PS3 vs. 360, which one??

Here's the deal. I want to get one of those two, use it primarily for gaming, and I should also mention that I'll be getting a Korean version and wanting to play US games.

After reading a bit about both, my concerns are these:

Xbox 360
- Tougher to play games from outside the country of purchase, unless those games don't come with regional codes.
- Apparently has a loud fan.
- Breaks often.

PS3
- Is a better machine on paper but in reality frame rate and graphics quality seems to be worse. Two games I'm specifically thinking about right now, that I want but have these issues, are Dragon Age and (maybe) Bayonetta.

Thoughts? Advice??

Hm, I have a ps3, 360 and wii and definitely think the 360 is better. I'm sorry ps3 lovers but the 360 has more games and plus with Natal coming out.. yeah bye bye ps3.

As far as functionality, there's not much of a difference if you ask me.

Ps3's online multiplayer gaming is free where as the 360's cost money every year.

However, everyone I know with an Xbox, has had the red rings problem at least once or more. Also, everyone I know that owns both systems tends to shun their 360 the majority of the time, unless a major exclusive game like a new Halo has come out recently.

I've never had a problem with frame rate or graphics quality on my PS3, the graphics look marvelous on everything. The only exception though, is one of the games you mentioned coincidentally, there is some frame rate problems with Dragon Age, but definitely not enough to make it not enjoyable. I've never seen a hitch of frame rate problems with any other game.

Overall, I'm very happy with my PS3, free online play is a major plus for me. Also, the exclusives appeal to me much more than the Xbox exclusives. The only Xbox exclusives that interest me at all are Halo and Fable, and honestly I thought the first Halo was the peak of the series anyway....

Alright, I think at the end of the day I would have liked to get a 360 (only because I already own PS1 and 2, would be nice to try something new)... but the friggin REGION CODE BS is gonna make it pretty much useless, unless I can magically learn Korean in a day or two. Gaaaaad damn it all. :P

I think you'll probably find more games for the 360, but the PS3 has some of the better games out there.

I've never actually played a PS3 before (except at Wal-Mart).

I guess it really just boils down to which games you want to play and if they are console exclusive only.

Xbox Live costs $60 a year, or $5 a month. If you can't afford that, maybe you can do something other than play video games?

Who said anything about Xbox Live not being affordable? :?

Also, it's only $50 a year.

Plus you need Xbox Live Gold to pretty much do all the cool things on the Xbox.

Do you want to pay $50 a year or get free for online service?
Want a system that has blu-ray compatability?
Want more exclusive games higher rated over-all games?
The console that is in 1st place out of the other two?

The PS3 favors all of these listings.

Get an Xbox 360 because it has Mass Effect 2 which is the best game in the universe.

I think the blu ray player in the ps3 is a big factor, but for you the main variable is going to be which system you can get games for most easily in korea. No matter which system is technically better, the deciding factor is going to be how hard it is to get the games you actually want to play. Just out of curiosity, how much of an issue would shipping be if you decided to get everything imported from the states?

Shipping games is not a problem, but I can't buy a console from overseas without paying a ridiculous import tax on it...

And it looks like if I buy a console domestically (Korea), I won't be able to play games from anywhere else. So since I've found that out, the choice has essentially been decided for me.

The ps3 is over rated. I have a 360 and the fan is quiet. mostly I have it for halo and gears of war. Don't have live yet though

There is not one overall winner in this particular console war, HOWEVER there are contextual winners, and for the most part the PS3 comes out on top.


Why? You may ask. Well, if we had this thread 1 year ago then it would have been the Xbox 360 as a nobrainer. However the world of gming has dramatically changed since then, and now it's become almost entirely the opposite.

Let's start the analysis by looking at Exclusive games. Now these are games which are ONLY available on one system. We use the term "Multiplatform" for games available on both. So here I'm going to compare the top exclusives for both systems.

Spoiler for A note on Xbox Exclusives:

An interesting not when talking about exclusives for the Xbox 360, is that nearly all the top 360 games can actually be bought for the PC, because Microsoft are hesitant to restrict their market. What this means is that top 360 exclusives such as gears of war or Mass Effect can actually be played on a decent PC, with FREE online. Whereas on the console you have to pay, as I'm sure you've heard.

The most recent games of course we are in now a good position to evaluate. So let's look at the TOP REVIEWED exclusive games for the year 2009:

Now Firstly I'm going to give you the exclusive Games with a METACRITIC score of 85+ from each platform.

According to Metacritic, for 2009:

Xbox 360:
Forza Motorsport 3 [92% Good Reviews]

Now the only other contender is Left 4 Dead 2, however considering it is primarily a PC game, it should not truly be counted as an exclusive.

PS3:
Uncharted 2: Among Thieves [96% Good Reviews]
Killzone 2 [92% Good Reviews]
God of War Collection [91% Good Reviews]
Demon's Souls [89% Good Reviews]
InFAMOUS [85% Good Reviews]
Ratchet and Clank Future: A Crack In Time [87% Good Reviews]



So combining this result with multiplatforms, for 2009 the board was essentially sweeped by Sony. Not to mention that previously 360 exclusive titles are consistently coming to PS3, with added features: see Vesperia, Star Ocean, Liberty City Stories.



OK, So that's GAMES for 2009. What about upcoming games? How is 2010 Looking to shape up?

Well it's much more even than last year's essential massacre, However I still feel the PS3 comes out on top.

So here are good looking either confirmed or basically confirmed exclusives for 2010:

Now, you may think in terms of quantity these lists look alot closer, which indeed is the case. But let me explain why I feel the PS3 list is the better, and why it will appeal more personally to YOU Mes. Also you Nina.


Let's run through 2010 exclusives one more time, this time considering the style of game:

Bioshock 2 [Undersea Shooter Horror]

So what are the trends: Shooting and RPG basically is the deal here.

Now the PS3 list is actually far more interesting, and revolutionary, whilst as you can see the 360 list is stale status quo gaming. (Just look at all them sequels).

Gran Turismo 5 [Racing]
Heavy Rain [Practically an interactive and mature movie. The first of it's kind and likely to revolutionise the way we consider Video Games]

Now you must see the difference here. PS3 certinly has it's share of shooters and RPG, but it is alsogoing beyond that this year. Games like MAG, which revolutionises FPS, games like Heavy Rain, which revolutionise gaming, Games like The Last Guardian, which are one of the few instances video games can be considered art.


So as is undeniable, unless you're a shooting loving 13 year old, is that the PS3 is as of now the better choice, without a doubt. This isn't even to mention the pre-2009 games [Metal Gear Solid 4, widely regarded as one of the greatest endings to a series ever].


Now on the other hand, if you do mainly enjoy what you're used to in video games, so shooting and bland fantasy adventures, then choose a 360, because you'll honestly be happier.


OK. So that is games.

What about hardware, other features? Well it's known that the PS3 is the higher-powered piece of kit, due to it's cell processor. It also takes blu-ray discs. What this practically means is that FAR more information can be stored on a disc for a PS3. A good example is Final Fantasy XIII, which is on One disc for the PS3, and 3 discs for the Xbox [even with reduced content].

