Cool

I'm making a CD (or two, or three, depending on how many songs I have - the more the better) of happy, optimistic upbeat music!

So far, I've got:

U2 - Beautiful Day;
U2 - Stuck in a moment;
The Cranberries - Dreams;
Jimmy Eat World - The Middle;
Oasis - Lyla;
- All around the world;
- Acquiesce;
The New Radicals - You only get what you give (my personal favourite happy song);
REM - Shiny Happy People;
Spin Doctors - Little Miss can't be wron;
- Margarita;
- Two Princes;
Lostprophets - Rooftops.

So, could you recommend some happy songs?

Made up my mind to make a new start,

Going To California with an aching in my heart.

Led Zeppelin

Relient K has a fair amount of enjoyable songs:
"May the Horse be With You"
"Sadie Hawkins Dance"
"Mood Rings"
"Gibberish" - Yep, that's pretty much what it is. Amusing
"Marilyn Manson ate my Girlfriend" (I don't know if that's the title, but that's the main part of the chorus)

There are some more, but I can't think of them.

Back when I was a little girl, I used to be such an Aqua fan.

Seriously. It haunts me even now. The sheer cheesy lollipop-ness of all those songs rings in my head even now, with just song titles reminding me. "I'm a barbie gurl, in a barbie wooo-ooor-orld!"

I don't know whether to shudder, or to let out a nostalgic sigh...

Do we have an ambivolence smiley? <--I think that's the closes I'm gonna come.

BLink 182 are 100% upbeat, although theyre a bit... kind of loud for some people

Chelsea Dagger by the Fratellis is very cheerful and happy, although the subject isn't particularly.

I'm glad you like it. That album is a modern classic, definitely one of my all time favorites. "Two-Headed Boy" and "Holland, 1945" are amazing pieces of songwriting.

I'm not sure if these are all 'happy' songs, but they are upbeat and not pessimistic (most of my songs I keep are usually Gothic Rock, Rock, or songs in Japanese)-

Head Automatica- Beating Heart Baby

Head Automatica- Graduation Day

Crazy Town- Butterfly

I'll add in more if I find anymore songs while cleaning out my mp3 player

"Happy, Happy, Joy, Joy" from the Ren and Stimpy show is amazing.

I also like "I Be An Retarded" from They Might Be Giants.

I'm surprised noone said Blind Melons "No Rain"

The Presidents of the United States of America (PUSA) -Peaches

Most anything from Me First and the Gimme Gimmes

Most anything from Phish

Alot of the Ramones, I'll go with "Rockaway Beach"

I could name alot of The Aquabats songs but I'll go with "Super Rad", "Chemical Bomb" (wait for the chorus), "Play Dough", "Pizza Day", "Pool Party", "Lovers of Loving Love", and my the happiest song I know of, 'Red Sweater"

I'll stop there.

Edit: I forgot to metion DEVO! Whip it!

"Tacobel Canon" by Ratatat is my "happiest song." I know this is a weird choice, probably not many people have even heard of the song or the artist. For the longest time I couldn't decided whether it was the happiest song ever, saddest song ever, or both. But whenever I am feeling depressed, blue, down, or whatever, hearing this song immediately makes me happy or takes the sadness away. It changes my emotions and general outlook in a strangely powerful way, so I decided its the happiest. It's really weird and hard to explain, but for me, this song is "happiness" at its very core manifest in sound waves, so I can't help but feel better when I am sensing it.

Others that come close off the top of my head are Pachelbel's Canon in D and "Cliffs of Dover" by Eric Johnson.

That's not Bob Marley's. You could be thinking of his song "Three Little Birds." That's definitely a happy song!

"Don't worry
about a thing
cause every little thing
is gonna be alright"

Other happy songs are:

Wonderful World -- Horace Andy
I Can See Clearly Now -- Jimmy Cliff's version
Jammin' and One Love -- Bob Marley
Reggae Got Soul and Sweet and Dandy -- Toots and the Maytals
Pas de Problemes -- Kana
Good Stuff and Dead Beat Club -- The B-52s
One -- U2
Honky Tonkin' -- Hank Williams
Bron-Y-Aur Stomp -- Led Zepplin
