[INTRO/DC-1] Vester's Workbook

OK so, first of all as I am unsure as to what exactly to put in and this here contains a hell of a lot more comments than my normal DJ, I am working hard on WILDing atm so I will put special attention and analysis into this progress currently if that is fine by everyone.

Here are all my dreams and reflections as they have occured over the past 24 hours.

18-08-10 Prior to the DVA I was having recurrent fragmented dreams about the upcoming class and forum activity. A lot of lucid people seemed to pre-cginitively reply to my thoughts and trying to help me get lucid. I kept falling behind in the class. I was aware that I was dreaming although repeatedly I woke up before getting into the dream(s). Each awakening and attempting going back to sleep kept returning me to the starting point, I reality checked it all and I was indeed awake. The residue was depicted by the forums and IRC.

I don't count these, but I want to get the descriptions on paper to clarify my understanding on levels of awareness. Were these dreams somehow level 0.5 or just too much involvement with hallucinations? I have not mentioned these types of dreams prior, but in order to increase awareness and potentially get help on how to get past this I think it is about the right place and time to describe the phenomena. These fragmented dreams and continuous awakenings have severely disturbed my pre-WILD sleep for the past 3 days (since I had my WILD experience) and they have been the source of much frustration. However now I am a bit more aware of the details that are disturbing my WILD preps instead of just assigning blame to lack of sleep. Could me starting to work again remove the focus I have had on dreaming as I feel somewhat pressured by it?

Before going on to detail the post-WILD attempt dreams I on this date I will briefly describe the pre-sleep (although I attempted to WILD directly) dreams of the nightfall of 18-08-10 (The above were during night time) as there seem to be similarities to be explored.

18-08-10 Pre-WILD dream. I was in a huge gunfight watching over Sam and Dean Winchester (aye I had indeed just watched a couple of episodes of Supernatural, so there is the residue source). In a similar fashion to the IRC/DVA descriptions the dream kept resetting, although there is a minor improvement in the fact that I didn't actually wake up in between. I kept switching from Sam to Dean and kept telling them “I am remote viewing this!”(I was aware it wasn't real) every reset would include the wave of demons coming in attacking from further away from the opposite side. Call it demon juggling if you wish.

What I became aware of after waking up, when I gave up on entering a more stable version of the dream, was that I was solidly convinced that there were two mes. This was difficult to shake even when I tried WILDing again. I know I am supposed to sleep prior to the attempts, but somehow can't seem to help myself to just try another time. This might be good or bad and I could really use some input on this.

18-08-10 Post DVA dreams. I was on a boat either the one the dream was centred around or a different one in close proximity. On the boat in focus (a cruise ship of a kind) there would be a lottery where the lucky winner would go to see the bridge of the ship. The person whose name was called would have his name in purple (IRC type interface). In some way a plan had already been plotted about what we had to do if my name was called, although I only knew of the plan, none of the details. Eventually my name was called and I went to the bridge, where I sort of transformed into IRC interface (try conceptually and imagine this, cause it makes MY head hurt ^^). Through the interface I saw that I had 90.000 credits that had to be distributed wether by giving them to bidders or winners, however I had no idea on how to do this and a queue (in the interface) assembled. At this time I saw some detailed 2D drawings of the ships course and relative position to the harbour, although the plans were drawn on paper they kept updating themselves regularly. We were close.

There was a shift in the dream and I am now part of a group of 4 or 5 all dressed in black. The boat still figures vaguely, but only in the back of the mind and I have no idea as to the connection to the current state of the dream. We have an elderly leader who is instructing us to go and learn some old school fighting styles, although I tell him it is obsolete compared to what we now know (I would love to know what it was I in fact knew!).

There is another shift and now I am assisting Stan from Southpark in planning and executing the murder of someone. We dress up in a donkey costume and I conceal a knife up my sleeve prior to putting the outfit on. Just before the act I wonder if I can even access this knife within the costume, so I check if it is still there and find out that I can pull it from where it is. Then I stand and repeatedly stab a stuffed version of Kyle, and although I know he is stuffed it feels like killing all right (NB: I don't know how it feels to kill someone IRL ^^).