PS3 has FREE online play, inbuilt WiFi, default wireless controllers, easily chargeable. The Hard Drive is replacable with a typical laptop hardrive, so you can easily upgrade your space.

The Xbox 360 has subscription payed online features, Wired and wireless controllers, and WiFi etc needs to bought seperately from microsoft, at an absurd price.


AN IMPORTANT NOTE REGARDING XBOX 360 HARDWARE: The Xbox is INFAMOUS for it's so called "Red Ring of Death" which can happen any time, and renders the console useless. The current estimated failure rates for the Xbox 360 are as high as "54.2%". Which frankly is absolutely ridiculous. http://blog.seattlepi.com/microsoft/archives/176741.asp

The editor of the leading gaming news website Kotaku.com has himself admitted to having SEVEN xboxes break down so far. Which honestly is absolutely ridiculous, PARTICULARLY for such a shoddy service in the first place.



OK, so we've seen hardware, PS3 won, We've seen Games, PS3 won. The only last thing is PRICE.

Now the PS3 used to be awful here. With a $600 release price it was a disgrace and this is the reason it failed to launch early on in it's lifespan. However last September Sony radically reduced the price of the PS3 and gave it a new model: The PS3 Slim. Now this is as low as $250 on sale new.

The Xbox 360 was always about this price, and now can be got at $199. However when you add on to the retail price the cost of extras that are included with the PS3, such as a Wireless adaptor and online subscription, The Xbox 360 comes out as MORE expensive than the PS3.



So the PS3 at this point in it's life is better in every respect than the Xbox 360.

If you want to play online by the way, you'll find yourself amongst more players of your own age on the PLaystation Network. Surveys have shown the typical age of Playstation owners as consistently higher than 360 owners.

The classic idea of age goes as thus: Wii for ages 0-12, Xbox 360 for ages 12-18, PS3 for ages 18+.

This is also reflected in the games. Wii goes for cartoony happy games, 360 goes for mindless shooting, and PS3 goes for interesting generally "movie-like" games.

Also Xbox LIVE [the xbox online network] Is one of the most horrible places to play ever. I know this from experience, there is a ridiculous amount of foul mouthed 13 years olds, it's frustrating. PSN is significantly better in my experience. Less people have mics, but all that really means is less kids screaming at you.



And finally, the most important aspect is that since I sold my 360 and bought a gaming PC to replace it I only play PS3, and so if either of you buy a PS3, you can play online with me :3


So in short, PS3, there never was another choice. [Also yeah, PS3 games are region free Mes, and far more prevalent in your part of the world]




EDIT: also Blu Ray movies are wonderful, and really should be experienced if you have a HD tv. There's a VAST difference between Blu Ray and DVD. It's one step closer to actually being there, really.

If Tax is what your concerned about why don't you decide to buy your PS3 from eBay? Not only will you get one brand new, but cheaper also. Also, I don't know if Xbox has this the same feature, but with your free online service you can also buy and download ps1 classics. I have bought a few, there great but not as cool as the games come out these days.

You also get to rent or buy dvd's from there online service. I have never used it, but it looks very convenient. Let me know what you decide.

Also, as a quick note. What it really comes down to is you get what you pay for. For the Xbox, you get a little less (assuming you get the basic model) and with the PS3 you get a little more. (assuming you get the basic model)

before you decide what to buy you should try the controllers out. i find the ps3 controller to be a piece of *poopie* but that's just me. also it depends on what kinds of games you're interested in.. just look up the top rated games for each console and decide that way.
i recommend that you listen to my advice on mass effect 2 in that it's the best game in the universe.
and if you like multiplayer especially co operative multiplayer you will realize that left 4 dead 2 is the best game in the galaxy.

I think you should read my post, explaining why exactly there is no reason to buy an Xbox 360.

I have Wii, PS2, PS3, Wii, N64, PSP, DS, GameBoy, SNES, NES, Sega Genesis, Xbox, Xbox 360, and a gaming pc.

Honestly, I think PC is the best.

However, here's why I prefer the PS3 to Xbox:

+ Almost any "exclusive" game on Xbox is on PC
- I prefer games on PC (ie. Bioshock)
+ USB ports are a big thing for me and Xbox's are a pain compared to PS3's (try hooking up Rock Band and compare the two - PS3 is far easier)
+ I love Blu-Rays
+ I don't want to pay for online gaming
+ I have yet to have a problem with the PS3 or PS2 after many, many years of owning them
+ I have had problems with the Xbox
- Namely USB port problems and some game disc reading, such as Gears.
+ I highly prefer PS3's controller, but that's really just preference
+ I can get the PS3 controller to work on my PC

The xbox I have just sits there, collecting dust, after I used it for Fable. What a waste.

I really don't see why XBox is so popular. I honestly see no real reason for it to be other than some sort of fad. I really think PS3 is simply better for all practical means.

If I find out that Alan Wake is coming out on PC - there's no reason to keep it.

I hate halo and Gears is crap compared to most other shooters (ie. CoD or MGS or BC2)

Are there any downsides to getting the slim model? I remember there was a problem with ps2 slims overheating or something like that? I might have made that up though.

Yes I do believe the PS2 slims would overheat. I'm not sure about the PS3 slim.

There was a problem with the PS2, although my slim never overheated.

As for the PS3 slim, there has been no noticable increase in overheating than the PS3 phat, so I'd say no. The slim is worth getting, and you shouldn't be worried by overheating.

The only time the PS3 is in danger of overheating is in extreme conditions.

Although I completed Uncharted 2 [which is one of the most intensely visual and resource consuming games in existence] in one day, and had no problems at all with overheating.

You can communicate with teamates on PSN fine. The PSN used to be significantly inferior but in the last few firmware updates it has increased in quality dramatically, and is now a perfectly respectable contender.

I was also wondering about PS3 slim... I guess we'll see which version the shop has, and that'll be the one I get.

I'd buy it from eBay if it weren't for the import tax. And the wait. I can't wait another week. :P

Whatever, I'm not concerned about watching movies on this thing. I have a ps2, a DVD player, and a working laptop, I don't need a fourth option.

I played on a 360 for years. It's good for mainstream gamers. Then my red-ringed itself. I will admit Microsoft was pretty good at fixing it, got it back in less than a week with a free 3-month live card (didn't have a wireless adaptor, though). Long story short, my brothers both have their own 360 and Xbox Live. I have a PS3. I love it. The PS3 has *no* issues so far, where as my First Xbox not only got red ring, but also scratched up $300 worth of games. Enough to buy a new playstation. The Xbox is nice in that it's a nice, friendly user environment -- sort of like a Mac. It's also got that flashy interface. The parental controls are good (my poor brothers :P). However, I love the playstation interface, The blu-ray player, the media access (can you pull stuff from a home server off of an Xbox? I don't know), the accessibility, etc. Also, I find Xbox controllers to be incredibly awkward. PS3 is comfortable and fits right in my hand.

The PS3 seems to be much more serious, at any rate. The machinery is expensive, but holds up well. For example, I just bought the official PS3 bluetooth headset for $60. It may have been expensive, but it's got a good battery life, it's barely noticeable on my ear, AND I can hook it up to my cellphone, laptop, etc. Compare that to the $20 pieces of crap my brothers use, which plug straight into the controller and barely work half the time. The only part of the Xbox I like vetter is the hard drive, which is much easier to interchange than the PS3. When I went to a friend's house, I just popped out the hard drive and had all my data with me.

