      Angry Dream sign confusion.

I have a question on my mind after reading something about dream signs.....

Laberge says that the whole point of having dream signs is to recognize them and become lucid. We all know this.

But the thing is when I'm reading the dream sign chapter he doesn't really talk about reality checks that much....I mean he does but he doesn't really STRESS to do RCs when you see something related to your dream sign. He only says to train yourself to recognize to your dream sign, how exactly are you supposed to do that?

For example, here's a quote from the book: "So, if you awake from a dream in which you failed to notice that the friend you were talking to has been dead for years, you must firmly resolve that if you ever see that person again, you will realize that you are dreaming" See what I mean? he doesn't say do a RC whenever you're reminded of your friend, so how are we supposed to resolve to recognize this the next time, do we tell ourselves over and over again during the day that we won't be fooled again??

      Ugh, I hate being confused.
      Lucid dreams, gotta love em.

I think with his example, seeing a dead friend, should become your Reality Check. He uses another example (not sure if it's same book) about a little girl who kept having nightmares about sharks in her local lake. He told her that next time there's a shark then she would know she was dreaming. This proved successful for the girl and the presence of the dreamsign (sharks) was her Reality Check.

For other dreamsigns, like typical things that happen IRL, I would suggest a RC.

Hi I haven't read the book although I do have an e version of it on my comp somewhere.... But from experience, to have a successful dreamsign RC connection...the person must find a logical reason that connects the dreamsign with the RC. Like for example the purpose of LDing may be to drive a ferarri. So IRL whenever U see a ferarri U'll have to do an RC because that's the reason Y Ur doing it for...so that U can become lucid to drive a ferrari.

      Hey there,

Don't underestimate the psychological effect of simply being 'aware' of something. Even if you don't do RC's, it can still be very beneficial to you to check your dreams and find the dreamsigns within, simply to know what they are, and be aware of them.

Additionally, I find that in dreams (and in matters of the mind in general), things don't always have their effect immediately. There's a delay sometimes.

In my opinion, just because a dreamsign during your dream doesn't immediately make you go 'Oh I'm dreaming!' doesn't mean it cannot have an effect either. It may well increase your overall dreamawareness a bit. Get enough of these dreamsigns in a row and they might push you over the edge and 'go lucid', so to speak.

So above all, to me, the most important step is not telling myself that I will recognise a dreamsign, but rather being aware of what my dreamsigns are.

      Just my 2 dreamycents,

      Great response River.

I also feel that being AWARE of your dream sign is the most important thing, I mean yea doing RCs is good and everything but it's not all based on that, and that was the whole point of my thread.

It's weird cause once I get familiar with my dream signs...they stop appearing in my dreams, which is kinda frustrating.
      Lucid dreams, gotta love em.
