Something I just noticed about my dreams

My dreams are never lucid, I'm always convinced of the reality of whats happening during 99% of it while I'm dreaming. But just last night I had a dream that suddenly turned into a nightmare where some guy was on top of me trying to kill me and someone was trying to pull him off of me. Just as I was sure I was gonna die I remember realizing that it was a dream, but it wasnt some kind of huge revelation, just like a split second not a big deal decision like "Oh ok, yeah this is fake so I can just do whatever I want because this guy cant hurt me." Then the dream continued for a few seconds before I woke up. I never thought of this before, but every single time I have a bad dream this is how it ends. The realization that I'm dreaming part, I mean. But I only get a few seconds of knowing that I'm dreaming before I inevitably wake up. It's like the coming to terms with the fakeness around me forces me to wake up. Does this happen to anyone else?
