Would Obama Be a Shoe-In If He Were White?

Sorry about that rant there, I kinda got carried away.

As for whether or not baracks race will lose him the presidency, I really can't say. I live in California, and I think we're quite open minded as far as black/white is concerned, but I'm disappointed with the increasing californian/mexican hate.
I think its also foolish of me to assume that the rest of the country is as "progressive" (if u can call it that) as CA in regards to race. I think that there are many more people who will be affected by the obvious neo-con fear tactics-- use of his middle name, rumors of islam, socialist/"most left wing senator" kinda stuff.

My dad is pretty logical, but conservative, and he falls into that kind of thinking, and it amazes me, especially since its all been disproved, aside from the ridiculousness of the idea, that he would believe in some sort of islamo-conspiracy

Anyway, I'm done ranting for now I promise

If anyone didn't notice, we live in a controlled dictator ship. We are not living in a democracy. Sorry to say.

I agree. Though nowhere in our constitution does it mention our government being founded on democracy. It's a constitutional republic.

If Obama were white, none of us would have ever heard of him.

As much as I trash Obama because he sucks so bad, I do see value in the fact that a black person has gone so far in politics. That much by itself is a great thing. For the first time in American history, a major party's presidential candidate is black. That alone is progress. However, I think it is really unfortunate that it has to be somebody with so little experience and such an unproven record on top of being so personally involved with people who absolutely despise the United States and have even attacked us. It is too bad that when we finally reach an age where a black person can be a major presidential candidate, it has to be somebody like that. Not only will he most likely not be elected. If he is elected, he will be an embarrassment and will make it much harder for black people to be major candidates in upcoming decades. If somebody like Condoleeza Rice, Colin Powell, or Walter Williams had reached the level instead, I would consider it much greater progress and would know that their potential presidencies could open the big door and make it stay open permanently. An Obama presidency would just close the door back and lock it for a while.

Yeah who came up with the idea that we live in a democracy?

The only real democracy i know of was ancient greece....

As said before, I don't think it will cost him the race, but it might cost him his life. :(

I, regretfully, think it will cost him the race. I think I read somewhere recently that McCain had passed him in votes or something. Unfortunately, there are still quite a few racists in our country. I know where I live in the country there are quite a few racists. I really do hope Obama wins though, I don't agree with some of McCain's views and I really don't like that Palin character.

Direct Democracy in the Federal Republic of Switzerland

Pretty much the closest thing to a true democracy the modern world has.

The Patriot Act wouldn't have lasted 24 hours under this system of government. If I ever get fed up with Australia's pandering to the US in the future, this is the place I'm moving to.