As to the assignment:

Residue: Primarily takes the form of obsession to IRC, forums and Supernatural however there could also be some remote residue in the boat experience connected to Serenity's descriptions of Moon Sailor, as I had an image of a ship while reading about it in the chat.

Faulty logic: I can kill stuffed cartoons, no really they DIE although I know (even at the time) that they were never alive. Real time updates on 2D paper, yeah right! Not sure if this counts as faulty logic, but the fact that I can exist as a chat program is certainly off the rails!

False Memories: Not as such in the above mentioned dreams, although this is why I asked if these can sometimes take on a deja vu quality. For instance I am aware that a plan has been set in motion in the event that my name gets called. I recall knowing about the historic site midway on the train travel, although it doesn't exist. In general I remember that there is an idea, but I never focus too much attention to what the idea actually is (I am sort of like that IRL, so might be worth training on recalling details of ideas to increase the possibilities of detecting signs).

It sounds similar to when I have something pressing on my mind... or if i have to wake up early for something, and I'm afraid to miss it.

It kind of sounds like you were incubating the dream, or influencing the content, by being so concerned with becoming lucid...

However, you may be waking up all the time because you're too stressed out about it? Does this sound correct?

I get that a lot too. If I don't sleep well before the WILD, it's actually just better for me to call off the attempt entirely, because I KNOW I won't get to sleep during the WILD. The thing to remember is, you need to have a certain amount of NREM sleep before it starts to shorten, and REM starts to lengthen (there is a class dedicated to sleep cycles coming up, but I'll explain it briefly here).

We sleep in 90 minute cycles.

Cycle one: 90 minutes of sleep. REM phase probably only lasts about 5 minutes of this cycle (meaning 85 minutes of NREM).

Cycle two: 3 hours of sleep. NREM time decreases and REM starts to increase. Times vary person to person, night to night :P But an estimate is REM is perhaps 10-20 minutes long now.

Cycle three: 4.5 hours of sleep. REM is probably over 30 minutes now. This is why it is suggested to attempt WILDs between 5-6 hours of sleep. You want longer REM periods :)

I'm by no means an expert on the subject on if or if not one should attempt a WILD... but based on personal experience, if I have issues with sleeping before, it's not going to happen.

Over all, it sounds like you may be stressing out a little too much on becoming lucid, and it's keeping you awake :( Which, you might agree with me, is counter-productive :)

It sounds like you're into practicing WILDs, though, so I'll tell you what I noticed for me.

When I sleep a solid 4.5-5 hours, I get up and I attempt my WILD. I attempt it for an entire hour. If you find you drift off to sleep too quickly to make the hour, try to stay up for a little bit longer. Write out your dream journal entry and maybe do some math or word problems to wake up your logical part of your brain. If you're still worried you'll drift off too easily, set alarms for certain intervals (say like 5-10 minutes for the hour-long duration).

You may find that after focusing on the WILD for the hour, even if it fails, once you go back to sleep for the remainder of the night, you'll have a lucid dream. It happens to me :)

If you wake up too easily, you could try what I do. I wake up at the 4.5 mark, and I got to the washroom. I go back to sleep for one hour (the point is to interrupt REM, so I can induce SP faster). I use a snooze alarm for the next 60 mins, in case I accidentally fail the WILD and fall asleep without awareness.

Nice and productive answer and I recognise a lot of it, now check out what happened after about an hour of pre-sleep (the reason I awoke and am on the forums at this godforsaken hour anyways ^^).

although I repeatedly commanded myself to try and not attempting WILD, I couldn't help myself completely and after rolling over a couple of times repeating to myself to just get some sleep this is what happened :D