In summary:
Xbox got red ring of death, ate up $300 of games that are now almost completely unplayable. The wireless adapter is $100, plus another $50 a month. The equipment is terrible, can only be used on Xbox, and doesn't even work right all the time then. However, it is very easy to use, has good parental controls, etc. That's why my little brothers got one.

The PS3 is relatively inexpensive now (I got one of the original 80GB for Christmas. It's a phat, backwards-compatible beast. For $300. Xbox is just slightly under that, I believe.) The controllers are comfortable, hold a great charge (forgot to mention they charge from the PS3, no batteries needed). Has a free online, amazing graphics, blu-ray player, etc. All around better. Plus, you're less likely to get the whiney 8 year olds (still happens, though). I have noticed however, that there are a lot of "ghetto" and "hick" stereotypes on there. That's about 2/3 of the people that use mics. Be prepared for that.


Also, I have a laptop which can run small gaming (Team Fortress 2 and Half Life 2 mostly) so if you have a PSN or STEAM account, add me. Name should simply be oniman7. If you add me on either, send me a message letting me know you're from DV.

I finally got a PS3, last Tuesday, and I'm loving it. I had been holding out for the PS3, because I just could never see Xbox holding up, in the long run. All of the selling points XBoxers had held above the PSHeads have all but dissolved in the past year or so. The upcoming games list for the PS3 looks phenomenal (and I believe Bioshock 2 is coming to PS3 as well, O'nus). The Blue Ray player will prove useful for years to come. There is no Red Ring of Death (a friend of mine just had her's Red Ring two days ago, and will be getting a PS3 soon. The potential for gaming is dramatically increased, with the games being formatted to much larger disc-space. The Playstation controllers are (IMHO) the most comfortable console controllers on the planet. And where I've seen the XBox graphics excel on one game, I've seen them fall inferior on others.

All in all, I would call the PS3 a better buy - especially looking to the future.

(Oh yeah, and as oniman mentioned; the controllers charging from the PS3, itself, is awesome. The keep a great charge. The default cable that comes with the system is far too short to take seriously, but they more than made up for it, with doing away with the hassle of constantly replacing the batteries.)

- Any controller you could possibly argue is better than PC... can be hooked up to a PC.
+ DLC
- Free DLC vs. Paid. Need I say more?

I would get a PC and then all PC versions of games I want but, right now portability is an issue. I'm not settled in one place for long, and besides that I need something I can carry to a friend's place.

i doubt mes has money to spend on a powerful enough PC to run those games as well or better than on the consoles.
360 comes with a mic, and for that reason it has a better online experience. you can actually communicate with your teammates. of course there are annoying little kids every once in a while, but if you play the right games it's easy to stay away from them. there are a lot less than people say. the ps3 does not come with a mic, you have to buy them separately, so unless you just like single player games that is a problem.
also i have never had a problem with my xbox live, i use a cable which makes it easier. my router is bad too.

i've played games on the PC since i was 9 and after switching to consoles i have had a much better experience. i like the xbox 360 controllers a lot (i hate the ps3 ones, the analog sticks are too close together, the shoulder buttons dont feel right, it doesn't fit in your hands properly and it feels cheap), i also don't feel like the exclusives for the ps3 are that interesting. i was never an indiana jones fan so uncharted does nothing for me. i also don't like mgs.
depends on your personal preferences. mes should get the console she likes best, and she should try them out before she buys. try the controllers and see which ones you like more, try the games or see which ones are more interesting to you, etc.

Why? You may ask. Well, if we had this thread 1 year ago then it would have been the Xbox 360 as a nobrainer. However the world of gming has dramatically changed since then, and now it's become almost entirely the opposite.

Whereas on the console you have to pay, as I'm sure you've heard.

The most recent games of course we are in now a good position to evaluate. So let's look at the TOP REVIEWED exclusive games for the year 2009:

Now Firstly I'm going to give you the exclusive Games with a METACRITIC score of 85+ from each platform.

According to Metacritic, for 2009:

Xbox 360:
Forza Motorsport 3 [92% Good Reviews]

Now the only other contender is Left 4 Dead 2, however considering it is primarily a PC game, it should not truly be counted as an exclusive.

PS3:
Uncharted 2: Among Thieves [96% Good Reviews]
Killzone 2 [92% Good Reviews]
God of War Collection [91% Good Reviews]
Demon's Souls [89% Good Reviews]
InFAMOUS [85% Good Reviews]
Ratchet and Clank Future: A Crack In Time [87% Good Reviews]



So combining this result with multiplatforms, for 2009 the board was essentially sweeped by Sony. Not to mention that previously 360 exclusive titles are consistently coming to PS3, with added features: see Vesperia, Star Ocean, Liberty City Stories.



OK, So that's GAMES for 2009. What about upcoming games? How is 2010 Looking to shape up?

Well it's much more even than last year's essential massacre, However I still feel the PS3 comes out on top.

Now, you may think in terms of quantity these lists look alot closer, which indeed is the case. But let me explain why I feel the PS3 list is the better, and why it will appeal more personally to YOU Mes. Also you Nina.


Let's run through 2010 exclusives one more time, this time considering the style of game:

So what are the trends: Shooting and RPG basically is the deal here.

Now the PS3 list is actually far more interesting, and revolutionary, whilst as you can see the 360 list is stale status quo gaming. (Just look at all them sequels).

Heavy Rain [Practically an interactive and mature movie. The first of it's kind and likely to revolutionise the way we consider Video Games]

Now you must see the difference here. PS3 certinly has it's share of shooters and RPG, but it is alsogoing beyond that this year. Games like MAG, which revolutionises FPS, games like Heavy Rain, which revolutionise gaming, Games like The Last Guardian, which are one of the few instances video games can be considered art.


So as is undeniable, unless you're a shooting loving 13 year old, is that the PS3 is as of now the better choice, without a doubt. This isn't even to mention the pre-2009 games [Metal Gear Solid 4, widely regarded as one of the greatest endings to a series ever].


Now on the other hand, if you do mainly enjoy what you're used to in video games, so shooting and bland fantasy adventures, then choose a 360, because you'll honestly be happier.


OK. So that is games.

What about hardware, other features? Well it's known that the PS3 is the higher-powered piece of kit, due to it's cell processor. It also takes blu-ray discs. What this practically means is that FAR more information can be stored on a disc for a PS3. A good example is Final Fantasy XIII, which is on One disc for the PS3, and 3 discs for the Xbox [even with reduced content].

PS3 has FREE online play, inbuilt WiFi, default wireless controllers, easily chargeable. The Hard Drive is replacable with a typical laptop hardrive, so you can easily upgrade your space.

The Xbox 360 has subscription payed online features, Wired and wireless controllers, and WiFi etc needs to bought seperately from microsoft, at an absurd price.


