too long and complex to write them down

      Hi.

I am still in the stage of dream recall, but the more dreams I recall the longer and more complex they get (or thats the impression I get) so it is taking me more and more time to write all of the details I remember. Last time I had a dream so long that I could have written four pages on both sides, but I was so tired I wasnt up to write that ammount of information.

Is there an appropiate lenght and detail ammount for dreams in the dream diary?. Can I get away with writting the dream in more general terms?.

Actually you will benefit from describing them in as much detail as possible. Even the most insignificant thing at the time you write it down can have value in after time. But i see what you mean. I also have a hard time writing everything down sometimes, so then i just describe the dream in general terms. Often as little as one sentence. But this ive found out to be a bad habit, so im working on again describing in as much detail as i can, cause there are so much details!

Writing down a couple lines of key terms is a good idea: at least you wont lose the dream and it doesnt take much time.

Sometimes if I have an "epic" dream, usually involving magic or some really cool ideas, I write it down with more detail...

      Hiya monlite!

The fact that your recall seems to be getting more detailed is a very good sign indeed! I agree with Jammy that it is to your benefit to describe them in as much detail as possible, but it's certainly understandable that there will be times when you just don't feel like you can make the effort, or don't have the time to do it. Just do the best you can. The fact that you are recalling your dreams in more detail is a huge step toward lucidity, and I'm sure you'll find a happy medium in journaling your dreams. Good luck!

wow thats cool. sounds like me in the pre weed days. ..must...stop...smoking...cant....stop....DAMN YOU. seriously 4 pages of info is the best recall you can have at this point. i had that but now i barley can write down what was said in the dreams. BUT i am managing to get better recall the more i get into it again now. recall probably wouldnt matter if i could just stick it out when i start a wild damnit! lol

you should really try spotting a few of your dream signs and work it into some reality checks to get lucid. that or work on some ILD's i mean thats some good recall u got there bud! cool!

      Hi Monlite,

You may want to pick up a voice activated tape recorder to keep by your bed. I have the same problem as you and have just been writing down abbreviations of my dreams or only the ones that were interesting. Now I have experienced crappy recall of late. I have a recorder, and it captures even more of the emotion (emotion in the voice) of the dream than writing does. I just need to get more tapes. Check this out, I don't know about you, but my writing after I just wake up is like a hybrid of my English and Farsi.

Or instead of a tape recorder, get a tiny little MP3 player with a recording function! :D There is cheap ones out there that does its job if you're only going to record, then maybe write them down later.