19-08-10 I woke up in my bed, after a few jolted and fragmented dreams like mentioned before. But this time it was different. I felt the same tingly sensation all over my body that I remember from my first WILD, I quickly started loosing control as everything was dark and there was nothing to see. I shouted “Woow wow, get back here” did a little jump and reached out for the ground while spinning. I mentally said to myself I need light, I needed to see and start using my senses in order to stabilise the dream. I couldn't keep the lights switched on they kept turning off. After a while the light stabilised a bit and I started focusing on the mess on my floor, loads of colours and clothes everywhere (like it is in real life) except there was an old pair of shoes I no longer posses (now I know where to look if I should be fortunate enough to have another Lucid before the end of August ^^). I decided though that the idea of cleaning my room in a lucid dream was a bit of a waste so I walked into the hallway remembering now to smell, touch and try and look around. ARGH damn lights, what good is it to be mentally able to turn them on/off if they won't stay on!!! I started loosing the tingling sensation in my body and was afraid I was about to wake up, so I did a quick check and reached out with my hand and made an empty Coke bottle fly into it.. Telekinesis, check.. still dreaming. I walked to my coffee table, that admittedly was slightly in the wrong place and made sure I caressed it and felt out for the edges and corners (something I reminded myself about when awake, at work considering writing a small explanation on Schemata, from an old presentation I have lying around). In the lounge it was dawn although it had been dark night in my sleeping room (didn't think anything of it, the DAMN DAMN lights were still way too dim!!). I tried to remember the goals I had set myself and these needed DCs so I decided to take to the streets, also knowing there would be street lights. I flew out my kitchen window (which has now become my new favourite exit place need to remember to turn it into a portal at some point). Hovered around and looked in the same direction, as where the woman appeared the last time I tried to ask a DC my dream name. There were no people, but a simply fantastic (although small) Siberian husky came down the street towards me. I landed and sat on the ground calling out “come here boy” in a friendly tone and as he came I started cuddling him behind the ears. I was aware that the visual and tactile sensations of cuddling this dog was helping me stabilise the dream, and besides the dog loved it (I will get back to just how much in a bit ^^). I looked over his shoulder and I saw that woman's back as she turned a corner. “stop” I shouted, and took off flying after her, the dog followed. I thought to myself I could grab a quick dream flirt ^^. As I came around the corner I saw a door leading slightly downwards, the type of door that leads to a corridor under the building(s) commonly associated with the university structures. I flew through it, the dog followed (didn't pay any attention to the dog's control ability till after having booted up the PC to write down the dream). As I flew through these corridors I several times flew through doors, which I have never been able to before (the dog followed). And midway through I noticed the dog jumping up and down, either he wanted more attention or thought it was as fun a game as I did. Now that I was confident in my abilities to fly through matter, although not being able to see through, I flew up through the walls at an angle and the dog followed until I reached a café of sorts. The dog disappeared, but the woman was queuing up to get seated. The café had a professional feel to it and the surrounding buildings in quality seemed governmental. I said “hi” to which she replied “hi and goodbye” which I found very odd, although I didn't treat her like other DCs in the past, to whom I would say “youre in my head, this is my dream”. I wanted to talk to her and start the whole flirting plan I had in mind, but she kept refusing me although she was smiling while walking away. I must have asked her why she refused me, as she said something like “I don't know it just seemed rude since I wasn't going to get anything to eat” I asked “why is that?” and she seemed stunned by the question and as she was about to answer... I woke up >.<

Notes: I had similar returning dreams (day residue, loads of wooden scrap from me tearing down a house, don't worry I get paid to do it, kept falling, making sounds all over the shop) where I would wake up and find myself returning to the beginning of these dreams, but instead of thinking more of them, this time I actually kept commanding myself to go to sleep, just normal sleep. Towards the beginning of the dream I found my alertness climbing and had a bit of a “damn why do you have to start awaken, when you are in fact not trying to WILD anymore, and just want some well overdue sleep!?!?” I kept rolling over tossing and turning until the final awaken state with my body buzzing and humming.

And it suddenly struck me that I had tried to stay completely awake during the past three attempts. Defo gonna pay more attention to these very rapidly shifting dreams and try to keep calming myself to fall asleep

Sooooo pleased I managed to stabilise the dream as that had been a non-verbalised dream goal of mine =D. On a side note, I want to talk to that woman now, find out who she is, also might be a way for me to face my fears of rejection. And that dog, well I wanna know more about him as well, if he wanna hang around for cuddles, finds it interesting to fly through matter and have the power to stabilise my dreams.. well isn't that a win-win?

