Personal Use of Marijuana by Responsible Adults Act of 2009

      Authored by Barney Frank..

Send your support, call your rep.

Congressman Barney Frank (D-Mass.) introduced legislation today to remove criminal penalties for marijuana possession at the federal level. The Personal Use of Marijuana by Responsible Adults Act of 2009 would remove penalties for possession of up to 3.5 ounces of marijuana and the not-for-profit transfer of 1 ounce.

Congressman Frank’s legislation seeks to bring federal law in line with reality. 99% of all marijuana arrests occur at the state and local level. In practice, federal laws prohibiting marijuana possession act as a deterrent to states that may want a more sensible policy. Congressman Frank’s bill would remove that deterrent and push U.S. marijuana policy in the right direction.

The bill’s introduction comes amidst unprecedented momentum for reform, but it will still face significant opposition in Congress — so please visit mpp.org/federal-action and take action today!

This was that cult, and the prisoners said it had always existed and always would exist, hidden in distant wastes and dark places all over the world until the time when the great priest Cthulhu, from his dark house in the mighty city of R'lyeh under the waters, should rise and bring the earth again beneath his sway.

So it will still be illegal on the state level, just not the federal level?

Well this pretty much is just lip service/trying to get positive attention in a crisis, instead of really allowing true medical/drug freedom. If 99% of all marijuana cases are at the state and local levels, then why even bother? Sure i would only support this bill for the one reason that it would take restrictions off at the federal level, but please people do not praise barney frank for being the drug hero for this.

I have a challenge for you. Research whatever you want to research and come back to me with the answer to the following question. In the history of the world, how many people have died from marijuana overdose?

I know marijuana has some bad effects, but how exactly is it "dangerous", according to you? Do you similarly think alcohol and tobacco should be illegal? Look up the death statistics on those. Look up the violence statistics on alcohol. Look up the drunk driving death statistics. Are you ready for alcohol to be banned again?

It gets the ball rolling. States will be more likely to legalize marijuana if their bills are not pressured and overridden by federal laws.

I think that this was supposed to be a shot at sarcasm, but it didn't come across so well.

It's less dangerous than most legal drugs if you ask me. If I drank alcohol every day for 2 years I'd be in a much worse state than I am in now. I'd also have less money. But you must be joking.

That being said, honestly, it's better to just stay off all drugs. Even caffeine, sugar and chocolate. I do my best to avoid them, sugar is pretty much impossible, caffeine and chocolate are fairly easy to avoid though.

Because then states are free to legalize/decriminalize without the feds fucking with their citizens as has been the case in california. "All good things in all good time."

The DEA are a federal agency right? What will this do with their involvement in marijuana related crimes?

My take is that from what we know, it would be minimal. They wouldn't mess around with three pounds let alone three oz. If I'm not mistaken though, obama instructed all federal agencies to make herb their lowest priority.

That depends on how much you drink, your body type, and any pre-existings conditions you may have.

One drink a day has been shown to be beneficial for the human body when it has fully developed.

I also learned in that class that Marajuana takes over 400 hits to be physically addictive, and that it is the most mild of illegal drugs (possibly the legal ones too, I cannot remember).

And this is Barney Frank? I only remember this guy From this video. Not the best thing to be remembered by.

They don't listen, they will continue to "crack" down on pot... until their funding is cut.

Word. Legization would remove most drug dealers off the streets, therefor lowering the chances for a kid to get his hands on it.
It will also remove the chance of laced marijuana.
The states would tax billions off it.
The paper industry would save billions too by using hemp for paper.
Courts wouldnt have to waste their damn time for a dude holdin a nick in his shoe.
Marijuana smuggling and drug terrorism will stop.

      I can keep going.

Interesting and relevant piece of information on BBC news last night: Portugal decriminalised all drugs some time ago, and there has now been a large reduction in consumption and death (from overdose and HIV).