AN IMPORTANT NOTE REGARDING XBOX 360 HARDWARE: The Xbox is INFAMOUS for it's so called "Red Ring of Death" which can happen any time, and renders the console useless. The current estimated failure rates for the Xbox 360 are as high as "54.2%". Which frankly is absolutely ridiculous. http://blog.seattlepi.com/microsoft/archives/176741.asp

The editor of the leading gaming news website Kotaku.com has himself admitted to having SEVEN xboxes break down so far. Which honestly is absolutely ridiculous, PARTICULARLY for such a shoddy service in the first place.



OK, so we've seen hardware, PS3 won, We've seen Games, PS3 won. The only last thing is PRICE.

Now the PS3 used to be awful here. With a $600 release price it was a disgrace and this is the reason it failed to launch early on in it's lifespan. However last September Sony radically reduced the price of the PS3 and gave it a new model: The PS3 Slim. Now this is as low as $250 on sale new.

The Xbox 360 was always about this price, and now can be got at $199. However when you add on to the retail price the cost of extras that are included with the PS3, such as a Wireless adaptor and online subscription, The Xbox 360 comes out as MORE expensive than the PS3.



So the PS3 at this point in it's life is better in every respect than the Xbox 360.

If you want to play online by the way, you'll find yourself amongst more players of your own age on the PLaystation Network. Surveys have shown the typical age of Playstation owners as consistently higher than 360 owners.

The classic idea of age goes as thus: Wii for ages 0-12, Xbox 360 for ages 12-18, PS3 for ages 18+.

This is also reflected in the games. Wii goes for cartoony happy games, 360 goes for mindless shooting, and PS3 goes for interesting generally "movie-like" games.

Also Xbox LIVE [the xbox online network] Is one of the most horrible places to play ever. I know this from experience, there is a ridiculous amount of foul mouthed 13 years olds, it's frustrating. PSN is significantly better in my experience. Less people have mics, but all that really means is less kids screaming at you.



And finally, the most important aspect is that since I sold my 360 and bought a gaming PC to replace it I only play PS3, and so if either of you buy a PS3, you can play online with me :3


So in short, PS3, there never was another choice. [Also yeah, PS3 games are region free Mes, and far more prevalent in your part of the world]




EDIT: also Blu Ray movies are wonderful, and really should be experienced if you have a HD tv. There's a VAST difference between Blu Ray and DVD. It's one step closer to actually being there, really.

Well I own a PS2 (and 1), so if the PS3 controller is similar, then that's the one I prefer. I have briefly held the XBOX one at stores and didn't like them. I really think it comes down to what you were exposed to first, and for me it happened to be the playstation one.

I've taken a look at the games available to each console, and I prefer the PS3 list. I don't like FPS games, mainly because they get me too worked up... :P I much prefer RPGs or weird puzzle games like Braid.

That and as I've said, at this point looks like I don't have a choice, given that XBOX canNOT play games from other regions.

Prices are pretty much similar. Plus, PS3 slim is rather cheap too. I don't think debating from a price stand point will hold water, especially for an xbox (cost for online additives). However, you are right; a gaming PC is definitely the most expensive.

The reason I bought a 360 over a PS3 (or really at all, for that matter) was because Tales of Vesperia was exclusive for it. Then they decided to make it less exclusive and released a superior PS3 version.

Now there is basically zero reason to own a 360 over a PS3.

Hi Mes,

I've got an Xbox 360 and I can't say I've ever been bothered by the fan noise.
I don't have it for a very long time and it still works fine, but I've heard it does break down often. However this seems to only be the case with die hard extremist-gamers that play for days and days on end, just overheating their Xbox thus breaking it.

However I've also heard of 2 such specific gamer fanatics that have burned up 3 Xbox 360s this way, but everytime they got a new one from microsoft when they sent their broken 360 back to microsoft.

Really? I found it great...sort of.

I played it on my PC (didn't like it on the PC) and I was hooked. I've come to conclude that your surroundings can actually enhance or dehance your game. (yes I made a word) I was playing it in a dark room, and I immersed myself into the game and setting. Although I didn't finish it, (it was a pirated copy & messed up often) I would still definitely buy a PS version. I'm looking forward to Heavy Rain.

in my honest opinion its ps3...the reason you see sketchy framerates on ps3 is because the game you have the frame issues with are always multiplatform games.

PS3 exclusive titles have ZERO framerate problems...the reason ps3 doesnt play well with multiplatforms is because the make the game for 360 and do a quick and dirty port to ps3 without usuing the cell processor fully.


Also, I prefer not to pay 60 bucks a year for online gaming, i pay 0 dollars on ps3.

The thing that I DO like about 360 is the controller:

Its heavier
Its more comfy
The triggers are more easy on carpal tunnel sufferers
looks nice

(the d-pad sucks though, ps3 d-pad owns)

The other things I like about 360 is the exclusive titles such as left 4 dead 1 and 2...etc halo 3 gears of war...etc


In my honest opinion though PS3 gets the winner due to its enormous feature list, here are a few things:

- 256 multiplayer games in real time with minimal lag
- upgradable hard drive (not forced to buy sony hd's like 360 does)
- Exclusives: Killzone 2, Uncharted 2, Infamous...etc...etc resistance 2
- Free internet
- Web browser
- Netflix
- Movie rentals
- PSone classics
- Cell processor SPU's
- Comes with chargable controllers no battery buying
- Blu ray, DUH!
- MAG (256 player online)
- Batman AA (exclusive joker DLC)
- Simple to use UI and reliable
- Less system Failures
- No crappy CD-tray
- no ugly giant powersupply on the outside like 360


but to conclude this post

I LOVE both systems in their own ways but prefer ps3, lets not start fanboy wars.

I would prefer PS3 over xbox for a few reasons:
1.) can play divX movies
2.) can play online multiplayer for free
3.) better games
4.) easy to setup and use
5.) doesn't break so easily

Mes T: I've got both systems. I play PS3 a lot more than I play 360. However, my sister, who is a bit of a casual gamer, has played with my 360 more (mainly due to Fable 2 and Saints Row 2). I think you'll be happy with either choice but I'd personally recommend the PS3: the hardware's stable and quiet, it's got a fun library of exclusives and the multiplatforms look and play just fine.

Then again, I'd also advise you to go with what the majority of your friends have got. It's no fun being the odd one out.

yes i have played PSN and nobody talks on it. there is no cooperation between teammates and therefore the gameplay suffers in games where you need to communicate. on the xbox you can jump into a game and the first one you join will be full of people with mics. if you don't like those people, you can find another lobby. easy as that.

we could argue for 13,000 years about these things but like i said many times before it all comes down to personal preference and taste in games/controllers/interfaces. if you want blu ray and free online and you like the games, get the ps3.. if you want good online experience, better community, better controller, better multiplatforms and you like the games, get the 360.

yes the graphics are better. you might have ignored them but there have been comparison videos for almost every multi-platform game and the 360 looks and plays better on mostly all of them. the cell processor was good for marketing and it is slightly better than the processor in the 360 but the 360 has better altogether hardware. look it up, the 360 has better memory, 512 MB as opposed to the 256 on the ps3. that's why the games look and play better.
the xbox 360 has better games than the ps3. i don't care if you are going to say that the ones ported to PC aren't "true exclusives".. i don't play PC games and i don't care which ones are ported to it. i have all the games i want and need on the 360, and nothing on the ps3 interests me other than final fantasy 14.

so you say you have good teammates who co-operate .. well how long did it take you to find them, how many lobbies did you have to go through until you found one with someone talking? on the 360 you jump into a game and 75% of the people in there will have mics. any game with multiplayer is going to be a more enjoyable on the 360.