I think it was more like you describe that it was a Lucid after trying to WILD. Never experienced SP, though there was no particular break between the fragemented stuff and the lucid itself. Anyways it is a technicality, hopefully I can just use the experience of letting fragmented torn dreams wash over me, remain calm, focus on my breath and use it as a method for inducing lucids. The primary difference when awakening in the dream was the bussy sensation in my body and I noticed it soon enough to not just try and go back to sleep. (actually did a hand RC that I forgot to mention in the original post)

Now I will try and take on your other advice regarding getting to the longer REM periods (assuming I can even replicate this success ^^) without falling into temptation of trying to WILD =P, as this was a fairly short dream.

BORING DAYTIME NOTE; NO NEED TO READ!

After my dream this night I was so excited I couldn't go back to bed. So I ended up driving out for work 4 hours later, feeling VERY tired. Luckily my boss had just given me the instruction to arrive at some point during the day (I am very lucky^^). I went to the bakery in which my sister work, bought some food and drove to my parrents place to eat it. They had forgotten to put out the key so I had no toppings (DAMN THEM =P) and ended up eating in the car. I decided to take a nap and ended up sleeping 2 hours in the car (with a snooze alarm going on every 10 mins). Didn't dream, which would have been funny to report though, but just wanted to note down how good it felt to get that little amount of rest in. Also I recognised that it was like I got even more rest than during 2 hours of aforementioned irratic dreaming. I seriously need to not attempt ANYTHING tonight, was my end epiphany ^^

Congratz on your WILD! As our teacher said, your lucid was very nice, my first and only one ended on a very, very little lucidity on a dream (and crappy recall bonus xD). Good luck on your coming WILD attempts!

Thanks for reply! Yes when WILDing you MUST fall asleep! My first WILD I mentioned was when I tried for the first time to fall asleep! I tried the Yoshi techniqe with the counting method. Damn when I turned, my couting seemed to get completely lost! Then I think I fell asleep, but I gained counsciousness when it kicked in. It was like an alarm or something. My SP feeling is very distinguible! Its very smooth really, its only the sensation of being pulled from your back, thats why I feel Im on my back, when Im on my side! If you arent an expert that doesnt bother, I appreciate all kind of help :) Now I wasnt chasing SP, but in my SP experiences I transition from SP to dream very quickly! But it skips very fast! I kinda entered SP three times yesterday in the same time! I can only bring it but I just cant "stabilize" it time enough to reach a lucid. Maybe thats because I am amazed by the pulling feeling... I will try not to feel it. Hmm day journaling helps WILDing?

Ooh, the reminded me of an odd experience I had today when I woke up from one of my dreams (might have been the WILD, which I did actually accomplish, but was a crappy quality again :P)...

Anyways, I woke up literally tingling all over. Arms, legs, torso... such an odd sensation.

On the first Nap WILD I did it was in my spine, like a surge of energy was rushing back and forth.. I felt a tremendous amount of heat (it sort of felt like I was melting my bed) otherwise the energetic surges can be described as rubbing your spine against am old-school washboard, in a pleasant way and there was a very distinct humming sound, it was loud, but somehow not intrusive.

Actually don't know if it does, the primary thing I am paying attention to is the fact that when I have had these shaky fragmented dreams, that I am not resting (almost at all!!). This could have some implications in trying to reach later REM stages for a longer more stable dream.

2 hours of sleeping in a car with a constant snooze alarm seemed to provide more rest than the irratic sleep I have been getting trying to WILD without pre-sleep (and have experienced during my sleep sessions over the past couple of days). Think the importance for me was to reitterate not to try too hard on WILDing (at least not all the time) as it could cause some serious problems via sleep deprivation.

Have no idea if it is of relevance, my intuition tells me it is ^^

Okies, my apologies everyone for missing out on class yesterday, really needed to get some uninterrupted sleep and still do (damn temptaion of attempting WILDs :P).

As for the chat log and assignments I will start highlighting dream signs and jog down the few I am already aware of:

A: Dreaming about my old work, or friends from my time in England
(These friends often turn up in dreams connected to current day residue)
Action: RC everytime I see them on facebook!

B: Trains and train travel
Action: RC everytime trains, travel, bus plans etc. are within close proximity and I am aware of them (RC now for thinking about a bus!)

C: Being naked in public spaces
Action: start RCing evertyime I have a shower or go to the bathroom (with includes looking at my hands anyways)

D: Spirits/Ghosts
Action: I watch a lot of series with these elements and I already RC frequently during these things, in fact ghosts and spirits is my most succesful method of induction.

