Trying to swim and not reaching surface.

In my dream last night, I was swimming in a pond. I occasionally went underwater and back up. At one point, I was swimming upward and never reached the surface. I kept swimming and was running out of air. I didn't understand why the surface wasn't there so I opened my eyes. Turns out I opened my real life eyes and woke myself up. I never have nightmares and I thought this was pretty scary. I'm just wondering why I would open my real-life eyes when I tried to open my dream eyes.

I often find that fear will wake me from a dream. In the type of dream work I do being able to be in the water or "breathe the water" is considered a good thing. Regards, Bill
