost entirely in developed countries.

So this purple ink could symbolise a number of things?

      A copy-cat.

Two time periods both to do with learning.

Bruises that were not real, but got rid of you and your pursuits.

Good luck with your job interview.

don't let one bad experience ruin it for you, you are older and wiser now and will probably be met with a different attitude as a mature student. This is obviously a big regret in your life and the longer you leave it the harder it will be to return to the college environment. I suggest you go for it, if it doesn't work out again, you can try again some later time in the future. But I agree I had the odd nutty professor, but it is part of lifes fabric to run into characters and obstacles and the achievement feels all the greater winning when the odds are stacked against you.