E: Electrical storms
Don't think I wanna induce full on lucidity, as these tends to carry important messages about upcoming changes in my life.

F: Hornslet
(The town in which I was raised)
Action: I do go to this place quite often to visit my parents, so I will increase the frequency of RCs when there or thinking about the place (RC NOW!)

20-08-10 Had a nap, tried to WILD, Terrible recall something about Supermosters and normal monsters with another dreamer, definitely flight involved, just rubbish really.. but should still jog it down as a fail.

Was extremely tired, can't even remember focusing on my breath.. Damn, must have passed out within a minute or so :P

2 hours worth of sleep, defo a good thing in my current state, will make a serious 5-6 hours pre-sleep WILD attempt tonight.

Thank god the weekend is here, have never looked forward to a Friday dedicated to sleeping before :lol:

NB: I seemed to remember being lucid and the above words, but I also remember remembering a lot more of the dream right after it occurred. Midway through the nap I wake up and remove my earplugs and start sleeping again immediately, there is a lesson for you Vester son, write em down immediately!!!

I found a couple of dreamsigns I wasn't completely aware of as before.

Dream signs:

High/early school friends
Action: RC them on Facebook

Acting on aggression
(Only in dreams to I truly live and act upon aggression, the malice I can produce in dreams have been keeping me from having children, as I am not sure humanity would benefit should this be genetic and the child unable to control it as I can)
Action: RC every notion of aggression (I quite like this one, makes you stop and think everytime you feel anger and can potentially induce lucids :D)

Being chased in Woods
Action: Pay attention to trees, a RC doesn't hurt!

Boats?

A couple of notes.

The dormant acts of cruelty that I can prduce scare the crap out of me, I am indeed my own worst enemy.:holyshit:

I am pleased that my choice of speaking the truth as a way of life (vox veritas vita), is starting to become scuh a big part of me that I rely on the moral codec in my subconscious, as well.

After having decided I was awake, I felt really happy, as I have lost my phone (and alarm clock) today. Waking up to describe the dream provides a natural WBTB attempt and besides I don't want to not sleep at the moment as I am quite deprived as it looks, YAY body and mind, you have done me yet another great favour! :cheeky:

Doing drugs in dreams and feeling the effects in the dream AND after effects when waking up OMG! :banana: wonder if this would happen if I didn't know how any of the effects felt?

And finally the best part (No seriously!) I am becomeing able to reproduce sounds mentally, both in dreams and IRL from experimenting with dreaming (have been doing it 2-3 years prior to joining the forums) My auditory skills have been zero to none, but for some reason they are awakening!!! If others have had similar success like this, there could be a justification in "dream works" being a perfectly valid masters thesis!!! However this might also be a product of awareness training...

Fragmented at best - Dream Journals - Dreamviews Lucid Dreaming Community & Resource

Was weird yesterday. I woke up at aprox 01:20, about an hour's pre-sleep, still don't have an alarm clock, so thought screw it I'll make an attempt now. I tried a new approach as the last 3 have been weak and provided as close to nothing as ever. I describe my new approach here.

It worked better, had some SP ecperiences, but I was still focusing too much on the mantra "just go to bed" without actually intending it fully. So I ended up focusing too much on awareness again, considering my intentions with the new approach was not to. I felt very tired before trying but after 45-50 minutes of failing, going to the PC to jog down the experience, I felt very relaxed and extremely aware (I stayd awake from 02:20 till about 08:30!) which I found extremely odd considering how tired I was prior the attempt. At least I have recollection of my intentions, I tried to persuade myself to fully intend to go to sleep midway, with limited succes. I did reach partial SP, so I suppose there was some sort of development.

In regards to the dreams I actually did have, there were loads of Dream Signs (TV Shows, Trains, Trees, Dream Journals). On a possitive note I do remember paying special attention to a tree at a point during the dream, but not enough to RC. When I RC in real life a few moments, like 20-30 secs can pass before I remember to RC, which is just too long in dreams, so maybe I should focus on becoming swifter at carrying them out.

