Hey guys,
I'm new to the forums here, but needed somewhere to discuss with others this type of odd occurence that I've been having during waking moments for the past ten months or so.
I've been having nightmarish type illusions just before I wake up, that from what I can find, appear to be similar to hypnopompic nightmares and possibly even sleep paralysis.
I'll explain the "dreams" to you, and hopefully someone will be able to confirm what's happening.
It all started about ten months ago. One morning I awoke from sleep, but it was still a drowsy half-awake, half-asleep type awakening. Sort of like "partially-awake alertness," where you are still lying in the bed and can only see very few things, or are barely aware of your surroundings.
The first time, I can remember seeing myself laying in the bed, and it was still first-person---all things seen were from my perspective--but I always felt as though my bedroom closet door was closing and opening by itself, and someone or something was peeking through looking at me. These "dreams" were scary, and mild fear accompanied them.
These ocurrences continued off and on, I'd say happening once every two months----progressively they got worse, and new things would happen.
The worst one so far came to me yesterday afternoon as I took a nap on a sofa in a building outside my grandmother's house. I remember going to sleep on the sofa, and partially awakening, feeling as though some sort of presence was right behind me. I would envision myself moving forward to get a look back to see what was staring at me, but in reality, I couldn't have been moving. These "hauntings" this time was accompanied by an intense fear, and my breathing felt as though it was becoming erratic. I shuddered and attempted to scream, but no sound would come out. Eventually, I also felt a straining in my ears and could hear a noise similar to a car horn, but not quite the same. The sound only happened once and then went away.
I distinctly remember (at least I think I did--unless it was in my "dream) sticking my finger in my mouth in an attempt to open my mouth for sound to come out. I eventually awakened myself when I could hear myself making audible moaning noises.
I'm not sure what to think of this---if it is a sleep problem, or just a recurring hypnopompic nightmare. Is it dangerous, or something I might be able to manipulate and benefit from?
Answers and comments would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Aaron
