      Alarm Clock

I always wake up to an alarm clock, which means I have to get up and turn it off. This means I can't lie in bed and recall my dream. Any suggestions?

Do You have a phone? I find setting my phone on vibrate And using it as an alarm works wonders. You don wake up to the constant blaring, and its just a button push away!

I think I'd probably worry too much about falling back asleep. I even do that sometimes after getting up to turn the alarm off (I fall asleep on the couch). Maybe if I wake up a bit early and just sit on the couch for recall or something..

with an iphone you can buy the app "relax alarm" for $3.99 ---
set "medition" sound, very tranquil~~~, and then just shake it to quiet it, and then.... also set it on snooze, so it will ring gently at the new time as well...

ps i have seen others write about special dream alarms if getting a new phone isn't in your plans!

What I did from going from my loud alarm is every night since I have been practicing LDing I have been lowering the volume. Right now I am at a volume level that I don't wake up right away but I distantly hear the sound in my dream so once I hear it I know to stay in the dream for a few more seconds and recall during the end of my dream. Kinda sucks though because at that point in your dream you know your dreaming but don't have time to do anything once lucid because the noise doesn't stop.

that's gotten me thinking... i'd love to get one of those alarms that just lights up to wake you up! or... where the sound would come on very slowly at first. surely we can program stuff like this, right? so we have time to recall stuff.
      anyone have one of these?

Well, I've found that alarm clocks generally take my recall and smash it to a pathetic, bloody pulp. So, I've started to go to bed earlier and now, my body automatically wakes me up before my alarm goes off (sometimes up to thirty minutes before), so I lie in my bed and think about my dreams until I can remember enough to log them. Oftentimes, throughout the course of the morning, I remember other snippets of my dreams, and so I scribble those down on a piece of paper, like a post-it or something, and I add it to my Dream Journal later that day.

So, you can try to go to bed earlier, which will give you more sleep, and eventually you'll get up before your alarms go off. It takes a little bit of time before your mind lets you do this, but it will happen eventually. OR... If you don't think you can go to bed earlier, you can try to get one of those alarms that everyone else is talking about... but my way is cheaper!!!
      ...And then to dream...

Hmm.. going to bed early doesn't really work for me... I function better at night than in the morning, so that's when I get things done. Over the summer, I was going to bed at around 6:00 in the morning, just because I was getting a lot done overnight.