23-08-10 3 fragmented stuff. Mathias Amdi paying for a pizza, in a swimming pool talking to a very cool penguin/shark/hedgehog in a pool :bang:, one of my friends stroke it and I think it is weird to stroke a soft jelly type animal, it might also have been a jelly fish. A female friend of mine discover she has a camera that can film under water and also link up with a receiver to provide live streaming (I am dumping the universal dream sign of technology not working for me period!). I wanna pay for the pizza I give 100 kroner, when the final prise is 85, so Amdi and I talk about sorting it out. Something about an after party we have to attend. Something about the airport? Many women following around, I seem to know them all. Something about me not being able to take on a pair of diving glasses under water.

I remember remembering a hell of a lot more, all over the shop dream switches back and forth a lot of times. Did wake up early morning decided not to get up, in order to get loads of sleep. Did try to WILD but was way too tired. Have to work today. This will be my last day so I can focus more on dreaming. I was lying in bed for quite some time drifting in and out of sleep after the dreams, could be why I can't remember them.

PS: Will add the complete list of dreamsigns and the actions I have planned when I get back from work!

Here is my list of dream signs along with the actions I have installed. Overall I need to be quicker to recognise these as well as perform the RC.

Old Work - Being in a situation working in marketing/sales - Unsure about how to RC this one, It was a different country, different people and a different me
Friends from old times (work in England, Schoo, High School) - RC them when I encounter them on facebook
Being in Hornslet - The town in which I grew up - Have increased the frequency of RCs when thinking/being there
Naked in public spaces - RC when having shower, going to the toilet or anything to do with nudity.
Trains/Traveling - RC whenever I see elements associated with these things
Spirits and Ghosts - RC when thinking about paranormal stuff (I do that a lot)
TV Show Settings - Increase awareness when watching, RC frequently.
Agrression/Aggressive actions - RC whenever I think aggressively/angry
Electrical storms - RC whenever there is a bad wheather (Have decided to try and engage a storm in conversation!)

I am writing my Dream Journal on DV, wondering how this is gonna go down with the readers, do I seem like an arrogant prick? don't care I am having fun ^^

I am awake, reminding myself to RC the SECOND I wake up from now on! How stupid am I, I have no freaking post-it notes, now do I!!!

24-08-10 Gonna start from the end, as the beginning seems very blurry, much of the dream could have transpired during my snoozes that happened over an hour. I am talking to Sam about something, the woman from before is interrupting in what might be Norwegian, I seem to understand some of it, but although it sounds strange and makes me a bit suspicions, I write it off as wishful thinking. People are exiting the bus, I am waiting behind as I need to get to the top floor to get my backpack. As we are coming to and end of the journey I continue my conversation with some of the younger guys, I explain how awesome the train policy in Germany is regarding group tickets (missed the train sign), some of the younger guys have asked Sam (a younger Sam Winchester, only in resemblance, residue) if they are really going to Amsterdam. We recently got to Holland and as this comes to my mind, I say it it sounds interesting. This conversation is happening on the top of the pier, a pier I have come to like over the past few days, there are 4 or 5 of us now present. “Sam”, his best friend the younger guys and the outsider, namely me. I am still in awe about what Sam and his friend have just done, the reason we are now sitting atop the pier, that rises very high above the surface of the water. The journey back up to the pier starts in the ocean, I wonder why Sam's friend doesn't swim as it will be quicker, but he seems to prefer walking on water. As I come to the flight of stairs I notice a lot of silver worms in the sand (Residue, you guys should have seen the size of the creatures I saw at work yesterday) I quickly head to the top and await the others. I quickly swim over to Sam's friend and tell him what they just was insane and amazing. They placed themselves in the top of a box stacked upon another, and tilted this from the top of the pier into the sea. Funny enough the boxes actually don't just fall down, but slam into the side of the pier sling shooting Sam and his friend under it, but I somehow know that this is what they intended and both come out OK. Think this is where I first saw the woman who spoke in Norwegian, short blonde girl with a slim face and very very long hair, not all smooth, which sort of goes with the crowd we are hanging out with.

