Vanilla sky is a bit off.

I mean, tom cruise uses a light switch... that isn't cool. I would have though the hollywood pranksters would have done some better research >: (

      Still a nice movie. =)

Shouldn't this be in the entertainment forum?

      Good point, though.

      Well....

Light switches work often in my dreams. I remember one time, I was in a dream, and I thought, "Hmm... this seems strange... I know, I'll check the lightswitch. So I got up, flipped it on and off, and it worked fine, so I said, "Well, I guess I'm not dreaming" and I sat back down. Device failure reality checks don't always work for everyone, and so the movie is not necessarily incorrect because the lightswitch works, alhough it would have been cool to implement that.

      Howdy Katya!

Asheville NC? Welcome to Dreamviews, I am just east of you over the TN line

Device failure is a subjective thing. Most of the time, if you believe they will work, then they will.

You know what is really stupid about that movie? They clam that he starts his lucid dream when he wakes up on the sidewalk right? Thats bs because he doesnt start his lucid dream until the very last scene. He never knew he was dreaming so it would of just been a normal dream

Exactly, which is pretty much the worth thing about the film (apart from maybe Tom).

      Possible spoilers ahead....

It's been a long time since i watched that movie, but as far as i remember it, it wasn't actually a lucid dream that the character was experiencing. Sure, it was basically about dreams and what not, but in the movie his physical body is in a completely different state to normal sleep. It's in a controlled environment, and he's basically physically dead. So it's not really a normal lucid dream, and as such, the normal circumstances that are bound to most dreams can easily be ignored for the sake of the movie. The less time they need to take up filling the movie with things like disfunctional lighting and abusrd context the more time they have to focus on the story.

The way i see it, he was in a dream, but it was sort of a controlled dream. I mean, you don't actually get technical support in a dream, because nothing goes wrong with the externaly controlled simulation, because our dreams are not controlled externally

....or maybe that's exactly what we're all experiencing!

Actually, owning the DVD, I've watched it a lot. The first clue that he might be dreaming is from his girl friend's phone ring. Row row row your boat…. At the beginning of the movie.

The whole film is designed to make you wonder where the dream started. What is being told be the actors may not be true (just like in a dream). My conclusion is that he has always been dreaming.
