Got 90 minutes? Ken Miller's lecture on evolution

I came across this a couple weeks ago and thought it was really interesting. I located it on Youtube and decided to share it with all of you.

He is very articulate and manages to keep this student lecture pretty engaging throughout (IMHO). Anyway, you can discuss it here if you like but I really just wanted to bring it to the attention of whoever may be interested.

Fine if people what to made 'god and evolution' compatible.

But the actual question religious people have is "okay, we give up, evolution is just to clearly a fact, how can we change our religion so it is compatible with the facts again?"

Like they had to do after Copernicus. Just ignore some of the bible verses that say the earth is 'unmovable' and the sun 'stopped'. Same can be done with evolution, just ignore that horrible and unfriendly first testament altogether. Really, I am in favour for it. Let religions give in, and face the facts of science. Just a matter of time before nothing of the oppressive, bullshit-medieval Christianity is left.

Ponder this for a moment, because this is why people cling to Genesis even though its completely ridiculous.

      - If you accept evolution, you have to throw out Genesis.
      - If you throw out Genesis, you throw out Adam and Eve.
      - If you throw out Adam and Eve, you throw out the story of the talking snake, the apple from the Tree of Knowledge and the concept of Original Sin (this is the important part) that is inherited by every human being alive today.
      - If you throw out all that, then you have to throw out the Resurrection.

Why throw out the Resurrection you say?

Because Jesus died for 'our' sins, mostly for the big one - Original Sin. So if Genesis never happened (or the Church or the moderates claims that part is metaphorical or allegorical), then the entire reason behind the Resurrection is completely bogus and without the promise of eternal life after death, Christianity becomes a moral guide and self help course based on bad literature with poor fact checking. Salvation is the money shot here.

This is why the South shits itself when its forced to teach evolution in schools.

lol. Exactly. There would be nothing left for Christianity to be. Unless if somehow, you make up something like 'some parts of the bible were symbolical' and 'god put souls in humans somewhere in evolution'. Or something silly. But if you don't, Christianity is just an empty doctrine. Which would would at least mean probably the fuckers don't ban stem-cell research and education and such. That is why I rather see 100 Christians that believe in evolution than 1 that doesn't. Or something.

The metaphysically-empty moral guidelines of 'Christianity', or at least of what it has become after profiting of 300 years of enlightenment, civil rights and women rights, are a step forward in comparison to fundamentalist gay-hating, women-discriminating bigots.
