You lose weight. There is also a 50% chance you will become smugly self-righteous. If this happens you should consult us immediately.

To keep it simple, He would lose weight, as muscle. But it depends how long he stop eating meat for, and how much he used to eat in the first place and also how much carbs and fat he eats as well; the body usually gets its enegy from carbs first, then fat then muscle.

If you stop eating meat, just make sure that you are still getting the essential vitamins and minerals that meat can provide, like iron.

Vitamin/iron supplement pills can help with this.

I haven't eaten meat of any type (including fish etc) since I was 15.

It is a huge myth perpetuated by the multi-billion dollar meat industry that we need Red Meat in order to maintain a healthy body.

The Fact is, there is a direction causal connection between the consumption of red meat and various cancers, blood disease and so on.

Do your research and make up your own mind. I would recommend becoming vegetarian - or, alternatively, do one day a week without meat.

      I certainly feel very healthy.

You do not lose any muscle tissue or even neccessarily weight, when you stop
eating meat. You can gain weight, if you want. I know fat vegans. If you eat
tons of meat and not excercise, you won't be gaining muscle tissue, you'll be
gaining fat. Although it would be easier to lose weight, if you ate healthy.
(My point was that you don't lose muscles, because you don't eat meat,
      but for other reasons)

You have to eat vegetables, fruits and wheats regardless, so if you do that
already, you can just stop eating meat and pretty much not worry about it.
This is actually recommended by a lot of doctors and health experts, if you
do the research, you'll quickly see that there is no need for meat whatsoever.
      Quite the opposite actually.

I haven't eaten any animal products for 2 years, have gained 10kg over the
course of the last 5 months, have been to a doctor 1 month ago to get a
broad blood picture - and I am fully healthy, not a single nutritional value
too high or too low - way healthier than average. (There are some things
you'd have to watch out here, but you didn't ask, so I'm not getting into it)

You don't need meat (or fish, which basically is meat) to maintain a strong healthy body.

What you need are the nutrients in meat, which can also be found sufficiently elsewhere.

These are protein, iron and B vitamins.

I'm a vegetarian and I'm training to be in the British Army, which serves vegetarian meal options, like many other militaries of the world. I would have joined if it didn't, but I don't like eating meat, so this is a bonus for me. Clearly even the British Army, as well as the National Health Service (NHS) accept that this is a viable diet.

      http://www.nhs.uk/Livewell/Vegetaria...althqanda.aspx

The above website is from the NHS, which is the health service provider for the UK. I think it's more bona fide than some random internet opinions from forum people.

So to conclude a vegetarian diet can be as nutritional as a meat based diet, as long as you know what you are doing. It's not rocket science, but you can't just live off carrots and potatoes.

For more info on what sort of diet you should eat as a vegetarian (don't just eat the same but without meat) google it.

That's because your diet was unplanned. You probably don't even know what vegetarian foods have iron in them.

Yes, this is a definite danger. Then again, if you ate meat there is a 50% chance you will have no understanding of nutrition, yet lecture others on it.

Seriously though, don't eat shit, eat properly, don't be a smug cnut, and you won't let the team down.

I actually recently became vegetarian myself... although as many people here know, I was already pretty smug.

You might enjoy this. The guy is a raw vegan (lengthy though, he likes to talk).

At the same time I have a friend who hasn't eaten meat over the course of his life (family Eastern-religious thing, I think). The guy is significantly larger than me, built. Actually, he's the one doing the filming in that gym video I posted in DV favs and shows up a few times, you can see him for yourself.

Meat is a great source for some necessary nutrients, but not the only source. You can stay healthy w/o meat, but you need to watch and plan your diet so that you still get what you need. If you ignore this and simply stop eating meat your health is likely to deteriorate and you may even develop deficiency illnesses.

I've recently cut out red meat and pork from my diet completely. Sometimes I'll have lean meats once a week.

I dropped weight pretty quickly, which was a bad idea, considering I'm already thin enough..But I'm still in the average range, so I'm not too worried. I do feel better than I did before. My skin looks better than it did before, too. I just feel healthier.