I'm just going to hop in and say, maybe it's been awhile since you played on the PSN, because I know when I play COD, most matches at least half of the people in the game are using mics, not including myself since I rarely use mine just because I feel like a tool sitting in my bedroom while my family thinks I'm talking to myself. I only use it if I actually have a team that is tactic-oriented, or if I'm playing with friends.

I have to say, that I've never really noticed any game make much use of tactics, regardless of whether everyone on the team has mics or not. I've noticed on Xbox play online, even if everyone has a mic, it's usually just like 6-8 people yelling about how they just got killed, or bragging about how many people they just killed, or telling their teammates how much they suck. Every single person seems to have their own idea of how the team should function, and therefore every person ends up playing individually anyway, and the team doesn't really function tactically then. The only game I've really noticed any difference in, is Left 4 Dead, because it's so focused on being tactical with your team.

That's just what I've noticed over my travels anyway....

I'm actually kinda glad ps3 players talk less on their mics, I cannot stand voice chat and I want to strangle the asshole who invented it.

When I spend 60 bucks on a game I don't want 10 5 year olds screaming about camping on the headsets, I always set the option to MUTE ALL EXCEPT FRIENDS!

sorry but to me voice chat is the most retarted thing in gaming and if you can't play without it you need to go back to quake 1 quake 2 and many other older games which do not feature that annoying voice chat feature.

Most of the time teamwork isn't even discussed over the mics, mostly they chat about why they died or whine and bitch, plus who cares about teamwork....you play to have fun not to start a marine squad.

if you want real teamwork and 'realism' go join the military, don't go and bitch about it on ps3 and 360.

I've owned a 360 since day one and I love the games and online. I only owned a ps3 for a month. I tryed MGS4, UC2, KZ2, oblivion (which I have for 360 too), Demon's Souls, and Motorstorm... and frankly... none of them were good enough to justify me owning both systems. I admit UC2 is awesome, but KZ2 was stale, MGS4 was dissapointing, oblivion was not different than 360, and Demon's Souls required to much time for me. So I choose 360.

when I was a kid the first system I was handed was PSone, then afterwards ps2...so naturally after growing up with PS1-2 I went for ps3 because i never bought the original xbox.

Everyone grows up different, I guess thats why im on ps3 exclusively. I just like sony's products, their exclusives and their controller and the look of the console...I just love it.

Don't get me wrong the 360 looks cool and the controller is nice and comfy too, I just would never buy one because RROD and that for me is the most important reason not to buy a defective piece of hardware.

(not to mention no killzone on 360, no uncharted...no mgs4, no resistance, no infamous which happen to be my favorite games)

Well, though it is a great fps... like I said... it's just an FPS. I went in with my expectations way too high... and then it hit me... it's just a steroided up FPS. So yeah... that's it.

Anyways, the PS3 does have quality games... but not enough to justify my owning two consoles. I thought UC2 was really fun, and demon's souls could be really fun... but really... two games don't justify an entire console. I just stick with my 360... I like the Dashboard, a lot of the games, xbl is solid (not that I've had too much experience with psn), and natal might be kickass. Plus, I'll admit I have a weakness for Elder scrolls, fable, and all things bioware.

PC's easily outclass any console just in the very fact that there video card capabilities are drastically higher. To argue that consoles graphics cards are better than PC's is simply stupid.

XBox 360 has a 500 MHz ATI Xenos. Compare that with the GTX 200.

PC will always dominate in graphics for the simple fact that you can always easily upgrade the card and console game manufacturer's must keep games graphics within limits of the consoles default graphics chipset for most potential distribution.

Also, just because you had a bad experience on PSN doesn't mean that others did. Most people I know are on PSN and I had crappy experience with XBox live. Am I going to glorify that? No.

to onus: dude once again i wasn't comparing the graphical capabilities of the PC vs the xbox.. it's like you're purposely misunderstanding me.. i was comparing the ps3 vs the 360, and the 360 has better specs all together.

the PC of course has better specs better but only if you have the money to get a good one. most people don't have PCs that are spec'd better than consoles. and even if they do, perhaps they prefer the console experience like i said.

if you are one of those people who does NOT have an expensive PC or prefers the console experience, then the 360 is your best option.

the xbox 360 has MORE higher rated games period, ps3's 85s stop at number 73 and 360s stop at 82.
it's simple fact that the 360 plays multi-platforms better.. and if you look at the high rated exclusives on there: orange box, left 4 dead 1 and 2, mass effect 2, halo 3, ODST, forza motorsport 3, fable 2, gears of war 1 and 2, and better multiplatforms with better controller and online experience, the winner is clear! :)

to the argument about killzone: i don't think the ps3 controller handle first person games well. the sticks are too close together and they are too light and snappy, you can't get much precision with them at all.

Can't get much precision? then howcome I have great aiming lols...cmon dude you can't say that the ps3 controller is bad for fps, the ONLY bad thing about the ps3 controller is holding the triggers down for a while for crouching can hurt the fingers because the trigger isn't sticking out like it should like the 360 controller triggers.

with killzone i get noscope headshots across maps so im pretty confident my controller is precise, not to mention ps3 controllers use bluetooth 2.0 wireless instead of the inferior wireless connection of the 360's controller which has a slight delay in response compared to the ps3's bluetooth wireless.

As for 360, it may have more games but lets be honest, would you play 80% of them? I sure wouldn't...not many games interest me unless they are a first person shooter, which limits me to halo and a few other oddball fps's on 360...ps3 seems to have a big abundance of fps games so i went with it for that reason also...i love fps.

also, the ps3 processor is highly superior to the 360 processor, the ps3 has spu's which can process multiple things in real time, just compare killzone2 and uncharted 2 to any 360 game and you will see the processors power.

imo the ps3 has MUCH better specs, not to mention it has xdram,
(half of the entire ram yes i know but the rest of the ram is quick as 360's, making the other half of the ram quicker)
the graphic cards are very close in terms of power and speed so that i'll leave alone but the processor of the ps3 can lessen the load on the video card and squeeze MORE graphics into a game than the 360.

oh and did I forget, 1 360 game holds 7 gigabytes, 1 ps3 game holds 50 gigabytes.

Uncharted 2 on 360 would be technically impossible from a graphical standpoint, even if then bumped it down for 360 it would have to be on 10 discs most likely.

360 also cannot play 1080 p movies via blu-ray discs, 360 cannot play divx movies, 360 cannot browse the internet while listening to music and doing many other things at once while browsing the web all in the ps3 menu.

Also, you cannot upgrade the 360 hard drive with a hard drive of your choice, you have to buy one specifically for 360 from microsuck...for ps3 you can buy a cheap seagate laptop drive and have 1 terrabyte of space for 150 dollars on the ps3....

you also cannot install windows xp or linux on the 360 as the ps3 can.


when you use logic and sense, the only real logical choice is ps3, unless you prefer the 360 exclusives that much, i will say good luck avoiding the red ring of death though.

