Lord of the Rings Online giving f2p option starting this fall.

SO I was super excited when I read the aforementioned news, being a college student and all, but it got me thinking...If Turbine manages to make LOTRO explode just like it did with DDO's f2p changes...will this start an industry trend that will soon make games with only a sub option a thing of the past? I actually kind of hope so, because I would like more than 10 days to decided if a game is really worth a sub fee for the whole game or not.

Browser based games have had a version of this forever. It would really be interesting if it went into the mainstream game market, but I kind of don't like it at the same time. Does it mean that only people who pay will be able to dominate in PvP for some games? That would be annoying.

hmm well I dont think people will be able to buy their way to the top in the mainstream games. thats reserved for the strictly f2p games that are only aiming at a one or two year growth and fall cycle lol. I for see mainstream games doing like lotro and ddo where the store may make things more convenient. But you are still going to have to earn top of the line gear.
