      Alternative Journaling Options

First of all, hi again! I haven't been here in like a year or so, so yeah; hello! Anyway, onto my real purpose.

Dreams are like thoughts, right? And thoughts are meant to be private, like, it's not good to have someone snooping about your thoughts unless you feel fine sharing those specific thoughts. I guess this is what led me away from journaling, and then from my attempts to LD at all (Can't LD with dwindling recall). I started realizing, after a small amount of time, that certain people (I bet you can guess who) were reading my DJ while I wasn't by my bed. I mean, granted, I don't think I put anything excessively private inside, but I should be able to, shouldn't I? And, if I can't feel safe putting whatever I want in my DJ, how can I keep a DJ at all? What I'm really wondering if there is another way I can record my dreams securely.

Initially, I considered just using my iTouch (not like I use it much for other purposes anymore ), but then I wondered if the bright screen would cause me to forget a dream or if it was a good idea to type on the tiny digital keyboard. Do any of you have a similar problem? If so, how do you overcome it?

If you have an iPhone I would suggest getting the app called Dream Journal. That is what I use when i wake up during the night and want to make an entry and go back to sleep, I don't feel like getting up and turning the lights on to write in my real journal. Its made with colors that are soothing and wont bother someone who just woke up. I'm actually starting to use it more and more, like even when I really wake up and get out of bed in the morning. Other than that all I can suggest is find a good hiding spot, shouldn't be too hard. Just hide it somewhere god and when you go to bed get it out and putit next to your bed so you can wake up and write. As soon as you're done writing in the morning put it back in it's hiding place before leaving the house. And if the person reading it is particularly snoopy you don't even really need to keep it hidden in your room, anywhere works.

I keep a digital DJ on my laptop. Audio, most of the time, but sometimes also text.

The good think about audio is that I don't have to look at the screen, except for starting the recording. I use the laptop for recording. Using a phone or another small recording device if you have one would probably be even better. You can transfer the recordings to your computer later that day, or every week or so.

As for privacy, I have my DJ encrypted, so it's virtually impossible for someone to read it without knowing the passphrase.

      Laptop - Not plausible.

I am, however, checking out the app store (if my stupid iTouch would actually open it up >.<) and I'll figure out more about that.

EDIT: I actually found a free notetaking app. It's called SimpleNote and if you set up an account you can stream notes to an online database too. So I can copy and paste the dreams that I do want to share right from my computer. It also has tags and each note has more than enough room to type a dream. I think I'll test it out tonight

I was always concerned about this myself. I'm always hesitant to right down sex dreams because I don't want my mom seeing it, lol. If you have a lack of privacy you might not want to leave the journal in plain sight. Put it under your mattress/blanket. That way you can get to it easily but no one else will stumble on it.
