      Does anyone get these?

Often when I enter the early sleep I will have really short dreams where I'm doing something, and as a result move my body as it is not yet paralyzed. Most recently I had a short dream in which I stumbled over something, and moved my leg rapidly as a result in my bed, which caused me to awaken obviously.

This happens to me sometimes, I think I'm playing softball or something and I attempt to field the ball while in bed...

It's called a hypnic jerk and it's a pretty common thing when going from wakefulness to sleep. That link is to the Wikipedia article.

Evidently my wife gets this too - either that, or she just like's kicking me while pretending to be asleep.

I get these to. Usually I'm not yet asleep but dreaming/thinking and I suddenly dream/think about riding a bike and my leg moves. It's dead weird even though it's apparantly normal.