I will say this though, games such as gta4 and other multiplatforms are better on the 360, not because the 360 is better, its because almost every single multiplatform is made on the 360, and cheaply and lazily ported to ps3, so you cannot blame the ps3 for bad framerates on gta4 and some other MPform games that the devs got lazy with.

blame the lazy ass fat developers who cant code for the ps3 and port 360 games over with no effort.

as for exclusives, they own on ps3 because they are properly made unlike rockstar games sloppy shitport of gta4.

if the developers made uncharted for the 360 and took as long as they did optimizing the graphics it would look just as good if not better.

i'm really not a fanboy. if a console interests me i will buy it, i am not biased to one console just because i have grown up playing early versions or what ever.. the xbox has the games and controller and online i like, so i prefer it.
if the ps3 one day upgraded their controllers, started selling the consoles with mics, and made some games worth playing i would buy it and recommend it in an instant.. but that's just not the case.

Pfft, PS3 is far inferior to Xbox360 concerning games and gameplay experience.

Red ring of death is not a problem if you buy a newer console and keep it appropriately ventilated.

Final Fantasy XIII is coming out for Xbox360 too this year, so huff puff on whoever didn't mention it would.

Seriously, without a bloody doubt, X360 takes the win completely, regional issues are hardly a problem. Blueray is really the only thing I have used PS3 for, everything else sucks, especially user interfaces and controllers. Graphics have always seemed lessser imo in comparison to the X360.

plus like I said earlier, I grew up with ps1 when it came out back in 1995ish when i was a kid, played it up until 2002ish then got a ps2 and played that still to this day, I still play ps1 and ps2 frequently and so naturally i wanted to see how ps3 was and im lucky i went for ps3 because i would have returned 360 within a few days of buying it back in 2007

Most of my friends back home have 360's but i wouldn't budge and went for ps3 instead, you can call me whatever you choose but to me in my mind and in my experience, I have WAY more fun playing ps3 than playing 360, and to me thats really all that matters...which system is more fun?

for me its ps3, I get to watch all my blu ray movies, I get to watch ripped divx films also, I can surf the web and listen to music while waiting for friends to start up a match of killzone 2...and then i proceed to spend 12+ hours having major fun.

I duno but to me, that sounds like ps3 is a winner FOR ME at least.

I have played gears of war 2 on 360 and enjoyed it quite a bit, almost as much as I enjoy call of duty...that might be the only game worth buying 360 for ME, the other games which attract me are left 4 dead 2 since my pc cant handle it, and mass effect 2.

There are a good number of decent games on 360 i'd like to have but, to me its not enough to sway me over to buy one, not to mention im BROKE! lol...

one day when im more well monetarily versed i might buy one, just for a few games though......screw boring rpgs.

Yes, that's true with the Metal Gear Solid Series but that was for Solid Snake and his series. There taking the game to a new direction with a new character (Raiden) so it will most likely be a completely new story where new gamers can join in and follow.

The reason i'd get the new Metal Gear rising game on 360 is because from what I've read its a 360 exclusive, and that ps3 will get its own seperate game exclusive, i saw it on my game informer mag a few months back.

I wouldn't worry, hideo kojima is ocd when it comes to quality, they would never port to ps3 to some 3rd party douchebags like ea does.

What most multiplatforms do today is make the game in 360 because they seem to not understand how to code for the ps3 even though naughty dog codes for ps3 perfectly along with guerilla games coding for ps3 perfectly fine.

EA is lazy and other companies who outsource porting for ps3 versions should have their balls squashed by a 800 pound sumo wrestler's feet.

If they want to do a quick and dirty port instead of a proper like call of duty 5 and 6 they should not bother making a port altogether if they will half ass it.

I applaud infinity ward for porting 360 call of duty to ps3 PERFECTLY, every other company MUST follow infinity wards formula of TAKING YOUR TIME when porting games and testing framerates extensively...

If you guys don't believe me read a local game informer magazine yourself, hideo stated himself on Game informer that only metal gear rising will be making an appearance on the xbox, and he would not make the effort to port such a massive game to such a tiny format such as dvd. (by the port i mean metal gear solid 4 guns of the patriots NOT mg rising)

the 360 metal gear should be interesting, the graphics will be a slight touch less impressive than mgs4 but hideo promised to squeeze as much as he can from the xbox which you can't squeeze it enough to match ps3's graphical capabilities.

Anyway after considering all of the points made in this thread and elsewhere, even if I did have the choice, I think the ps3 would be the way to go for me. The selection of games interest me more, among other things.

But I definitely agree with those who say that comparing the two is not too far from splitting hairs, because in the end, with the right game, either console can be highly enjoyed.

Now Firstly I'm going to give you the exclusive Games with a METACRITIC score of 85+ from each platform.

According to Metacritic, for 2009:

Xbox 360:
Forza Motorsport 3 [92% Good Reviews]

Now the only other contender is Left 4 Dead 2, however considering it is primarily a PC game, it should not truly be counted as an exclusive.

PS3:
Uncharted 2: Among Thieves [96% Good Reviews]
Killzone 2 [92% Good Reviews]
God of War Collection [91% Good Reviews]
Demon's Souls [89% Good Reviews]
InFAMOUS [85% Good Reviews]
Ratchet and Clank Future: A Crack In Time [87% Good Reviews]



So combining this result with multiplatforms, for 2009 the board was essentially sweeped by Sony. Not to mention that previously 360 exclusive titles are consistently coming to PS3, with added features: see Vesperia, Star Ocean, Liberty City Stories.



OK, So that's GAMES for 2009. What about upcoming games? How is 2010 Looking to shape up?

Well it's much more even than last year's essential massacre, However I still feel the PS3 comes out on top.

Now, you may think in terms of quantity these lists look alot closer, which indeed is the case. But let me explain why I feel the PS3 list is the better, and why it will appeal more personally to YOU Mes. Also you Nina.


Let's run through 2010 exclusives one more time, this time considering the style of game:

So what are the trends: Shooting and RPG basically is the deal here.

Now the PS3 list is actually far more interesting, and revolutionary, whilst as you can see the 360 list is stale status quo gaming. (Just look at all them sequels).

Heavy Rain [Practically an interactive and mature movie. The first of it's kind and likely to revolutionise the way we consider Video Games]

Now you must see the difference here. PS3 certinly has it's share of shooters and RPG, but it is alsogoing beyond that this year. Games like MAG, which revolutionises FPS, games like Heavy Rain, which revolutionise gaming, Games like The Last Guardian, which are one of the few instances video games can be considered art.


So as is undeniable, unless you're a shooting loving 13 year old, is that the PS3 is as of now the better choice, without a doubt. This isn't even to mention the pre-2009 games [Metal Gear Solid 4, widely regarded as one of the greatest endings to a series ever].


Now on the other hand, if you do mainly enjoy what you're used to in video games, so shooting and bland fantasy adventures, then choose a 360, because you'll honestly be happier.


OK. So that is games.

