      Recommend a Movie

Well I was going to make it 'favourite movie' but reccomending a movie is much more interesting. I'm not much of a movie buff but I love watching a decent one, they always inspire me, especially if they get me in a particular mood. I've always thought about writing a movie, so maybe that's something I might do later in life. So yeah, if you have a favourite or just know a movie that is moving/interesting or a must-see, let's hear it.

      My two favourite movies are

Bladerunner - breathtakingly intense visually, although a little lacking in dialouge and acting. Make sure you get the director'd cut, the original has a shitty voice-over and ending. I studied this movie in school and loved it to bits, but I haven't been able to find it since.

Unforgiven - I love Clint Eastwood films, and this is without a doubt one of the coolest. Not really heavy on the shooting, but much more thought-provoking than most movies I've seen.

      Feel free to share.

      Hmmm..... Debbie does Dallas? naw...

Minority Report is pretty good - Lots of action, lots of hi-tech stuff, plenty of mind action.

Three Amigo's is also a pretty decent comedy.

      i like movies

rainman: simply great... a good movie, good acting, with a lack of action... but it doesn't need any... it just... great

the island (!) "Lots of action, lots of hi-tech stuff, plenty of mind action."

      Vanilla sky... good movie

      Spy Game good movie too!

      Forrest gump... same as rainman

Goodbye, Lenin! in german... good movie

The Rock... good movie, enough actions, some almost-comedy moments sometimes...

also a few good movies, not "great" just good:
      --the usual suspects
      -- the patriot
      --a beautiful mind
      --conspiracy theory

and i could go on for hours...

Bladerunner is a great flick. Good way to start off.
Requiem For A Dream is intense and I loved the characters and the way it was shot.
Taxi Driver was awesome for the same reasons.
Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas was so warped; everyone has had at least one
      weekend like that. ( haven't they ? )

As a side note : Any Clash fans ? Some of the lyrics from " Red Angel Dragnet "
are taken from Travis' interior monologue in Taxi Driver.

gambling, gods, and lsd- "documentary" better viewed stoned.

willy wonka and the chocolate factory (the original of course)- hilarious

      the princess bride- absolute classic

airplane 2- hilarious the first couple times

the corporation- good critique of trans-national corporations, and capitalism as a whole

fear and loathing in las vegas-

any of the 'cymatic soundscapes" videos by Hans Jennys-
very hard to find. mind-blowing experiments documenting the effects of sound and vibration on small spores, iron filings, water droplets, etc.

I'm adding " Brazil " to my list. I watched it the other day
after not seeing it in a long time. Very strange movie; very good also.

I just saw Equilibrium last night, I was expecting it to be mindless action but the storyline is cool, and I've never seen anything as stylish as the gunfights in my entire life.

Also Starwars is a favourite of mine.

I'll add the entire Star Trek library to my list (6 series and 10 movies, that's 270 dvd's), as well as the Matrix Trilogy.

Sin City. This movie is just awesome. The characters are badass, the figh scenes are badass, but most of all, the style of it is something I have never seen in a movie. It's like watching the comic books! Just incredible.

Princess Mononoke - Awesome anime by Miyazaki. All his stuff just seems to have this magical feeling to it by the end that can't quite be described, particularly this one and Spirited away, which is also great. This movie has the added bonus of some intense action.
Well life is short, so love the one ya' got, 'cause you might get run over or you might get shot.

28 Days Later - I was suprised by this movie. I was expecting a terrible, gory film with zombies and constant fighting, but instead I got an unusually good film about the fall of humankind to "rage." I was intrigued by the idea of a deserted world (London, actually), whose population had been wiped out by an incurable virus. Interesting, really, and well worth a watch.

Saw - One of the best horror films I've seen. The plot of the movie actually makes sense, and doesn't overexaggerate the violence to the point where there is no storyline. The villian is a madman/genius serial killer, who really doesn't kill anybody. He puts his victims in situations where they are forced to do some unbearable task to save their own life, most of the time killing themselves in the process. A great, original movie/psychological thriller.

Ever seen the movie Chopper? It's about some Aussie criminal... I've always heard people talking about it etc, and the other day a mate and I decided to watch it and loved it. There's some classic lines in it - "oh shit, sorry Jimmy!" (after stabbing Jim in the side of the throat with a screwdriver. "You don't hate me now do you Jimmy? Here, have a cigarette..." (Jimmy gurgles in a pool of blood).

Eric Bana does a great job of acting the lead character, Chopper Reed and not just making him a trigger happy bad guy, but an attention-seeking headcase, a great movie.

Saw and Chopper are both excellent films. Most of you have probably already seen most of these, but here are some films that I love:

      Saving Private Ryan
      House Of Flying Daggers
      Kung Fu Hustle
      Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children
      Shaolin Soccer
      Baseketball
      Dawn Of The Dead (remake)
      Sean Of The Dead

I watched the new CG movie Madagascar the other day. It was pretty good, it had a good soundtrack. The plot wasn't the most complex- buts it a kids movie really.

The films i would really recommend are the Monty Python movies. They are simply great!
