Had my first dream in years - I really think I haven't been dreaming in a long time, or at least not dreaming anything of any complexity, because my first dream was two-dimensional - I was basically playing a retro computer game, but using my mind instead of the keyboard to control it. Nothing to reality check on, since I didn't even have a body; all I could see was the screen that worked in the predictable manner of computer games.

Some of it's already starting to fade... but the recurring part starts in a simple town with a large inn in the center, three small buildings on the left and a road to the next boss on the right. The building maps were part of the main map, not something separate. There was a hotspot between the inn and the road - it lit up when I got near it, and I got away fast. Didn't find out what it was until later. I went around it and headed down the road to the next boss, killing some enemies on the way - I recall that I selected weapons from a menu, and two of my options were a whip (that multi-targetted) and a gun. Some enemies that were stationary and shot bolts that pushed me around I never thought to kill - I think they were invincible, and part of the puzzle. I found my way to a big battle arena that looked like something out of Realmz and summoned some monsters, then went into battle. I lost a few times, reloading from a previous save point each time (the load game window didn't come up, so I suppose it was the mental equivalent of the "Return to previous save point" menu item). Eventually I was in a rut of fighting the boss, losing and returning to the inn, so I wasn't paying enough attention and I triggered the hotspot. I realized what I had done and rushed back into the inn.

A giant fan, about ten tiles in diameter, appeared outside between me and the road. It wasn't spinning, but when I walked around in it I got hurt.I ran away around the inn and it followed, turning just enough to roll toward me about half as fast as I ran. I pulled out the whip to attack it and see if I could hurt it, but then I woke up.
Ten years without a dream, now starting almost from scratch.

We're messing with our bodies on a very low level here - can we break them? What will it take to hurt ourselves?

A little nonsense now and then is relished by the wisest men.

Dream #2: Part of it was 3D, but it still had the feel of a computer adventure game. First part I remember I was walking through a maze, killing werewolves with either a straight knife or a curved knife (I recall using a magical helmet to switch between them, which one of my roleplay characters does). At some point a giant walked up and gave me a leather blanket - he had made it out of werewolf skin (I don't think that's really leather, but that's what the dream called it) and called it a "peace shield", which I took to mean a not-very-effective shield. Still, it protected me completely from the werewolves, which for some reason had no claws (they were really just humans, even though the dream called them werewolves).
Eventually I got the the end of the maze and went through a door into a place that was straight out of the game "Wyvern". Not bothering to check which weapon I was wielding, I killed the one monster (a weird frog-like thing) and collected the treasure. Then I think I left the maze and began discussing what I had jsut done, although I don't remember the end now.

I did not wake up for my alarm last night. I have woken up for my alarm every night in the past, but not last night. That puts dreaming in a bad light. Perhaps it's not worth the trouble...
I just have to make sure I get plenty of sleep before dreaming. Last night and the night before I basically forced it, but I stayed up till after midnight before going to bed.
