Tofu is the Devil's poop.
well what am i suppose to do with it?Quote:
And why would you be eating plain tofu.
You need to prepare it, marinate it in sauces, fry it, etc etc. What you need to do is go try some Thai food - they prepare their tofu excellently.
Thai food btw is probably the best vegetarian food I've ever had. :D (That's not to say that Thai food is vegetarian as a rule or anything. In restaurants, they give you a choice between beef, chicken, or tofu.)
i did fry it, tasted the same.Quote:
fry it
we don't have any restaurants that served tofu. we have a Mcdonalds, Burger King, Wendie's and a Taco bell.Quote:
Go to a restaurant.
The colorado mountains.
I've often wanted to go vegetarian. But, being raised eating meat it's pretty tough to give it up. I've never made it more than about two months or so before giving in. It would probably help if I had a good vegetarian cook book.
I don't know the best way to live that kind of life style.
Well, just buy a book then :p
I've been vegan for 2 months, I learned quite a bit about vegan cooking and diet that I can still incorporate even though I'm now a meathead.
I've been a vegetarian all my life.
Well, not a vegan. A lacto-ovo vegetarian -- milk and eggs. Though I hate eggs.
Ever since my grandfather had a heart attack last summer, my family's been trying to eat healthier still and go vegan. There is now an abundance of soymilk in our refrigerator, and for a while we tried giving up cheese...
seriously, that's impossible...
Anyhow, though, the food you eat really does affect you. I go to a private school, and the cafeteria only serves vegetarian food because our (Christian) religion promotes healthy eating as a good way to preserve the temple of your body. Along with just basic good health practices. Like not catching knives when they're falling, or touching hot stoves. Or smoking/drinking. :P
Of course, the caf food is really oily... so it kinda defeats the purpose. Everybody, even the meateaters at our school, is trying to get that fixed 'cuz even the "meatheads" realize that veggie eating is healthier. As long as it's made right.
Cuz seriously, if you just dump a gallon of oil on your vegetables then it's no healthier.
And about the best vegetarian foods: Thai and Italian cuisine are the best.
Re Tofu:
Tofu is a vehicle for flavor, not the flavor itself. It's greatest assest is that is absorbs sauces, spices, and flavors wonderfully. It's nothing I'd want to eat plain.
If you really want to ease in slowly, try the fried variety with peanut sauce at most Thai restaurants.
Mes did you change the colors of your avatar?
I like it. :goodjob2:
I should try Thai sometime.
Mushrooms are amazing.
there are no thai restaurants where i liveQuote:

Ha I know, my Chinese friends say the same thing. Even though the place I get my food is from a Chinese restaurant run by Chinese people, who are immigrants. (Yeah I live in NY) But I'm sure it's still "American Chinese Food."
When I've traveled, I'v noticed a significant difference between the food in the states. So maybe it gets more and more American? I don't know, lol.
I think you can thank Chef Boyardee--he sold America on its first 'ethnic' food by simplifying Italian dishes until they were assembly-line reproducible and teaching people to pronounce a few of them. Chinese take-out, Tex-Mex, Thai, Pan-Asian and the rest pretty much followed suit. Most of those places even if they're not franchises still just about come in a box. They're more brands based on other cuisines than anything anyone in those countries ever actually ate.