What about hardware, other features? Well it's known that the PS3 is the higher-powered piece of kit, due to it's cell processor. It also takes blu-ray discs. What this practically means is that FAR more information can be stored on a disc for a PS3. A good example is Final Fantasy XIII, which is on One disc for the PS3, and 3 discs for the Xbox [even with reduced content].

PS3 has FREE online play, inbuilt WiFi, default wireless controllers, easily chargeable. The Hard Drive is replacable with a typical laptop hardrive, so you can easily upgrade your space.

The Xbox 360 has subscription payed online features, Wired and wireless controllers, and WiFi etc needs to bought seperately from microsoft, at an absurd price.


AN IMPORTANT NOTE REGARDING XBOX 360 HARDWARE: The Xbox is INFAMOUS for it's so called "Red Ring of Death" which can happen any time, and renders the console useless. The current estimated failure rates for the Xbox 360 are as high as "54.2%". Which frankly is absolutely ridiculous. http://blog.seattlepi.com/microsoft/archives/176741.asp

The editor of the leading gaming news website Kotaku.com has himself admitted to having SEVEN xboxes break down so far. Which honestly is absolutely ridiculous, PARTICULARLY for such a shoddy service in the first place.



OK, so we've seen hardware, PS3 won, We've seen Games, PS3 won. The only last thing is PRICE.

Now the PS3 used to be awful here. With a $600 release price it was a disgrace and this is the reason it failed to launch early on in it's lifespan. However last September Sony radically reduced the price of the PS3 and gave it a new model: The PS3 Slim. Now this is as low as $250 on sale new.

The Xbox 360 was always about this price, and now can be got at $199. However when you add on to the retail price the cost of extras that are included with the PS3, such as a Wireless adaptor and online subscription, The Xbox 360 comes out as MORE expensive than the PS3.



So the PS3 at this point in it's life is better in every respect than the Xbox 360.

If you want to play online by the way, you'll find yourself amongst more players of your own age on the PLaystation Network. Surveys have shown the typical age of Playstation owners as consistently higher than 360 owners.

The classic idea of age goes as thus: Wii for ages 0-12, Xbox 360 for ages 12-18, PS3 for ages 18+.

This is also reflected in the games. Wii goes for cartoony happy games, 360 goes for mindless shooting, and PS3 goes for interesting generally "movie-like" games.

Also Xbox LIVE [the xbox online network] Is one of the most horrible places to play ever. I know this from experience, there is a ridiculous amount of foul mouthed 13 years olds, it's frustrating. PSN is significantly better in my experience. Less people have mics, but all that really means is less kids screaming at you.



And finally, the most important aspect is that since I sold my 360 and bought a gaming PC to replace it I only play PS3, and so if either of you buy a PS3, you can play online with me :3


So in short, PS3, there never was another choice. [Also yeah, PS3 games are region free Mes, and far more prevalent in your part of the world]




EDIT: also Blu Ray movies are wonderful, and really should be experienced if you have a HD tv. There's a VAST difference between Blu Ray and DVD. It's one step closer to actually being there, really.

don't get orange box on ps3, thats a bad buy, EA ported the game because the lazy idiots at valve outsourced the porting, bunch of fat gabe newell double chinned farts.

The framerate is abysmal and half-life 2 engine isn't a very 'taxing' engine for a system to run, its just a shit port, total shit.

A page back people were arguing about how easy/hard it is to develope for 360 VS. PS3.

Many developers have expressed their frustration in not only porting games to the PS3, but simply designing games for it. It has very unsavoury hardware compared to the 360. Developers can pump out games, ports, and patches for the 360 REALLY easy.

In fact, the ease of making a game for either console is shown through this one fact.

Look at how many games are released on the 360 my super small developers, and independant developers from overseas etc. Are they good? Usually not, but that's the developers fault not the systems. At least they get them out... any developers short of multi-million dollar companies would choke on how difficult it is to develope for PS3. '

Not that any of this makes the PS3 any lesser of a console... like I've said before, the PS3 is fine... but I just wanted to clear up the 'developement' argument.

If Infinity ward, naughty dog, guerilla games, insomniac games and many many more companies make games properly for the ps3,

then why can't EA and valve and other (lazy asswad) developers make PROPER FREAKING PORTS that don't run at 15 fucking frames per second?

They do not want to even bother spending time or money or resources to even come up with a quality product, so if you can decipher what that means it means they are UNWILLING to produce a quality finished product, which means they are lazy.

I can see us arguing about this one. :O The main point of them IS to further involve you in the experience. Not take you out. I'd say Wii did a pretty good job at that. Which is why in like their (Wii) first few years of sales they beat the ps3 and xbox360 by a landslide.

I agree with you on several points. The biggest of which is that nintendo sucks and doesn't really churn out 5 star games anymore. I'm not supporting the Wii b/c the graphics and games are awesome. That'd be a painstaking lie. I merely mentioned the motion sensor part of the Wii and the Wii's sales as an example that there is definitely a huge market demand for motion controllers. If Microsoft and Sony didn't want the kind of attention gamers gave the Wii b/c of its "motion controlled" feature, then they wouldn't be racing to pump out motion controllers and "no hands controllers" like Microsoft and Sony are BOTH doing now.

Also Mes, yea I totally forgot about how on SDtv's you can't read text in most games, well call of duty isn't that bad on sdtv, or gta4, metal gear solid 4 was a little tricky in SD, what games did you play you had trouble with?

HDTV's are pretty cheap these days, you can get a nice 26'' or smaller for like under 300 bucks now a days.

I highly recommend getting one with proper hdmi cables, sd is just painful with a current gen system, you get less resolution and a narrow view because sdtv's are in 4:3 and HDTV's are 16:9


Oh yea hmm, I wonder if component cables instead of the RYW (red yellow white) would maybe give a sharper picture?

I know for a fact that the default wires are usually not great, component has like 4 wires for video and 2 for audio and it seems to give a better picture on my tv for my ps2.

Now Firstly I'm going to give you the exclusive Games with a METACRITIC score of 85+ from each platform.

According to Metacritic, for 2009:

Xbox 360:
Forza Motorsport 3 [92% Good Reviews]

Now the only other contender is Left 4 Dead 2, however considering it is primarily a PC game, it should not truly be counted as an exclusive.

PS3:
Uncharted 2: Among Thieves [96% Good Reviews]
Killzone 2 [92% Good Reviews]
God of War Collection [91% Good Reviews]
Demon's Souls [89% Good Reviews]
InFAMOUS [85% Good Reviews]
Ratchet and Clank Future: A Crack In Time [87% Good Reviews]



So combining this result with multiplatforms, for 2009 the board was essentially sweeped by Sony. Not to mention that previously 360 exclusive titles are consistently coming to PS3, with added features: see Vesperia, Star Ocean, Liberty City Stories.



OK, So that's GAMES for 2009. What about upcoming games? How is 2010 Looking to shape up?

Well it's much more even than last year's essential massacre, However I still feel the PS3 comes out on top.

Now you must see the difference here. PS3 certinly has it's share of shooters and RPG, but it is alsogoing beyond that this year. Games like MAG, which revolutionises FPS, games like Heavy Rain, which revolutionise gaming, Games like The Last Guardian, which are one of the few instances video games can be considered art.


