When I say the US, what do you think of? Do you think of the people or of the government? I noticed a lot of people think of the US as of The US government. Like when someone says they hate bush a person will reply "You just hate the US". No, thats not what they said, bush isn't the US, hes a small part of it. Or someone will say "This war is stupid our government is full of morons" and a person will reply "If you hate the US so much why don't you leave?". Well they never said they hated the US, only the government.

If the department of agriculture screws me over, I am totally in my right to complain. They are there to serve me and if they don't, they are not doing their job. The department of defence is there to defend me, if I am not happy with them I have a right to have my voice heard.

Some people act like the government is perfect but that is just stupid. It makes mistakes all the time, it has idiots and believe it or not theres actually people in the government who think they are the boss of you. If the government never abused its powers then why do we have a supreme court? They over turn stuff all the time and guess what? Each time its because someone was unjustly arrested by our own government. Most cops are nice but I bet everyone has also seen overly aggressive cops as well and theres reports of them drawing guns on kids and stuff. Perfect? Far from it.

Thats not a bash against our country and its not a bash against our government, its just the facts. It doesn't matter how ugly the truth is, the truth is still the truth and it should be told. If part of the government is corrupt, that does not mean the entire government is corrupt. If part of the government is corrupt, that doesn't mean the US is corrupt. If part of the government is corrupt that means part of it is out of control and must be dealt with.

The US isn't made up of the executive branch, the legislative branch and the judicial branch. Its made up of you, your friends and family and your neighbors. Your first loyalty should be to the people not to the government. If your a patriot you do not blindly follow the government where it leads you. If your a patriot you do what is right for the country not the government.

Every other country in the world, the people serve its government. The government grants the people their rights and ultimately they are the ones truely in charge. The US is supposed to be the different. The government is supposed to serve us, we are in control of the government, it does what we tell it to do not what it feels is best for us. The government does not give us our rights, we have them from just being born here and the government can never take them away.

If I talk about the US I mostly talk about the government. If I talk about america I can talk about the government, but allso sometimes about american citizens' morals and such.

Yes, no government is perfect. One important factor needed to keep a government as good as can be, is critisism. The public should have actual power to critisise the policy, and force a change.

Without such an 'insurace' the government is all-powerfull in between ellections, and courts can be bribed. Every citizen can not be bribed, only with lies that hopefully some will see though and critize about. -> Free media is the key to a controlled government.

Yes. There are perhaps a few million america I really totally like and agree with. And it could be 99%, but that doens't matter if that 1% is doing all the bad things, on a huge scale. I don't hate the american people, I hate the american government and it's effect On the american people.

Agreed. However you should love and respect everyone in your country, and actually bebeond, equally. Still, a bit of patriotism is great, have pride in your work, have pride in your country, but don't think you are better then others for it.

The people serve the government? You seem badly informed. I quite frankly have the impression the dutch government serves me. They give me money, they will ask some tax but hey, I get good roads and safety back for it, and I can't think of many thinks I like but are illegal.

Oh and yes, the american government is in control of it's citizens.

If there was one thing everyone should get mad about and work togather to change, its that statement. Because to be honest its true and everyday that goes by it becauses more undeniable.

the government doesnt tell me when or where i can spit. They dont have control over me (freedom).

What kind of control are you talking about. The draft? Thats about it, besides laws

      the jealosy continues

have you ever been to America, neuro. If not, you have no idea what kind of control our gov. has over us. All you have is opinions and propaganda. So your opinion is all speculation.

Its like the cool thing to do to make fun of America in Europe. You get some kind of sick joy out of it.
Plus, we are the highlight of the world. Nobody ever hears about France and their foreign policy. Just America. Because our country is "the center of the world". I dont say that to be cocky, its the truth!!! Everything we do affects you, and through generations, your people get sick of it, so they complain. Dont worry, i forgive you. The truth is Europe needs the American lifestyle. We buy like crazy and send tourists to your quaint little countires because they "like to explore". Many economies depend on us.

ps. If america sucks so bad, then why do your countries keep loosing citizens to us?

Thats exactly it, the laws. How can you say except laws? Thats the main way of controling people and I could give you a huge list.

Obvious example are the laws on drug use. The US has a higher percentage of people in jail than any other country in the world. The majority of people in jail are in there for minor drug charges. The simple fact is that the government has said your not allowed to do what you want with your own body. They restrict your freedom to do what you wish. While doing drugs is stupid and I would never try them a person should have the right to do as they wish as they do not harm anyone. Now if you get caught driving while on drugs, or you steal money for drugs, thats different, you should go to jail. But if you sit in your home with no one around and you light up some pot, you should be free to do so.

So there you go, a limit on our freedom, that effects us in a major way. Do you need more examples? That is just the most obvious one, theres a lot more.

funny thing is, in america, if all you do is sit at home high, no one bothers you. because the reality is, out of sight, out of mind. true it is against the law, and there are alot of people in jail for it, but there are ALOT MORE people doin it right now, and they will never hear a word about it.

Exactly, so why are some people rotting in jail for it when so many other people do it? Just because they are not sneaky enough when they go out to buy it?