Oh and here is what I remember from my second dream :bang:! I wake up, I know I have to go to work tomorrow and I know I am only in my first REM stage, I am really tired so I quickly find a post-it block and jog down a few bullets from my first dream, wow that was quite short but amazing. I might as well try to WILD, as I might have to leave the minute my alarm goes off, I lye down, focus on my breath with the intention of going to sleep, I use my breath checking on a lower frequency than before, as I recall how aware and awake I can become if I focus on it too much... I soon drift off and go to sleep...

2: Sorry for the whole memento attempt at writing this, but I tried it to see if I would get additional details about the last dream and got carried away (didn't get further information either >.<)
3: I remember 4 dreams transpiring, 2 of them I have no recollection of, besides the fact I know they happened.
4: Anyone who reads this feel free to remind me to RC every moment I wake up, from now on!!!!!

PSS: The entire first dream could have been false memories, as I seem to remember just writing down random stuff, also There is no way of telling when it actually took place, it was dark at the time I was awake, but I was only experiencing a false awekening :/

Additional Details: When writing down the first dream it wasn't always a pos-it note, my paper based DJ was there and I waas struggling to find an empty spot, but also finding the part where I wrote down the first bits of information.

Yeah, I finally figured out what this means, too... I started looking at WILDing differently. Less focus on entering a dream, MORE focus on falling asleep aware. It's starting to work out quite well, I'm pleased with the results! No LD's yet from it, but the hallucinations are getting stronger, coming in faster, and I'm learning how to passively watch them :D

Well I figured it wouldn't count as a WILD, just thought it funny to ask :P. Not gonna count it as a lucid, as I was convinced it was reality, I have thought back at this experience a couple of times and I might have done a hand RC but been too tired to perform more than one. I was very tired so I might have actually woken up done the RC and fallen straight back to sleep, then carried out what I intended in the setting of a false awakening ^^. More like a DEI(N)LD :P.

Notes:
Day residue: Pil and Thure shouting commands from the car, a joke we are running and have done prior to me going asleep. Gonna count the TV show characters as well here.

Faulty logic: Stopping the car twice, looking directly at a person and through a rear-view mirror that is supposed to be behind my back.

Dream Signs: Trains, traveling, spirits/ghosts (the possessed train), acting on aggression (although not that violent I would never stop a car and go to pull a friend of mine out of the car).
-Completely missed all of them!

Assignment 3:

I Seem to have little luck in carrying over RC for DILD, although I have found myself to stop and pay closer attention to the settings of dreams lately, this seems to be a natural by product of paying more attention in real life, awareness training, which I won't stop.

As for my Sleep cycles they are fairly open, I study in a way that means I don't have to attend classes, giving me all the spare time to wake up late etc. For this reason I will keep pursuing WILDs. Regarding my actual cycles I have little knowledge (yet) as to how they work, a primary hindrance to me figuring out more about this is that I have focused probably too much on awareness, woken myself up too much and distort the sleep cycles, by me not being able to go back to sleep.

From my WILD progression spreadsheet I can see that I have been succesful on a nap attempt (0 hours presleep) and with 1 hour (probably catching the first REM stage). Both have been quite short so I am very interested in catching the later cycles.

From some of my failed attempts with waking up after 4-4,5 hours I have noticed little HHs, and me being very awake after a while. I am pondering if it might be a good idea for me to drop it down to 2-2.5 hours, for a couple of reasons. A: I will be more tired and I need to tune the technique without waking myself up too much, which has happened on the longer sleep attempts. B: It is a step by step approach that eventually WILL allow me to catch the later REM steps, while I master the induction technique itself. C: WHEN succesful in this, I will still have more time to practice dream stabilisation and control for WHEN I am able to reach the later stages.

I am very interested in coupling WILD with WBTB, but I think that more knowledge on my personal patterns will help me determine how and when to do this most effectively.

So I know little of my schedules, but I am hoping Serenity will let me count it as completed if I throw in a cheeky "It is a sign of the educated mind to know that one knows nothing" :P and assurance that the progresion sheet is updated and evaluated on a regular basis (daily 1-2 times) and that anyone can request to see it at any time!

Seeing as I have decided to focus on WILDs here is some notes on how my nap attemot went this afternoon.

