      Strange Darkness?

I have noticed from a recent dream which made me wonder about other dreams that whenever it becomes dark in my dream i begin to turn weak and unable to stand on my two feet. Its strange because the darkness is really strong and powerful.

I used to have it a lot in dreams when i was younger, for example, there was this one where i was walking home from school and the darkness was so thick that i literally could not see, it was like a thick dark fog. I was struggling to get to my house and i was collapsing slowly as i felt dizzy being stood up. It seems to be very common in my dreams and i'm wondering what it could be. All i can solidly say is that it forces me down and usually stops me from reaching my destination or goal. I always feel more tired and slowed down, if i try and stand my legs feel unable to stay stable and i usually get a white noise type dizziness about my line of sight.

Any ideas on what this could mean and how i could neutralize it? Its become a real annoyance in dreams, i just thought it would be good to get some outside input on it, maybe even similar experiences to relate to.

Does this happen in both real life and dreams?

I have never had it truly in real life, however the only time it comes close to this feeling in real life is when i am truly scared or afraid. This big guy once cam after me after school and tried to attack me, he pushed me around and i got the adrenaline rush, and i became very light-headed and dizzy and felt weak. Though i felt weak it was not on scale that was present in my dreams.

But lets just say that in the dreams it is more severe, not sure what the cause of it is, it could be fear. But i'm not entirely sure.

I was going to suggest that it may be that you're in the process of waking up and feeling a bit of the effects of sleep paralysis. I've had dream "blackness" before and I noticed it's usually around the time just before becoming lucid, or as I'm losing lucidity going towards an awakening.

Since lucidity is the mind becoming aware, or conscious, consciousness is closer to the material world (waking life) than in dreams. Therefore, you are at a point very close to waking up. If you were to completely wake up, you'd be in SP.

BUT, you mention feeling something similar in waking life, like under stress or threat. This is also normal (I think), as people are known to faint under certain levels of stress.

I've had that "void" quite a few times in lucids, usually at the end, but sometimes in the middle.

It's kind of annoying when you'd rather be doing other things, but one thing you can do is just ask a question. A lot of times voices will answer and you can have a conversaton. Not as much fun as having a real dream, but it's better than nothing. I've talked to three DC's at one time like that.
