      Everyone, buy euros NOW

Better safe than sorry! I am genuinely worried for this year as the dollar plummets and food/gas prices raise. I myself am Canadian and worried for my American Cousins, while at the same time worried for my country wondering how America's economic downfall might affect us, and potentially the world. For a while now I've had this instinct that something big was going to happen in 2008, and its safe to say that with all this evidence for a depression, this instinct may be warning me about this. I believe you should trust your instincts, its what makes animals run from danger when its about to come, and its what mothers feel when thier child is in danger.

Yes I have another post about this, but I feel specially inclined to warn people of something that may (or may not) happen, in any case, history has taught us to be prepared, to expect the unexpected. The thing is, the mass media (which is controlled by only about 6 corporations, including time warner, which indirectly is controlled by the gov't) does not want the public to find out about this and panic. i don't want you to panic either, but i want you to be safe with your money. Buy Euros now while you dollar still has worth and can afford to buy money backed up by gold. (this is in the case that America's economic downfall doesn't lead the world into the same recession)

Large investors are starting bank runs. If they have the knowledge to save thier wealth, so should YOU! Don't wait until its too late, even if it never happens.

      Be careful guys.

Don't be too confident in the Euro, the global market is slowing down due to the US economy being in a recession, UK is in recession now, italy soon, they pay about 8 dollars a gallon for gasoline there when converted from liters, but when converted to euros its still about 5-7 euro's a gallon of gas which is sooooo overpriced.

Europe is headed for some tough times soon also, along with Asia, and Africa and many many other nations that rely on international trade and economies.

Sure, its a good investment now for the euro but, soon many currencies will be weak and the need for a 1 world currency will be discussed, entailing a 1 world government eventually, which is the epitome of tyranny...

yea so my advice to you all:

      Get drunk,stoned,high,twised,ripped

why? the good times are coming to an end very shortly, enjoy yourself while you can!

Hmm. Not surprising that a lot of countries are affected. However, remember that "recession" doesn't mean anything close to "depression." You can be in a recession and just be a bit uncomfortable rather than in any real trouble.

thats true Mes, but what if we slip into one? the last depression was a total unpredictable thing, well the bankers planned it but, the rest of the people didn't have a freaking clue, like us all today, who knows when the FED will pull the plug again and crash the stock market, when the 1st depression happened the FEd and their buddies all pulled their cash outta banks and whatnot and they became very rich.

History repeats itself, but does anyone notice?

That's a HUGE difference there - Heading towards one and being in one.

People have been saying the UK is heading to a recession for the past 3/4 years! As have they been predicting a property crash, but all that has happened is prices increasing exponentially, and the value of the pound increasing.

Out of interest, what is your source? I am interested because I work for one of the largest financial institutions in the UK, so usually get pretty good first hand information on this sort of thing

There is going to be a severe problem with properties and the Pound if you UK'ers keep buying cheaper homes out of the UK.

Because unless you outright buy the property in cash, the money being spent does not go into UK circulation.

Yeah, and people have been predicting that America has been heading toward a recession for the last 3/4 years. Great point Adam. <sarcasm> The signs all point to it.

Now I happen to be a peak oiler, so I don't think it's anything that can be fixed. Which is to say it's inevitable.

For anyone that's concerned about the canadian economy by the way (especially how the US will affect it), our current economic success is mostly tied into our vast exploitation of natural ressources, and our trading of these with developping nations, so we don't have too much to worry about.

Recessions are pretty normal parts of the cycle, you know. There are reasons to worry, but "OMG recession" is not the biggest one. It's felt a little bit more now because they aren't raising interest rates like they normally would. This is presumably because of the housing bubble and the silly people who took variable-rate mortgages they would not be able to afford...

the bankers who are in charge of printing money will profit from a depression. The bankers who print money are the ones who created the first depression in the 30's, and now I'm sure they will do the same, to somehow manipulate the U.s and possibly the world into doing things we normaly wouldn't do.