Fairly loose approach, Think I had some non dreamy sleep at first attempt until I woke up, then I really remember trying, got very relaxed reached SP twice, When looking at HHs they tend to vanish and I think it is because I subconsciously tell myself they are halucinations (invoking logic too much?). This might be the same logic that makes me wake up. There may be a couple of reasons for waking up here though. It was very bright, the telly was making a noice that sounded like a form of tinitus and the neighbour had a friend over and randomly a scream would be heard from the other flat. The environment might simply not have supported me enough in a tricky technique, as it is.

Btw, If I shouldn't stick this sort of stuff in here and save it for a WILD workshop, please let me know.

Here I will summarise and add to my answers on the assignments. It is a wall of text and much of it has been written down previously in the thread, primarily aimed at giving Serenity an overview of my assignments.

Assignment: Go through your dream journal and analyse where the content of your dreams comes from. Is it mostly day residue? Do you notice a lot of false memories or faulty logic in them?

Day residue comes in a couple of forms for me, one is visual effects that tends to have little or no bearing on the actual meaning of the dream. However this might be worth noticing, as there is a fair amount, which means that increasing the frequency of awareness checks throughout the day could lead to more DILDs.

Day residue can also take the form of reflections I do over how I live my life (I constantly do this, and I am starting to see dreams centred around these reflections) An example is the principle of Vox Veritas Vita (speak the truth as a way of life) Recently I have noticed that I in non-lucids passively challenge myself, by putting myself in situations where lying seems an easier way to go.

False logic, probably my bane, I accept everything for what it is, for instance just this night I was hiding behind a wall, but I could see through it. I actually thought at one point, oh good I will just hide behind this brick wall and see when the other shooter is distracted. Another example, I was recently jumping down through 3 -4 levels of bathrooms, that had a hole in the floor against the fursthest wall, on the next level down I would stand on the sink (Where the hole in the floor had just been).

I am however seeing, after having attended the class, that I become suspicious more frequently, but I need to improve on stopping and taking in the soroundings IRL and perform some RCs. I had a WILD fail to DILD the other night where I was in the underground in the setting of a movie (just having verbalised and written down the dream signs, TV Shows, Trains, I was very suspiscious, but it was when I walked up and out of a door that led me inside a moving train that I decided I was dreaming (recognising false logic)) I didn't even have to RC after this realisation.

False memories take the shape of deja vu for me, just an inherent knowledge that I know that I know why something is happening, don't even bother going into the details, hopefully my focus in awareness check ups will help me to question what I know/why I know it.

Assignment: Go through your dream journal and see if you can notice any reoccurring signs that are popping up. Make a list!
Bonus marks: Find out which sign occurs the most and incorporate reality checking to the sign into your daily routine.

Smoking - Having stopped smoking I now RC everytime I feel an urge to roll/smoke a cigarette

Since starting the class I have had a DILD from Trains/TV Shows, I have been very suspicious about why I have been smoking in my dreams, but not enough to induce.

Assignment: Review your current sleep schedule. Taking what you know about DILDs and WILDs, which technique would best work for you for inducing lucid dreams?
Bonus: Knowing this, you may want to look into signing up for that specific course when it’s offered next

I am currently working a 90 day WILD project with 1-2 attempts daily (bar weekends as these can get messy ^^). Will definetely want to sign up for courses that offer advice on this. I will carry on my own private project so I can develop a deeper understanding on how I work, which will be very helpful preparation for any course on WILDs.

In the mean time I am increasing awareness checks (maybe I should state that these are moments where I stop, look around, especially at edges of buildings and details of signs, trees bushes everything really, just take half a minute to scrutinize the details of my suroundings) to improve my odds of DILDing.

Assignment: Think of 2-3 goals that you would like to accomplish. They could be anything! If you need some inspiration, check out some tasks from the Task of the Month forum. How would you attempt each goal?

Learn to WILD (In progress so far I have 2 successes out of 16 attempts, 3 if you count the failed WILD to DILD)
Meet the woman whom I asked my dream name, and later tried to date, again. (Not Attempted)
Find the Siberian Huskie again (Not Attempted)

I have actually had a shot at August's Task of the Month and completed the basic one, I did manage to summon a unicorn, but she took on human form before I could ride her, I piggy backed her, but she wouldn't shift back into unicorn form again after I called her a beautiful horse.. see details here..
