Thread: No cussing club.... hmmm

Since the video doesn't say anything about the death threats, and I needed to look it up to make sure it was true, I thought I'd save you all the trouble;

On the one hand I think its silly that he is receiving death threats. A bunch of 15 year old kids who want something to complain about think they can sound righteous by claiming he's suppressing their right to free speech. A, he's not suppressing anything and B, they don't have any rights, they are minors (funny because its true). I doubt their are any adults involved in threatening him, but if there are, that is truly sad.

On the other hand though, it does seem like he is just regurgitating his parents beliefs, not much differently than the kids of jesus camp and whatnot. They wrote a book on the subject and he just happens to feel strongly about it; go figure.

I'd also like to point out that although South Pasadena is in L.A. county, it is not part of the City of L.A. There is actually a difference.

Anyone with half a brain could figure out doing something like this is going to cause more problems then it helps. Not only to him, but now more people are going to curse more often just because.

A curse word can be bad or good.

For instance i could say "Thats really fucking cool"

Which would be positive.

On the other hand i could say, "Your a F... Loser" (to that kid)

Which would be a negative way to use a curse word...

He would have been better off starting a club that preaches respect and treating others better, then trying to tell people how they should talk and live.

Me crew of pirates would laugh themselves half to death if they ever heard of this.

At least we can clearly be sayin that these lads have ruled out almost every maritime career ye can conceive of.

It is pretty silly. I kind of agree with the message though. But only because I think curse words have more of an impact if you save them up for just the right moment.

I mean if I curse everyday and then I curse at you, its not big deal. But if you known me for 10 years and never seen me curse, then I call you something really horrible. Then bam! You really feel it.

Wow, what a pointless thing for him to devote his time to. I hinder my cursing if there is someone who doesn't like curse words around, just out of respect for the other person, however I don't carry the belief that cursing is wrong simply because it is a curse word. Certainly subjects like fucking and how much of a cunt someone is are taboo to say in certain scenarios, but the words themselves aren't bad. I've never been provided with a proper explanation of why cursing wasn't a proper thing to do.

I cuss habitually to express my disdain at things or to set up a joke mechanic. There are, however, some teens who over-use cuss words because it makes them feel powerful. It's pretty obvious when someone fills their sentences with plenty of unnecessary "fucks".

I'm with Alric. I've chosen to not swear as I do find it disrespectful, at least in polite conversation. If I ever did, though, you would know that I'm really upset.

A well-placed swear word can be quite funny, though, depending on the context. It just doesn't need to be overused.

When I was a year in America (I was 17/18) I was cussing all the time.
It was so much fun, you could put swearwords everywhere and it sounded
cool. It's a lot more fun in english.

He started it all in junior high.

I didn't see the video, but this guy seems to be preserving curse words. THink about it: Basically half the words we use are "like, um, uh, etc." People are replacing them with curses.

I don't mind cursing, I do it often enough to not care. It bugs me when they aren't used at the right times. "Holy shit" applies to plane crashed and tornado warnings. Spilt coffee should only get it's proper "dang"

If you stop using certain words just because, others words will take their place. You cannot change language without changing culture/attitude. If you wanna make a club in which people don't use curse words, you should call it "unrealistically positive and ignorant mutual masturbation society of wimps who don't know jack about human nature". Curse words are here to stay.
