Nope, basically you just clear your thoughts... I'm not that experienced but yeah it's a matter of clearing your brain out and such... at least that's zen meditation I believe.

Yeah meditation is great, the feeling I get after a deep meditation is so unbelievably uplifting, I really should try and do it more often.

I think I remember reading a scientific explanation about it somewhere, although this is from memory so I might be wrong. Basically the article talked about how our brains operate at different frequencies at different times, eg awake, asleep, concentrating etc. Also, at any given time different sections of our brains are performing different tasks, and what meditation does is unify the different parts of our brain at the same frequency etc etc.

Whatever the scientific explanation is, meditation is great for relaxing, improving concentration, feeling good and escaping from the stresses of ordinary life. I think the most accurate description of meditation is that it is 'like going on a holiday to a tropical paradise, only in your mind.'

I think the 'floating' or levitating stereotype of meditation probably came about because sometimes meditation does actually feel like you're floating around, probably close to astral projection. Anyway, if you've been thinking about meditation, my advice is to try it, you'll be surprised

I've wanted to meditate on a regular basis but I can't stay awake. I think I get too relaxed and my brain goes right into sleep-mode. Even in a sitting position. I wish I knew what to do about it - to get relaxed enough for the meditation to be worth while without knocking myself out.

I've only done a bit of reading on meditation, but from what I've read, the "proper" way to meditate is to sit down with your legs crossed, keep your back completely straight/stiff, eyes open, staring straight ahead (NOT slightly up or down, completely level), mouth only slightly open, and your tongue touching the roof of your mouth. Your arms can be tucked in your lap, on your knees, at your sides, doesn't really matter as long as they're relaxed. Maintaining this position should prevent you from falling asleep.

Yeah, I find that after I've been meditating a lot that simply sitting in the position starts to make me feel calm, it's great. Also, having a little bit of caffiene (like maybe sipping on a cup of tea) can help to stay awake a little better, but make sure it's not too much or you won't be able to concentrate. Personally I love to go for a run or have some kind of exercise and then meditate afterwards, it's great.

      Please say you are joking

I guess meditaion doesn't really differ that much from just relaxing the fuck out =)

I hope you don't mean that literally. But after about 15 minutes of meditation, I tend to start losing bodily awareness - that can sometimes feel like floating. Meditation, however, is not an anti-gravity device.

There are two kinds of Meditation. Useless Meditation and Kundalini Meditation.

The Useless Meditation is the kind that emphasizes clearing one's thoughts or mumbling endless mantras. Isn't easier to just watch TV or play with a video game. And often much cheaper. I haven't looked into the going rates to TM lately, but I don't suspect they are giving it away yet.

Kundalini Meditation, on the other hand, is the awakening and raising of one's Supernatural and Spiritual Energies. In increases Health, Intelligence, and Spirituality. It makes one better both physically and morally.

Ofcourse, the various Kundalini Cults charge for their Yoga also.

But one can learn how to take what one cannot afford to buy.

I once read in the Upanisads that "in the presence of a God or Saint, the Third Eye Chakra will open". In a Dream one would experience an open Chakra as a blossoming of Light, but in waking life, an open chakra makes itself known as a slight pressure -- like a painless headache.

If you want an effective Meditation, then visit arenas and venues where one can hope to meet Spiritually Evolved people. Any of the Shaktipat Gurus would do (Gurus who claim to transmit Spiritual Power by their Touch or by their Sight). But many very spiritual people simply have open Chakras because of their advanced state of Evolution. All you need to do is get in the same room with such a person, and if you have a slight feeling of pressure in your forehead, then concentrate on it and hold onto that feeling. Bring you attention back to that feeling and build upon it, and do it often, until you are sure that you have lit the fire and it will stay lit.

If you can do that much, then PM me and I will let you know the next steps in the process.

      zing!

I don't know about anyone else, but I kinda like the "useless meditation", and it seems to have a lot of benefits: decreasing stress, attaining a higher degree of mental control, being better prepared for medieval battle, etc

I don't think any meditation is nessasarily useless but I would agree that too much, without balance, or the wrong approach to meditation could be useless.

Far as I know there is 2 types of meditation.

One type is active meditation, and the other type is receptive.
The receptive type of meditation is the clearing of thoughts. This is useful to help you calm your mind and discipline it a bit. So you learn to bring it under your control and not be so much be controlled by it. Bringing yourself into more clarity and balance. The other uses of this type of meditation involve the recieving of energies. It brings you into closer alignment and as a result greater health basically.

The other type. Active meditation is sort of like anything you do. Mantras etc are useful when you know what your doing because all that is created comes from certain vibrations. And words of vibrations have an effect. For example "OMMMMM" is used to destroy any negative or abstructive energy.

Anyway this type of meditation (active) you do when you practice the guitar or sing even, or any sport. Just any skill you would become good at. You can contemplate on certain statements of truth also or questions that you have. Through active meditation generally it is a way to expand your consiousness and ability.

It's like anything you work at really. If you use your mind alot. It will become stronger, more powerful and more efficient. If you work out your muscles with grow stonger. Same with you mind.

The use of meditation is like a spiritual work out. It has physical and mental advantages in your life. There is alot of people who understand the importance and usefullness of it and are trying to intergrate in into their lives to some degree. And they as a result are generally in better shape than those do not know what it is or for what purpose you would need it. Although we all have our different opinions about what it does for us and the details of it.

But anyway do you float you say? Maybe not physically. But like in any dream or visualisation your mind can create and discover some interesting experiences. As most members of dreamviews I gather are well aware.