So as is undeniable, unless you're a shooting loving 13 year old, is that the PS3 is as of now the better choice, without a doubt. This isn't even to mention the pre-2009 games [Metal Gear Solid 4, widely regarded as one of the greatest endings to a series ever].


Now on the other hand, if you do mainly enjoy what you're used to in video games, so shooting and bland fantasy adventures, then choose a 360, because you'll honestly be happier.


OK. So that is games.

What about hardware, other features? Well it's known that the PS3 is the higher-powered piece of kit, due to it's cell processor. It also takes blu-ray discs. What this practically means is that FAR more information can be stored on a disc for a PS3. A good example is Final Fantasy XIII, which is on One disc for the PS3, and 3 discs for the Xbox [even with reduced content].

PS3 has FREE online play, inbuilt WiFi, default wireless controllers, easily chargeable. The Hard Drive is replacable with a typical laptop hardrive, so you can easily upgrade your space.

The Xbox 360 has subscription payed online features, Wired and wireless controllers, and WiFi etc needs to bought seperately from microsoft, at an absurd price.


AN IMPORTANT NOTE REGARDING XBOX 360 HARDWARE: The Xbox is INFAMOUS for it's so called "Red Ring of Death" which can happen any time, and renders the console useless. The current estimated failure rates for the Xbox 360 are as high as "54.2%". Which frankly is absolutely ridiculous. http://blog.seattlepi.com/microsoft/archives/176741.asp

The editor of the leading gaming news website Kotaku.com has himself admitted to having SEVEN xboxes break down so far. Which honestly is absolutely ridiculous, PARTICULARLY for such a shoddy service in the first place.



OK, so we've seen hardware, PS3 won, We've seen Games, PS3 won. The only last thing is PRICE.

Now the PS3 used to be awful here. With a $600 release price it was a disgrace and this is the reason it failed to launch early on in it's lifespan. However last September Sony radically reduced the price of the PS3 and gave it a new model: The PS3 Slim. Now this is as low as $250 on sale new.

The Xbox 360 was always about this price, and now can be got at $199. However when you add on to the retail price the cost of extras that are included with the PS3, such as a Wireless adaptor and online subscription, The Xbox 360 comes out as MORE expensive than the PS3.



So the PS3 at this point in it's life is better in every respect than the Xbox 360.

If you want to play online by the way, you'll find yourself amongst more players of your own age on the PLaystation Network. Surveys have shown the typical age of Playstation owners as consistently higher than 360 owners.

The classic idea of age goes as thus: Wii for ages 0-12, Xbox 360 for ages 12-18, PS3 for ages 18+.

This is also reflected in the games. Wii goes for cartoony happy games, 360 goes for mindless shooting, and PS3 goes for interesting generally "movie-like" games.

Also Xbox LIVE [the xbox online network] Is one of the most horrible places to play ever. I know this from experience, there is a ridiculous amount of foul mouthed 13 years olds, it's frustrating. PSN is significantly better in my experience. Less people have mics, but all that really means is less kids screaming at you.



And finally, the most important aspect is that since I sold my 360 and bought a gaming PC to replace it I only play PS3, and so if either of you buy a PS3, you can play online with me :3


So in short, PS3, there never was another choice. [Also yeah, PS3 games are region free Mes, and far more prevalent in your part of the world]




EDIT: also Blu Ray movies are wonderful, and really should be experienced if you have a HD tv. There's a VAST difference between Blu Ray and DVD. It's one step closer to actually being there, really.

Maybe your SD is a good tv still even though its 480Interlaced at best

My old sd had trouble with blurry text but the game itself looked just fine.

Yeah it's great for a SD, the game looks terrific, I can read the dialog text in dragon age more or less fine but... ANYthing else, like menus, little item descriptions, etc, are near impossible.

I think I just might need to buy a small hdtv for this. Which, I repeat, is BULL! :P

Nah thats not bull, its sort of an incentive to buy an hdtv, plus then you can enjoy amazing blu ray films, you know you want to watch a movie in 1080p or 720p

When I got my PS3 I bought the console at around 360$ or so, the Fatty version with GTA4 and MGS4 and then bought the 26'' tv for about 299 a dynex, SWEET and cheap tv, does 720p and looks great.

Xbox360 is better, PS3 is ughhhhh, if they redid the user interface, the web browser, the controller and the design problems, I would be a fanboy, but they won't, so huff. Just make a new console I say, that has all the features of PS3, but fixes those elements. Also, someone needs to make a remote that can be used like the Wii remote, but with a small inbuilt qwerty keyboard -- point, click, type, enter.

As it stands though, Xbox360 is a better choice if you're only interested in the gaming side of it. PS3 has more functionality and potential, but lacks the required user-friendliness and ease to support all that it is. The graphics are potentially better, but not smoother, mostly bad anti-aliasing is what I experience with PS3. The 360 has more graphics potential than most give credit for, and more than most developers will design for. Halo: Reach is coming out soon, that will be loveliness.

I havn't had any problems with;
- browser; I've watched good youtube toons on there
- user-interface; what are you guys talking about? Just because it's not what you're used to doesn't mean it's bad. I've used dashboard and ps3 and have no problem with either.
- controller; this is preference really. Honestly, I much prefer the ps3 controller.. also, how do you charge your controllers again..? How good is the wireless capability? Bluetooth? Six-axis? Vibration to boot? Yeah, exactly.

Further, if we learned anything from the Sega vs. Nintendo saga, it is that boasting better graphics is not a bonus to a console. It is the games that make it.

Oh but wait.. the mass majority of games in the world are on both systems.

Xbox for Fable - which is not as good as oblivion anyway. I really do not see any other good exclusives; no ones mentioning any. Any shooter you mention is shamed by MW2; which is on all systems. As well as the upcoming BC2.

Omg did someone say mw2 the best fps, imo its heavily flawed by campers and glitches, not to mention spawning in front of enemies just to die again, its fun at times but you really gotta admit its not a 'great' game.
All the recoils are near zero, it seems like every gun kills too easily and there seems to be no difference in feel between weapons unlike cod4 which was amazing.

IMO the best shooter is Killzone 2, even though it came out oh almost 1 year ago.

PS3 has too many flaws, that's all my problem is with it. It certainly has more games, and many gems that sadly go un-found for users solely on 360.
The controller drives me nuts, it does not have enough substance to it, does not fit into your hand perfectly or have triggers which feel much more comfortable. The positioning of the d-pad and thumb-sticks is inferior to the 360's controller, they take more time to reach and feel slightly clumsy in comparison -- and I have played just as much PS in my life as Xbox360.

As for the UI on the PS3, it is more linear than 360, but lack of readable titles to the menus are definitely not user-friendly, the icons are mostly confusing.
Xbox defines every section of the UI, and integrates online content seamlessly with easily recognisable pictures and large titles. Annoying that you can't see everything so broadly like you can with PS3, combining the best concepts of both would be excellent -- not happening though. Still, the Xbox360 UI is more informative and beginner friendly than the PS3, where there's a greater learning curve.

Also yeah, most Xbox users I know are/were halo fans.
