      Confusion about Dream Signs

Just was a little confused about them and had a question. Are Dream Signs things that make you actually realise you're dreaming, or just things that commonly appear? I realise if they commonly appear that would lead to hopeful realisation, but which is it? Or is it both?

To me, a dreamsign is anything that's out of the norm. whether it's common in your dreams or not. Though the common ones are easier to recognize.

And no, you don't have to recognize it and get Lucid for it to be a dreamsign.
everyone misses many dreamsigns every night.

Hi, yes it can be confusing. Dreamsigns work on how U program them to work for U. Some people become lucid when the dreamsign they use is an anomaly...something odd like flying elephants or talking animals..etc and they remember it's not normal and realise they are dreaming. Some use the dreamsign as a reminder to check their reality and they become lucid. Generally dreamsigns can be anything as long as U recognize it in the dream...IMO it does not matter how often U see it but more importantly can U recognize it when it appears in reality and the dream. But it would help if the dreamsign U choose is not too mundane...something that sticks out among the crowd so U'll notice it better even in reality U'll notice it..

I think of dreamsigns as simply things that are common in my dreams. Some are very out of the ordinary (plane malfunctions, nuclear explosions), others fairly common (running late to an appointment, being stuck at the airport).

By realizing common situations, people or places in my dreams, I can be more attuned to the possibility that I'm dreaming when one comes up. This is especially true for those that occur somewhat regularly in real life, since I get the practice of thinking "this is just like a dream," and allow myself to consider the question. The 2 (maybe 3) lucid dreams I've had all came from a situation like this where I was in a situation I had already identified as a dream sign.
