grrr, radio a barrier to recall

      hi guys

well this is only the second night that I've been trying to recall my dreams and write them down. Basically, my husband has the radio coming on in the morning (Radio 4, a British one with lots of intellectual debate, current affairs etc.). I chatted with him this morning about how it is a barrier to my dream recall when I wake up in the morning, but he is unwilling to change it - he says he needs that ( ) to wake up properly.

It's really hard to try and remember details when people are speaking in the background, try as I might I could still make out some of the words. Grrr. I think I might have to try ear plugs (although hubbie says they won't cut out voices?). I think we're a bit young for seperate rooms!! And he isn't budging - what can I do?

Incidentally, I woke up at 4.30am and thought "this would be a good time to try a WILD" but then I scared myself half to death with the thought of having another hypnogogic image like the one I had several years ago (a serpant). It wasn't scary at the time. I took it to mean that I'm not really ready, so I went back to sleep in the normal way. I think the best way for me to start out (once dream recall is better) is MILD - this is how I succeeded last time - just repeating before bed "when I see something odd I will realise I'm dreaming" (or something like that). And also looking at the palm of my hands in the dream, which snapped me into lucidity. It seems a less scary way of starting out - hypnogogic imagery could be a bit freaky if not mentally/emotionally ready for it.

Wait, you've never had hypnogogic imagery before the serpent thing????
I thought it was either me beeing crazy or a natural thing everybody had.
I have them regularly, they're never scary. Hardly ever they form into things. Always pulsating forms and motion, usually something in the form of a ring that starts big and purple then becomes smaller and goes yellow/green... ever since I was a small child. I think your serpent was perhaps one step further from hypnagogic imagery, it was an actual dream or something... because its supposed to look somewhat similair to closing your eyes in the dark, and then apply mild pressure to your eyes and then release it... you'll see funky stuff too.

Anyway about the radio, tell him that it really matters to you and ask him to turn it off when he wakes up from it...

      hey there CT

yeah I've had that kind of thing definitely. And I THINK that when I was v. small toddler I must have got it too as I used to see cartoon figures moving around on my white wall. I've also had it where the radio or something goes all weird. But this was a full on serpent, beautiful. I wasn't scared of it even though it raised it's head right beside the bed (and my head). It was so cool, a very cherished memory. The book I said says hypnagogic imagery can become fully formed like this, it's hard to say whether you're asleep or awake (I felt awake) but then, in a WILD, isn't that how you do it? (asleep body, awake mind that never goes to sleep).

It must be hard sharring a bed with someone! You could try thick ass earplugs, earmuffs, pillows, fingers, or even hands over your ears...ask Seeker more about what he does, cause he also is married, and has this problem of disturbance! (not saying its a bad thing!)

haha! I'll ask Seeker then! I've even been dreaming scenarios (non lucid) where there are reasons why he can't have the radio on!! (one of them was: we shared a room with a weird local ). On Sunday morning I was soo happy, hubbie put the radio off when I asked (different at the weekend) and I recalled practically a whole dream, HURRAY!!

This morning I did the fingers in my ears thing - I recalled some of my dream but it still got a bit in the way. Perseverance will get me there though!

Is That what hypnagogic imagery is? I thought it was subconcius images surfacing.
