      Dream Theater

Anybody else here listen to Dream Theater or any kind of progressive metal? I heard it one day and it's really changed the way I think of music, especially the guitar. I can't wait for their new album, AND they're coming to Florida in July! It's only a 2 and a half hour drive and the seats aren't seats, but a floor where you have to stand (for $35, anyways) but I'm still excited. I hope they play Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence...

I'm learning "Pull Me Under" on the guitar. I still have to figure out the riffing after the chorus.

my friend is really into them - we've seen them twice... i think their ballads are boring as crap but they have their amazing moments.

ever heard of symphony x? it's progressive metal too.

Actually, I love Symphony X. Unfortunately, I think they're going to be in Asia for the rest of the year. What I love about progressive metal is the epics. It seems no other style of rock really does epics. I also like bands like Dio and Kamelot.

Are posts not counted in the Entertainment forum?

EDIT: Nevermind. I just wanted to check.

Replicon: That is the best one of that series I've seen so far, except for when Hitler got banned from Xbox Live.

      Hehe yeah it's pretty awesome!

As a software engineer who works in a bigger company, I definitely loved the "Downfall of Agile" one best.

But yeah, Dream Theater! I can't wait for black clouds and silver linings. I'm not getting the "collector edition" but the "special edition" that has the vocals-free songs on it so you can karaoke to it is gonna be SWEET. Maybe that means they'll finally feature DT at karaoke places, which would rock. It's supposed to be a well-balanced album, which is good. Systematic Chaos was good, but it took a long time for some of the flagship songs on it to grow on me. They eventually got there, though.

EDIT: I haven't actually gone and listened to them yet, but a colleague said there's a group called Porcupine that's supposed to be in a similar vein.

I like a few of their songs, in fact a fellow DV member suggested them to me, but I don't really dig their sound all that much. I'm more a symphonic metal kind of guy. I do like Kamelot and Iced Earth and the like.
