      Noob here at gym.

Tell me what to do and for how long. Well...you know, just give me tips. I've got average bulk, which I know isn't enough in this day and age. Joined the gym this Monday, been two days already, each time spending 15mins on cardio, 30mins on upper body and 30mins on lower. Also doing 30 push-ups each day.

30 is my number, it seems.

Space it out more, give your body parts more time to rest. Instead of 30 and 30 every other day, do an hour of upper body on one day, then the next time youre at the gym, do an hour of lower body. Gives youre upper body more time to recover and give yo better results.

      Cool

I hope you're lifting heavy and not using machines.

Haha, machines are for pussies... You need to do way more than 30 push-up a day homie. Try to shoot for at least 100 for the whole day.

Normal push-ups are pretty useless. Unless you're a fat-ass, bodyweight exercises won't cut it. Do inclined diamond push-ups with added weight (wear a backpack full of stuff) until you can do one-handed pushups. Then do inclined one-handed pushups until you can do a handstand on one hand. Then keep working at it until you can do handstand push-ups with a single hand.

Machines aren't for pussies, they can work muscle groups that you normally wouldn't be able to work.

Oh, well please, name a muscle group that you can't train with free weights.

Fucking hell man, can you do that?

I personally love me some push-ups. I do all different kinds; spiderman, diamond, wide grip, clapping, explosive, staggered grip, med ball, inclined, handstand (w/ 2 hands), and dolphin push-ups.

Look at my avatar. Do you think there's anything I CAN'T do?

Yeah, all those variations are good exercises. Much better than regular push-ups, which don't really make you work that hard at all if you're average weight.

Well it depends on how many reps you do. No matter how light you are, you can always just up the reps until you're tired. It's a great way of getting nice toned, vein-y arms.

That's true if you're not concerned about gaining bulk. I think the point of the thread was to get "above average bulk" for which regular push-ups are very inadequate.

You don't need a machine to do squats, lunges, calf raises, and a whole host of other plyometric and strength training exercises..

      This is what i do:

      My Iraq Regiment.
I take Nitric oxide (superpump 250 is the best)

1st day i do triceps, deltoids, chest and 2 mile run
I do these groups becuase a lot of tricep excercises also work out the other 2 muscle groups.

      I usually bench about 165
ill do 4 sets of 10 reps regular and 2 sets of 5 reps close hand
I use the tension cable machine and i do pushups.
I throw in that 2 mile to get cardio up enought that i have blood flowing everwhere and ill usually use some dumbells on my tris too.

2nd day i do Biceps, forearms, neck, and a 2 mile run
With the biceps ill do a lot of resistance based training, ill do negative exercises. Negatives are not about being able to life the weight but being able to hold the weight as long as possible while slowly lowering it and lifting it up fast.

3rd day i do a sprints and core, like a 60/120 but better, ill run as fast as i can on the tredmil for 2 minutes and jog for 2 than run for 2 and ill repeat this cycle 10 or 15 times.

I do core which consists of weighted situps with a medical ball and a number of other things, you can google core exercises and get a whole list, they all work.

4th day ill do my back

I dont work out my legs other than running becuase i dont think it would look good with my build.

I stay in the gym for like an hour and half each day but only 45 minutes is all you need.

Im fit, but i been doing this for the past 3 months of my iraq tour and i have a lot of time.

On my PT test or evaluation of army physical fitness, i score a 295,
      last one i had
82 pushups in 2 minutes (chest to the groud)
      77 Situps in 2 minutes(hands behind head)
      and i ran a 13:20 on my 2 mile

I listen to a lot of metal and harcore when i go to the gym. winds of pluage and old slipknot work well

That's almost exactly my scores for what I did in lacrosse training freshman year. I wish I was still that fit

Do you incorporate any pull-ups into your work-outs? They work wonders for the back muscles. I usually do pyramids up to 20 with a 10 pound dumbbell between my feet.

I dont do pullups that often sometimes when i have a lot of evergy ill do them, like a shit load of energy. sometimes i take too much Nitro

I use to do pyramids with the bench, i'd put 5 10 pound weights on each side and take one off each side after 10 reps than when its just the bar i would add them again 2 by 2
