      Which RCs are best?

I've been doing the watch RC for a while, but it just won't stick. What i need is an easy, fast RC that is very effective. So, what works best for you?

      the nose

I do the nose test more often than the others in my dreams, so it's the one I do in RL.

Look at hands is pretty easy. Memory check, nose plug, finger through palm. Those three I use also.

Something like asking yourself do you know why are you ' here ' , do you remember what have you don previously, or do you know what are you going to do? Are you supposed to be 'here'?
If you cant answer those questions you are dreaming.

Anyway i use nose-pinch and poke-hand RC, those are really easy.

I've gone through almost every method possible, and I have to say, checking my hands has easily been the most effective. It's given me almost all my lucid dreams, as it's very easy to notice extra fingers, and it becomes a regular habit pretty quickly. Remember to always ask yourself "am I dreaming?", oftentimes, a reality check isn't enough. Hope this helps.

No matter what you do, there are two things you have to remember.
      1) you have to find an RC that works for YOU, not anybody else.
      2) You actually have to put conscious thought into all of your RC's. If you do them out of mindless habit, they probably won't work.

Also, you have to believe. I never had any luck getting the nose plug RC to work, but after becoming lucid, I tried it to stabilize the dream, and it worked like a charm.

That said, my absolute favorite is the watch RC. It's easy, discreet, takes less than 3 seconds to do, and it's never failed me. Basically, you look at your watch (must be digital) and see if what's on the face makes sense. If it does, try to make the numbers move with your mind. If you can't, memorize the time, look away, and then look back at it. If the numbers have changed, you're dreaming. If not, you're probably awake. Plus, I take my watch off for maybe one day every two months. I even have a watch tan.

You plug your nose with your fingers and see if you can breathe through it. If you can breathe with your nose plugged, you're either breathing through your mouth or dreaming.

Counting my fingers on either hand has always worked for me. Aswell as trying to poke through my hand with my thumb. The latter one failed me tonight for the first time though :/ but I was like zombie-lucid then. Must've lost my brain somewhere along that dream

The times I've gotten lucid were from looking at my fingers.

Yeah, the RCs that work best for me are not the same as the ones that work best for others.

I haven't really been able to find a guide that mentions this, but what I did was I tested all of the candidates, and found which ones proved most obviously that I was dreaming.

My reality check just backfired on me!

For the past couple of weeks I've been training myself to look at my hands as my RC. I told myself to check for my wedding ring because I never take it off. So if I looked at my hands but didn't see it, that would be a pretty good sign I was dreaming.

Last night I actually managed to do it: I intentionally looked at my hands.

... Only to see a crumbling wedding ring that was missing its diamond and emeralds!

So I don't know if that means I'm making progress or if it was an epic reality check FAIL.

I think your makin progress for sure. The condition of your ring was a good dreamsign.
I like to try impossible things with my hands as an RC. Always with care, I will try to lift a desk with one finger or trail my fingers through objects like walls. If you can do these things you know it is time to have some real fun.

I like to do the nose pinching and poking my finger through my hand, but the nose one has gotten me all my DILD'S so far.

Well sorry to say but I can't say for sure. Its really what works best for you. Theres a few good ones at this site ( just scroll down until you see them all) http://www.consciousdreaming.com/luc...ucid-dream.htm

I've used the palm-and-fingers method (which is you press your fingers into your oppisite palm. If it bends or goes through then you know you'll be dreaming) Unfortunately this method fails for me, but not all reality checks are 100% likely to work. In my dream it still behaved like a solid. So I'll need to find another one that works for me. Currently I'm doing the gravity check. I simply jump up to try and fly. Look a bit retarted so try and do it when no one is looking!

Just remember, when doing reality checks, ask yourself if you are dreaming, do your reality checks then make a decision, don't instantly dismiss your dreaming.

!! I noticed you said tel'aran'rhoid !! Did you read this from the Wheel of Time? I'm reading that at the moment. I've been meaning to try and get there in there when LDing. How did you experience it?

I just do it when ever I feel like it. Some days I do 15-20 RC's in one day and some days I only do 4 or 5. Also whenever I see something weird or think can this be a dream I decide to RC.

One thats worked for me a few times was looking at a persons clothes in the dream, looking away and then seeing if they looked different the second time, they tend to change colour. I hadn't planned to do this check, I just randomly thought of it in the dream as I was thinking very clearly.

All my lucids have come from plugging my nose. As you become better you'll notice that you're lucid BEFORE the reality check, the RC just confirms it. It's a great feeling.

The reality checks that help me become lucid the most are the nose plug test and the hand RC. However, sometimes, I've missed becoming lucid in dreams because I couldn't tell if I was breathing or I didn't count the fingers on my hand correctly. Anyways, I agree with the other posters, it's all about what works best for YOU, and I'm sure you'll soon find an RC that works for you.
Lucid dreaming makes for a wonderful night's play.
